DC Adjustment Calculator

DROUGHT CODE ADJUSTMENT CALCULATOR

To adjust spring drought codes, 4 values or estimations are required.

The first, is the fall drought code, taken October 31 or at the time of freeze up.
The second is the overwinter moisture, in mm, that occurred between the time
of the last calculated or estimated drought code and the spring start up date
of the station.
The third value, to be estimated, is the carryover fraction of fall moisture. It can
be thought of as the level of drying of the moisture that was in the fuel at the time
of the last calculated or estimated drought code.
The fourth value, again to be estimated, is the effectiveness of the overwinter
moisture. If most of the overwinter moisture will affect the fuels, this value will
be high. If drainage or high sublimation can be seen to take moisture away from
the fuel, it will be low.

Fall Drought Code 650 157.5293

Overwinter Moisture (mm) 240 630.3293

Carryover fraction of fall moisture 1

Enter 1.0 if good carryover expected
Enter 0.75 if some drying before freeze up
Enter 0.5 if good drying before freeze up

Overwinter precip effectiveness fraction 0.5

Enter 0.9 if most moisture will melt in, wet sites
Enter 0.75 if frost late or some drainage on site
Enter 0.5 if frost early, good drainage, lots of sublimation

Adjusted Spring Drought Code 95

If this number is less than 15, use the spring startup DC value of 15.
If this number is more than 15, use it as the spring startup DC value.
