How to configure TSM NDMP Backups over SAN from NetApp filers High level steps to configure NDMP

based backups on TSM server are listed below. 1. Enable following ndmpd options on NetApp filers Filer*> options ndmpd.enable on Filer*> options ndmpd ndmpd.access ndmpd.authtype all plaintext,challenge off

ndmpd.connectlog.enabled ndmpd.enable on

ndmpd.ignore_ctime.enabled off ndmpd.offset_map.enable ndmpd.password_length on 16

ndmpd.preferred_interface disable (value might be overwritten in takeover) ndmpd.tcpnodelay.enable off

2. Create a backup user on the filer Filer*> useradmin user add bkpuser -g Administrators New password:XXXXXXXX Retype new password: XXXXXXXX 3. Obtain the encrypted password of the above user from the filer Filer*> ndmpd password bkpuser password Fhg5NSiDIi3E2yAk 4. Make sure that tape drives and the filer are properly zoned; post zoning run following commands on the filer to make sure that the tape drives are visible to the filer. Filer*> sysconfig t Filer*> storage show tape

5. Register NDMP node, define datamover and relevant paths on TSM server as follows register node NDMPnode nodepassword domain=NDMPDOM type=nas define datam NDMPnode t=nas hla=IPaddress user=bkpuser password= encrypted password dataformat=netappdump lladdress=10000 define path NDMPnode DRVXX srctype=datam desttype=drive library=Libraryname device=rst0a 6. Finally run a sample volume backup on TSM server to verify NDMP configuration as follows backup node NDMPnode /vol/vol1 mode=full toc=yes.
