Dqs151 - Measurement of Construction Works Ii: Timber Pitched Roof

The document discusses the measurement of various components of a timber pitched roof, including the roof structure, covering, boarding, and rainwater goods. The roof structure includes wall plates, rafters, hip/valley rafters, and ridgeboards. Rafters are measured in meters based on their length and center-to-center spacing. Hip and valley rafter lengths are calculated using trigonometry. Roof coverings such as tiles are measured in square meters based on the roof dimensions and batten spacing. Fascia boards are measured in meters to match the roof length and overhang distances. Gutters are also measured based on roof lengths and overhangs.

DQS151 – MEASUREMENT OF CONSTRUCTION

WORKS II
TIMBER PITCHED ROOF
INTRODUCTION

◼ Can be divided into 4 parts:

◼ Roof structure
◼ Roof covering
◼ Boarding
◼ Rainwater goods
◼ Measured in section M: Woodwork in SMM2
◼ Clause M.1.1: Detail specification including type, quality, and treatment
must be stated
◼ To prevent misunderstanding to the contractor
INTRODUCTION
◼ Clause M.1.2: All sizes shown in drawing shall be deemed nominal
unless stated as finished sizes.
◼ Clause M.1.3: If no jointing or construction is decribed, it is under
discretion of the contractor.
◼ Clause M.1.4: Item shall be deemed to be fixed by nails, other
methods of fixing must be described
◼ Clause M.1.6: if the length required is exceeding 5.00 meter, is
shall be described with 600mm stages,
◼ Clause M.4.2: No addition shall be made for joints or laps and no
deduction for voids not exceeding 0.50m2.

WALL PLATE

◼ Measured in meter
◼ Located on top of wall
◼ The length is the same length as the wall
◼ Not located in gable end

RAFTER

◼ Measured in meter
◼ Number of rafter is based on center to center of rafter
Length from1st rafter to last rafter +1 x2

RIDGEBOARD

◼ Measure in meter
◼ Can be measured using scale ruler if the drawing is
scaled accurately
◼ If not, can be estimated by deduction of half span from
the total roof length
WROUGHT SURFACES

◼ To wrought expose rafters and ceiling joist at eaves

◼ If the area has a ceiling, then wrought surfaces is not

ROOF COVERING

◼ Roof covering can be different type of materials such as:

◼ Clay roof tile
◼ Concrete roof tile
◼ Other items includes
◼ Battens
◼ Building/sisalation/insulation
paper including straining wires
◼ Rockwool insulation (if any)
Roof covering is measured in m2

ROOF COVERINGS

◼ Hip tiles = same length as hip rafter

◼ Verge tiles = same length as rafter + proj over gutter
◼ Ridge tiles = same length as ridgeboard
◼ Fair ends = no. of hip rafter
◼ Apex = no. of intersection on roof covering
◼ Flashing = same length as valley rafter
