Discussion Forum Unit3 PDF

The document discusses Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences and assessing students' intelligences to better match teaching methods. It recommends determining one's own and students' top intelligences by taking an MI assessment. A teacher then shares their MI assessment results, agreeing most with logical/mathematical and verbal/linguistic intelligences but expecting visual/spatial to be highest. They plan to apply the MI assessments to better understand students and teaching styles.

There are eight/nine different types of intelligence (Gardner, 1978), and many of us

teach the way we learn but now we must begin to adjust our teaching methods to match
our learners' strengths. But how do you know which intelligence our learners use? No
one uses just one type of intelligence; we all use several in our daily lives. Some are
stronger than others for each person. Thus it's helpful to determine our own top
intelligences and that of our learners’ and tailor our methods to best meet our learners’
particular combination of strengths. Find out in which way you are smart by taking the
MI assessment and then analyzing the results.

After completing the MI assessment, share your results and how you agree or disagree
with them. Then reply to three peers’ postings comparing and contrasting the results.

First let me just say how much I agree with the discussion post; we should all determine our
student’s , and ourselves, multiple intelligences to help us better our teaching and learning
methods. As a support teacher, and after this week’s material I plan on applying these tests on
my students to better determine my teaching styles.

My results are:

1- Logical/Mathematical (Score of 88)

“You appreciate abstract relationships. You use numbers effectively. Scientists, mathematicians and
philosophers have this intelligence” (Multiple intelligences, 2021).
I somewhat agree with this result, being that I am a logical person and I am good with numbers.
However, I expected my number one intelligence was visual/spatial, because I’m really good with
images, graphs and I always use pictures to learn, for example : I cannot memorize tasks or a
grocery list without writing it.

2- Verbal/Linguistic (Score of 84)

“You make sense of the world through language. You use words effectively when you are speaking
and writing. Writers and editors have this intelligence” (Multiple intelligences, 2021).
I agree with this, because I studied linguistics and I’ve always been told how good I am with words, I
also always loved writing too.

3- Intrapersonal (Score of 81)

“You're able to distinguish among your own feelings, build accurate mental models of yourself and
draw on these models to make decisions about your life. People with strength in this intelligence are
found in all walks of life” (Multiple intelligences, 2021).
I cannot agree more with this statement, I study myself really well, I always question and analyze
my feelings too. Meaning that I always dig deep into myself to know how to react to life events better.
