A Stabilizing Agents

Asphalt for foaming shall be petroleum asphalt cement, penetration

A1 grade 60-70, conforming to Saudi Aramco (Ras Tanura Refinery)

Product Specification A-970.

Cement for stabilization shall be Ordinary Portland Cement (Type I) or


Sulfate Resistant Cement (Type V), conforming to ASTM C-150. SAES-Q-006

Note: Mill certificate indicating conformance to ASTM C-150 and categorized as Sec. 5.3.1.1
Type V is sufficient.

Hydrated lime for stabilization shall be slaked road lime. Test report

A3 from a S. ARAMCO approved independent testing lab indicating that the

The mix design complying with "Foamed Asphalt Mixes – Mix Design

Aramco Representative for approval for each different type of material
that is to be stabilized with foamed asphalt.

B Subbase Materials to be Stabilized

Aggregate Materials shall be sampled in accordance with ASTM D75 by

Third Party Agency's Quality Personnel assigned to the Work must be


technically competent to perform their duties and shall have a Schedule "Q"

Tests for Saudi Aramco acceptance shall be performed by a Saudi SAES-Q-006

All materials with a PI (Plasticity Index) in excess of 16 shall be pre-


treated with hydrated lime at a nominal application rate of 3% (by
weight); SAES-Q-006

For 10 < PI < 16 hydrated lime shall be added at 1.5% by weight; Sec. 5.3.1.2
Cement shall be added to all other materials at a nominal application rate
of 1% (by mass).

Non-plastic fine material shall be added to increase the percentage SAES-Q-006

passing the 0.075mm sieve to achieve a minimum of 5%. Sec. 5.3.1.2
