2.0 HIRING TRENDS
2.1 RECRUITMENT CRITERIA
One of the important hiring trends is about the criteria in recruitment which mean the skills and
the knowledge that is needed by a person to be eligible to work with the selected company.
TCS is one of India's best recruiters in the IT sector, so prospective employees should be aware
of the company's hiring practises. As a TCS group it is a global company with a lot of
departments, so it always welcomes candidates from different perspectives for multiple
positions.
For the basic eligibility criteria announced by TCS group, the candidates should at least have
a full-time qualification and have a minimum score of 50% in their academics and better have
the knowledge relevant with IT experience. For the student who has passed out from all year
is still eligible to be applied for work in TCS Group but the suggestion is 3 years passing out
from the current year. However, candidates who have participated in the selection process in
the TCS group within 3 months, are not allowed to participate again (CyberTechz, 2020).
For the soft skills that needed to be eligible as a worker in TCS Group, the discussion is being
made through our event. As our speaker Yasmin who are one of the workers in Tata
Consultancy Services company, she mentioned in our interview session that the candidates
must have detailed knowledge of the system, which mean they should be familiar with the
related software and hardware which also mean that they should always be aware of the latest
trends in IT and software. This is because TCS group is an IT services company who will
always keep on track to follow the new trends of the global technology. Not only that, but they
must also have a strong characteristic and spirit for good and sound customer service. As Tata
group is a consultancy service company, they are always kept in touch with their clients, so
good communication with the customer is important to provide high quality of customer
services. He or she should be able to work with people and must have strong communication
skills. The workers must be able to establish a good working rapport with the clients quickly
and be willing to work at odd hours at times for the urgent and packed work. Lastly, it is
important for the worker to be patient, always having a logical mind and always prepared to
face new challenges and learn new things continuously.

2.2 INTERVIEW PROCESS
The first interview process is to view the resume by the interviewer. The resume needs to be
different from others to capture the eye of the interviewer. The applicants should publish self-
made applications such as hackathon to add value to the resume. Then, the applicants will be
given a technical assessment to test their technical skills. Face-to-face interviews will be
conducted after the technical assessment. The final process in the interview usually is a job
offer based on a background check and reference if the company wants to hire the applicant.
Lastly, the offer is usually in the form of a typed letter but in some cases the offer is sent in an
email.
There are several types of interviews that will be held to recruit the applicants during the
interview process. First of all, phone interviews are used by employers to identify and recruit
job applicants. It is often used to reduce the number of applicants invited for the interviews.
Interview via phone, Zoom or video may be the way in which the applicants are hired. Next,
face-to-face interview is when an interviewer meets one applicant in the room. It is much more
effective than any format of interview to allow interviewers to get close to each applicant while
keeping an eye on their body language. Moreover, panel interview is the same as face-to-face
interview but there are two or more interviewers in the room. During the interview, each
interviewer will examine different characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses of the applicant
to make a fairer assessment together. The panel interview is normally held as the final step in
the interview process rather than an individual interview. There are several applicants in the
group interview in a room. During group interviews, all of the applicants will be asked by a
group discussion to interact with each other. Therefore, the applicants might be given a task as
a team to ensure that they speak up and express their opinion.

2.4 ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOUR
The organizational behaviour is an important point to look at when finding a company. The
organizational behaviour can also be known as organization culture. The culture of TCS is the
same as most of the TATA Group Companies. The TCS culture is considered as highly ethical.
One of the most striking features why TCS culture is highly ethical is that the employees are
referred to as associates rather than employees. The reason for the TCS company doing this is
to reflect the pride the company wants to experience in being ‘associated’ with the concerned
individuals and holds them as important and superior as the company itself. This can motivate
all the employees to feel doing work for themselves not only for the company. This is also the
main reason why TCS can become so successful and business is getting bigger. Because the
employees will consider themselves as a member of a big family. Besides this, the TCS
company also threatens employees very well. For example, TCS provides employees the
opportunity to learn, grow prospects, timely work review, assessments, various bonuses, and
leaves. Working in TCS will also not facing any problem related to different treatment, class
discrimination. This is because the boundary of management and associate is very low and the
management is easily approachable. The level of respect for every single employee is very high
including intern, cleaning staff, guard. TCS also maintains high to low management and
associates. TCS's work culture is divided into two aspects: an organizational work culture that
follows the ethics and beliefs of the Tata Group, a good learning atmosphere, and a healthy
workplace. The other is the project-specific work culture. Because there are different customers,
the project culture will change according to the needs of customers and work. But the overall
culture is full of choices for learning and growth.

3.0 OUTCOME OF PROJECT
3.1 OUTCOME 1 – EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS
This interview highlights the importance of skills needed in order to gain employment. A
combination of soft and technical skills can be detrimental in a job search. Soft skills such as
interview skills, communication skills, honesty are highly valued in the employer’s
perspectives. Candidates are often subject to technical interview rounds, in which their
technical skills that are needed for the position is evaluated. In order to effectively pass this
test, self-learning and research are recommended. This is especially important because
universities do not always teach the skills required in the actual industry. Before applying for
a job, the interviewee recommends us to study the job descriptions and do a self-research based
on the technical skills needed in the job. It will be beneficial if the employer notices that we
show our passion in the subject area/career path, with the right mindset and traits to continue
growing and having a positive impact to the company.
From the interview we also gain tips and tricks on how to gain advantage during our interview
session when we apply for internship. we are given an example question for interview which
gives us a vision of what will we face during out interview. from the talk we know that our CV
is our identity and we should be honest with our CV. The interviewee also told us an example
of an interview for internship where there will be 3 round of question. The first is the HR round
where the interviewer will ask us about our personal information, experience, reasoning and
expectation. the second round is conducted to test our communication skill by letting us talk
about a topic given by interviewers in a specific duration while the third round is conducted to
test our knowledge, logical thinking and teamwork skills. As stated by Balderrama (Balderrama,
n.d.), a simple bachelor degree isn’t enough in job applying, it’s all matter in the presentation.

4.0 CRITICAL ANALYSIS
4.1 CRITICAL ANALYSIS 1 – AI AND MACHINE LEARNING
Nowadays, the world is increasingly driven by data. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine
Learning are the newest technology trends that are being adopted by companies worldwide.
According to Nikita Duggal (2017), the AI market is estimated to grow to a $190 billion
industry by 2025. The use of AI and analytics in business processes have resulted in better
decision making and in the effective detection of customers' changing patterns by analyzing
huge amounts of data. This information can be further utilized towards more effective
marketing strategies (CareersinAnalytics.com, 2020). Moreover, data analytics helps
businesses in detecting problems forecasting their impact to avoid risks of losses. According
to a survey conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), many
respondents stated that the organizations will recruit more people with data analytics
knowledge and skills by 2021. Moreover, 54% of companies will require more people with
data analysis skills in the HR department (Wright, 2016). It is expected that, by 2025, the most
demanding jobs would include data scientists, data analysts and programmers. As mentioned
by the business process lead of Tata Consultancy Services during the interview event,
candidates should be aware of the latest trends and software in IT as employers look for these
skills when hiring them.
8
4.2 CRITICAL ANALYSIS 2 – CRITICAL THINKING
Organization are selecting Critical Thinkers: In present many organizations are searching for
high critical thinking workers to generate new ideas at work. This is very important so that the
company can help resolve the customers issues or to solve problems yet to come. Based on an
Indian job blog that said that organization have seen a growing trend of competency based
interviews. The employers do not put the candidates through a technical test, but they put in
more time asking candidates who are searching for jobs how they solved difficult situations at
work and what they have learned from such experience. This tell us that organizations want us
to more creatively when we workers are facing difficult situation. . This is one of the main
reason why most of the organizations are currently looking for people who have high levels of
empathy and strong people management and leadership skills. People who are critical thinkers,
creative and innovative in the way they work, and able to have open talks with others, will also
be highly sought-after to hire as their workers. It is also important for organizations to not lose
sight of other equally important talent attraction factors that can help foster a positive employee
experience such as work-life initiative, non-rigid-work arrangements and career growth
chances (Ahmed, 2019).

5.0 CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the event that we held has ended successfully and it took around 30 minutes for
our speaker’s whole talk. The process of organizing this event is smooth as we thought. Our
team has faced some challenges which include inviting the speaker to attend and the roles
distribution. The most difficult part of organizing this event is to invite the speaker to attend
the event. Although we have mailed some companies, we finally managed to get a reply from
a company called Tata Consultancy Services Group (TCS). Our team has learnt a lot of valuable
skills and lessons during organizing this event as this is the first time to organize an event for
our team. Our team benefited from the talk.
