INTERNSHIP WEEKLY REPORT
Acknowledgement
The internship experience I got with Mr. J.N. Maurya Sir (CSC – I), was a great opportunity for me to
learn and grow professionally. As a result, I consider myself really fortunate to have been given the
opportunity to be a part of it. I'm also glad for the opportunity to work with the Sir J.N Maurya who
guided me during my internship.
Introduction
Mr. J.N Maurya sir is the Chief Standing Counsel I of Allahabad High Court, has been my mentor. I
worked for him for a total of 270 hours. I am unable to discuss the cases I am working on since I have
signed a confidentiality agreement.
It's been an exciting first week for me. I'm still trying to figure out where everything is and what my
responsibilities will be. I read over the cases and took thorough notes on them went to the court hearings
to learn the working procedure of High Court throughout my first week of internship. Sir used to give
to me work such as writing arguments, finding loop holes, how a affidavit is filed ad also I went to the
Chief Justice Court with sir for the hearing of cases. In many ways, the internship's first week was
overwhelming; all I need to do now is work hard, ask questions whenever I can, and take in the
experience.
Sir has provided me legal research work on a few major cases on the second week of the internship
and gave me the highlights of the legal research report. After the case, I was given the task of
3
summarising, and I also had the opportunity to look at the previous case files which sir dealt with,
where I learned a few things about how to tackle a case. The second week marked the start of my
learning.
For the third week, I'll be summarising and drafting once more. Sir has given me the case files for
drafting of arguments and was instructed on the finer points of each. I went to the court after that with
sir where I learned the display procedure of the cases. I have been given the cases which sir was in-
charged for, discovered the extent to which plain English is used in Indian courts. I also learned about
notices and how to construct them, and my understanding of various aspects of the law grew.
The rest of my responsibilities remained the same; I was expected to type certain documents provided
by the firm, as well as photocopy documents relating to cases. At the most basic level, I believe that
all of these duties are critical in providing me with a well-rounded approach to practising law; I
believe that one should be conversant with every part of it.
I didn't get much work in the final week of my internship. The firm assigned me research work on the
cases, and my job was to send them the most appropriate legislation for the situation of the cases, along
with rationale. The daily court duties remained the same for me. I have to prepare a file for the cases in
hand with the arguments date, the court number and case number. Rest remained the same. It was a
great experience for me. I gained a lot of knowledge about a lot of things which is essential for a lawyer
at every step in the profession. With this internship opportunity, I learned something new. It was really
re-assuring experience. If Sir will provide me the opportunity I will look forward to work as an intern
under Mr J.N. Maurya sir again.
