Public Speaking Final Self Reflection

Organization
I think my overall organization got better with each speech I did. It started with me using sheet
paper on a book I like, with one to two rounds of practice. By the last speech, I was practicing 15
times and going off of cue cards. My structure became better with each speech I did, making my
overall speeches better.
Appeals
I feel like my use of Pathos, Ethos, and Logos were present even in my first speech. I use a lot of
Pathos in all of them, and I get more Ethos and Logos as the speeches continued. I’d say my use
of evidence got way better by the informational speech. With that and my persuasive speech, I
felt I really got better at implementing my cited sources.
Delivery and Visual Aids
My overall delivery was pretty good in most areas. My biggest thing was making sure to not get
nervous and slow down when I was speaking. I got much better at this by my persuasive speech.
As for visual aids, my demonstration speech went over well. My PowerPoint style got improved
too. I got a lot of great information on how to not clutter and make a clear and concise
PowerPoint for a speech.
Audience Assessment and Adaptation
Assessing my audience was always key in all of my speeches. Making sure the audience had a
point of relatability or to make the topic interesting to them. This was something I got better at
with each speech, and adapting to that with the experience I got from each one was also very
important. By the persuasive speech, I feel like I really got a grasp on how to assess my
audience.
Speech Anxiety Management
This was the big thing I learned throughout this course. I always got nervous to speak publicly,
but this class not only showed me how to improve in that area but also how to approach it. The
key was having a good structure based on many revisions along with a lot of practice. This leads
to more confidence when speaking publicly, and once you start and get going, you do much
better when it comes to speech anxiety.
Lessons Learned
I feel like I took a lot away from this class. Not only in my ability to do public speaking, but in
my understanding of it. It helped me with my speech structure and public speech anxiety, and
showed me the tools to making a great speech. I think this class was well worth my time, and
will actively help me in many other academic areas. Overall, it was a great class.
