Hand ball (Basic skills)
• Throwing high and low :-
Throwing is very important to pass
the ball which is done in two ways-
1) High:
Player raise the hands above the
head and throw it in a way that he/
she is able to hold it properly.
2) Low :
To pass low, a player needs to
bend and throw the ball at a level
below the chest or closer to waist.
Catching the ball.
•If a player does not catch the
ball or ft receive he given to
him, then all the work done by
his team-mate would go
waste
•To catch the ball while on the
move or in a standing position,
stretch both the arm forwards
in the direction of the
trajectory or path of the ball.
The fingers must be slightly
spread and thumbs should
touch each other. Thus it
The 7-meter throw
1)A 7-meter throw is awarded if a
Player prevents or obstructs the
opponent from scoring a goal or
2) When his own team-mate
enters his own goal area to defend
3) The goalkeeper himself leaves
his own goal area.
4) While taking a7-meter throw a
player of the attacking team
stands behind the line.
* The throw has to be taken only
after the umpire blows the whistle.
Bounce pass:
When it is not possible to give a
pass to a team-mate because an
opponent is close by, the bounce
pass is used. Many time a player h
has to confront a tall, long-armed
opponent. In such instances the
bounce-pass becomes an
effective weapons.
While passing the ball toa team-
mate bounce the ball in such a
way that it comes at a catchable
height to him.
Blocking:
It is technique used to prevent an
opponent from passing the ball to a
team-mate or shooting at goal.
Blocking can be done in the
following three ways:
1)From the front
2) From the side
3) With the back
But in all cases methods like
holding, pushing, elbowing etc. are
prohibited.
Important rules:-
1) The team winning the toss the option of the throw-off or select the
court.
2) A team consist of 14 players of either team must on the court when the
game starts.
3) A team can substitute players any number of times. A substitute can
not enter the field unless the player he is substituting comes off the field.
4) At least five players of either team must be on the court when the
game starts.
5) A match is played over a duration of 60 minutes with halves of 30
minutes each. The interval in between is 10 minutes. For youth team the
duration is 25-25 and for sun-junior it is 20-20
6) A team scoring more goals in the match is the winner. If the
match ends in a draw overtime (extra time) of 5-5 minutes is given
with a breakoff one minute. In case a result is not achieved another
10 minutes (5-5) overtime is given. If after the second overtime the
team are tried, the match is decided via the tie-break. Each team is
given 5-5 throws from the 7-meter line the tie-break.

7) The goalkeeper shall not leave the goal area with the ball under
his control or re-enter the goal-area while having possession of the
ball. The goalkeeper may leave or re-enter the goal area without the
ball. Once the goalkeeper leaves the area he is treated as another
court player.The goalkeeper while defending his goal against a
penalty throw can advance up to the 4 mt. restraining line.
8)Throw-off : It is taken to start the game. The team taking it has
to play the ball within 3 seconds after the referee whistles to
indicate start of play. At the time of throw-off the team have to be
in their respective halves on the field. The opponents shall stay 3
meters away from the player taking the throw-off.

9)It is awarded when the ball passes over the sidelines and the
outer goal lines. It is taken from the point where the ball passed
or crossed over the sideline goal line. It is awarded to the team
opposite to the one that last played the ball.
10) A player is allowed to: i) hold the ball for a period not more
than 3 second ii) take a maximum of 3 steps with the ball in hand
iii) use the arms and hands to take possession of the ball. Iv) use
upper body to obstruct an opponent even when he is not in
possession of the ball.

11)A player is not allowed to : i) touch the ball more than once,
unless it has touched the ground, another player o r the goal posts.
ii) touch the ball with the part of the leg below the knee. iii) hold
or hit the opponent. Distract the opponent.
