two nations.

2.5 mm hammered copper were used, weighing 80
tons.

made by the famous engineer Gustave Eiffel.
The stone from which the pedestal is built comes
from a small village in France, Ruoms.
The stone was chosen because it is slightly
corrosive to the action of salt water.

The Statue of Liberty in Paris is a replica of the
statue of the same name in New York, donated to
the Americans by France.
One of the replicas, which is 11.50 m high, is
located at the downstream end of the Île des
Cygnes on the Seine, at the Grenelle bridge.
The statue was donated to the city of Paris by the
French community settled in the USA to
commemorate the centenary of the French
Revolution.
SLIDE 9
The statue in France was inaugurated in 1885, as a
plaster model.
The cast version was completed in 1889.
At the inauguration of the statue, Bartholdi
expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that the
statue, facing east, is turning its back on America.
In 1937, on the occasion of the Universal
Exposition, the statue was turned to the west, as a
satisfaction for Bartholdi.
In 1990, the statue was restored and covered with
a bronze patina.
