1.WHAT IS BOOTING?

--THE PROCESS OF LOADING the OPERATING SYSTEM FILES FROM the secondary storage
media TO RAM IS CALLED AS BOOTING
--DESKTOP INDICATES BOOTING IS COMPLETE AND COMPUTER IS READY FOR use

2.WHAT IS OS INSTALLATION?
--LOADING OS INTO HARD DISK FROM ANY EXTERNAL MEDIA(CD/DVD/PEN DRIVE/WDS)IS CALLED
AS OS INSTALLATION

3.TYPES OF OS INSTALLATIONS?
--THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF OS INSTALLATIONS
i)CLEAN INSTALLATION
ii)UPGRADE INSTALLATION
iii)DUAL BOOT OR MULTIBOOT INSTALATION

i)CLEAN INSTALLATION
--we can define the clean installation in two ways
i)WIPING OUT AN EXISTING OS ON EXISTING PARTITION AND THEN INSTALL OS NEWLY
ii)INSTALLING WINDOWS OS ON A BRAND NEW PARTITION of a brand new hard disk

ADVANTAGES OF CLEAN INSTALLATION:-----


a)start fresh from scratch
b)removes unwanted software
c)install only those applications which are required
d)start with a clean windows registry which reduces the chance of errors

ii)UPGRADE INSTALLATION
--existing OS is overwritten by new OS
--UPGRADE INSTALLATION MAINTAIN ALL PREVIOUS APPLICATIONS,SETTINGS AND FILES AS IT
IS
--older version is installed first and the the newer version

iii)DUAL BOOT OR MULTIBOOT INSTALATION


--existing more than one operating system at a time in a hard disk in different
partitions is called as multiboot installation
--older version is installed first and the the newer version

BY DEFAULT COMPUTER WILL BOOT WITH THE LATEST OPERATING

4. HOW TO KNOW HOW MANY OPERATING SYSTEMS ARE PRESENT IN A HARD DISK
==windows+r--msconfig

5.HOW TO UPGRADE WINDOWS 7 TO WINDOWS 10?


--power on the computer--add win10 cd/dvd in the cd/dvd drive--go to this pc--
double click the cd/dvd--next--enter the product key of win 10--next--accept the
license--install

6.WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY DOWNGRADING OF OS?


--opposite of upgrade is called as downgrade of os
--downgrade means reverting back to the older version of operating system

7.WHAT IS THE NEED OF DOWNGRADING A OS?


--some applications may not run in the upgraded version thats why downgrade of OS
is required

7.HOW TO DOWNGRADE WINDOWS 10 INTO WINDOWS 7?


--start--settings--update and security--recovery--go back to win 7--get started
8.HOW TO PERFORM DUAL BOOTING?
i)increase the space in hard disk as we need to keep more than one OS
--edit virtual machine settings--select hard disk--expand--give the required size--
expand--ok--ok

ii)we need to create a new partition to install the 2nd OS


--windows+R--diskmgmt.msc--select the unallocated space--right click--new simple
volume--next--next--next--finish

iii)select the media from where computer will take OS


--right click on vm--settings--select cd/dvd--browse for windows 10 iso image--and
select the windows 10 iso image

iv)power off the computer and again power on to firmware--go to the boot menu--
select cd-ROM drive through the up arrow or down arrow keys--bring the cd-ROM drive
option on the top by using plus sign(+)--press F10 to save and exit from firmware--
and continuously press the enter button to install the OS from cd/dvd drive

v)now follow the steps to install the os

9.WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY RESETING OF OS?


--RESET/RECOVERY/REINSTALL/REFRESH option gives us the facility to return win10
computer to its original state without loosing photos,personal files,personal
settings
--"Reset your pc" option quickly restore the windows to its factory default
configuration faster than reinstalling windows

10.HOW TO RESET A WINDOWS 10 SYSTEM?


--start--settings--update and security--recovery--reset pc--get started--follow the
steps

PRACTICALS
i)clean installation
ii)upgrade installation
iii)dual boot installation
iv)downgrade installation
v)RESET A WINDOWS 10 SYSTEM?

i)clean installation
a)create a virtual machine
b)load operating system in the cd/dvd drive
c)go to bios and change boot priority
d)install OS
