Even if collective nouns refer to several individuals, do not confuse them
with plural nouns. Plural nouns refer to more than one of a particular noun
and are denoted by adding an “s” to the end of a word. A collective noun is a
word used in place for several individual persons, animals, or things.
Collective nouns can be used in both singular and plural forms.
Examples:
A band of musicians passed through the street playing a sweet melody.
