Admission to Part-Time B.E.(Self Supporting) Degree Programmes offered in the University

INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

1. CAMPUSES AND COURSES OF STUDY

The following B.E. Degree Courses are offered in Part-Time (Evening Programme) mode in the
University Departments of Anna University, Chennai - 600 025.

2. DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

The Duration of the Programme is 3½ Academic years comprising 7 semesters.

3. CLASS HOURS

Classes will be held from 6.15 p.m. to 9.15 p.m. on all working days. Candidates seeking
admission should satisfy the admission authorities that they will be in a position to attend
the classes in the evenings and also on holidays and fulfill the requirements regarding
attendance as laid down by the University from time to time.

4. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

Candidates satisfying the eligibility conditions given below as on the last date of submission of
application are eligible to apply. No change in claims made in application will be permitted after
the last date prescribed for submission of application .
a) Qualification:
Candidates should have passed any one of the 3 years Diploma Course in appropriate
branch of Engineering / Technology of the State Board of Technical Education and
Training, Tamil Nadu from an AICTE approved institution or its equivalent.
b) Year of passing Diploma:
Candidates should have passed the diploma examination in the relevant branch of
specialization atleast two years before the last date prescribed for the Registration of
Application.
c) Place of Work:
Candidates should be working in a place within a distance of 120 km from the college to
which he/she seeks admission so as to enable him/her to attend the classes regularly by
6.15 p.m. and the place of working should be in Tamil Nadu.
d) Age Limit:
No Age limit is prescribed for admission to B.E.(Part –Time) Degree Programme.
e) Employment:
(i)Candidates who are working professionals at the time of admission alone are eligible.
(ii)Candidates should have a minimum of two years full time work experience after
successfully completing the Diploma in a Registered firm / Company / Industry /
Educational / Government and Autonomous organizations in the relevant field in which
admission is sought at the time of admission.
f) Mode of Study:
The mode of Diploma study shall be Full Time or Lateral Entry or Part-Time. Candidates
studied in distance mode are not eligible.

IMPORTANT:

o The Candidates who have passed their qualifying examinations other than the
Diploma courses mentioned above have to obtain the eligibility Certificate
from the Directorate of Technical Education and should produce the same
without fail.

o If Registration of Applications is less than 15, the candidate`s application will


not be processed.

o If the number of candidates who appear for Counseling is less than 15 (per
branch). Counseling will not be conducted.

o Any course shall be offered only if the admission strength in that branch is
more than 15.

6. PREPARATION OF MERIT LIST

Maximum marks for Qualifying Diploma Examination : 75

Maximum marks for Work Experience : 25

(i) Marks for Qualifying Diploma Examination

Marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying Diploma Examination shall be reduced to
75 marks will be considered for selection as given below.

(ii) Marks for Work Experience


Marks for work experience shall be calculated from the succeeding month of passing the
qualifying diploma examination to the last date prescribed for the registration of application.
Maximum 25 marks for work experience shall be calculated as follows

(iii) Preparation of Merit List

Merit list will be prepared as per rank based on the marks obtained by the candidate in the
Qualifying Diploma examination and the marks awarded for the period of service adopting
the weightage in proportion 75:25 and evaluated for a total of 100 marks.

In cases where more than one candidate have got the same marks in the common rank list,
inter-se rank among such candidates shall be determined in the order of priority as given
below.

7. COMMUNAL RESERVATION

7.1. Selection shall be made under seven categories namely OC, BC, BCM, MBC & DNC,
SC, SCA and ST reservation following the rules of communal reservation of the
Government of TamilNadu.

7.2. Tamil Nadu native Candidates alone will be considered for communal reservation. The
list of communities is given in Annexure –I.

a) Candidates seeking admission under ST/ SC/ SCA/ MBC & DNC / BC & BCM
reservation should obtain the certificate of social status issued by the competent
authority in the Permanent Community card format or Electronic form / digitally
signed e-Certificate prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu and upload a
self-attested photocopy of the same along with the online application. Community
Certificate in paper format will not be accepted.

b) The applicants from Tamil Nadu State should have obtained permanent
community certificate in card format or Electronic Form or Digitally signed
e-certificate (for SC / SCA / ST / MBC& DNC, BC and BC Muslim candidates),
only from the authorities given in the table on or before the last date prescribed for
submission of filled-in online application.

Community Certificate issued after the last date prescribed for submission of filled-in
online applications will not be considered.

c) For communities linked with districts (Refer Annexure-I) the candidates should obtain their
Community Certificate in their respective district. Community Certificates obtained from
other than their respective district will not be considered and they will be treated under Open
Competition category. However, candidates who belong to BC, MBC and DNC
communities in a particular district and migrated to other places in Tamil Nadu and
obtained Community Certificates from competent authorities in the migrated district on or
after 28.10.2009, will be considered (as per G.O. (St) No. 95 BC, MBC & Minorities Welfare
Department, dated 28.10.2009).

d) Community Certificate obtained from Other States will not be considered for communal
reservation.Other state candidates working in Tamil Nadu will be considered under Open
Competition (OC) Category only.

e) Candidates who have not uploaded the self attested photocopy of the Permanent
Community Certificate in card format or electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate at the
time of submission of the application will be treated under OC Category. In the event of
such a decision, the eligibility conditions and rules prescribed for OC category will be
applicable for such candidates and if such candidates do not satisfy the rules of “OC
Category” their applications are liable to be rejected. No correspondence in this regard will
be entertained.

f) Candidates who have passed IX std. / X std. /qualifying Diploma examination outside Tamil
Nadu will be considered under Open Competition category only. However, Tamil Nadu
Native candidates who have studied either IX std. or X std. or Diploma outside Tamil Nadu
and claim communal reservation should upload a copy of Nativity Certificate only in
electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate along with the filled in online application,
otherwise they will be considered under OC category.

8. DIFFE RENT LY AB LED PERS ON S C ATE GORY

 Fi ve percent of seats are reserved for Differently Abled Persons @ 1% for each of the
following category :

a) Blindness and low vision.

b) Deaf and hard hearing.

c) Locomotor disability including cerebral paisy, leprosy cured dwarfism acid attack
victims and muscular dystrophy.

d) Autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness.

e) Multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (d) including deaf-
blindness in the programme identified for each disabilities

 The Competent Authority to issue Disability Certificate is District Medical Board duly
constituted by the State Government. The District Medical Board shall consists of a
minimum of three members (Chairman and two Members) out of which atleast one
shall be a specialist depending on the disability prescribed.

Certificate obtained from an individual doctor will NOT be considered.

 The medical certificate should be in the prescribed format given in Certificate No. I, II & III.

 The certificates should have been obtained prior to the last date prescribed for registration
and submission of online application indicated in the notification.

8.1 Eligibility Criteria for various Disabilities

a. Norms for Locomotor disability including cerebral paisy, lepros y


cured dw arfism acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy

Candidates with permanent physical impairment of 40 % and above are


considered as disabled. The candidates with Orthopaedic Disability of the
following types are eligible for claiming admission against Differently Abled
Persons Category (Certificate No. I)
(i) Independent in ambulance with or without calipers but without
walking aids.
(ii) Good standing balance without calipers but without any support.
(iii) Hand Function with normal limit without any aid
(iv) Good control over bladder & bowl
(v) Disease must be non-progressive

b. Norms for Deaf and Hard Hearing


Candidates with hearing ability of 40 db and above only in the better ear with
speech discrimination score of 50 % and above are considered as
disabled.

c. Norms for Blindness & Low vision


Candidates with low vision of 40 % a nd above are considered as disabled.
(Certificate No. III)

Low Vision: Persons with low vision means a person with impairment of vision of
less than 6/18 to 6/60 with best correction in the better eye or impairment of
field in any one of the following categories:

a) Reduction of fields less than 50o.


b) Heminaopia with macular involvement.
c) Attitudinal defect involving lower fields categories of Visual Disability all with
correction.

9. COUNSELING

The Counseling for Admission for the year 2021-2022 will be conducted only through Online. Once
the Rank list has been published, the Web Portal for exercising the choice of the branch of study
will be available.

10. PRESENT EMPLOYMENT CERTIFICATE (REFER CERTIFICATE NO. IV)

Candidates can download the format for Present Employment certificate (No. IV) from Anna
University Web Portal. Present employer must fill up this certificate. The candidates should
upload the scanned copy of this certificate. Registration of Application without uploading
this certificate will be rejected. Certificate without the Authority seal or signature will not
be considered.
The applications of such candidates will be rejected.

Candidates with experience certificate issued by organizations / Institutions other than


Government / Quasi Government Department should also upload any one of the following:

1. TNGST Certificate / CST Certificate / TIN Certificate.

2. Certificate of Registration under Companies Act. / SSI Registration Certificate /


Certificate of any statutory body.

3. Government approved contractors registration certificate (current year) License


No. with latest I.T. clearance certificate for private individuals other than companies.
4. GPF statement, Pay slip, etc.

Note:

 The Period of Training / Apprenticeship will not be counted for experience.

 The period of work experience will be taken from the succeeding month of
passing the qualifying Diploma Examination till the last date prescribed for
Registration of applications.

 Work experience will be taken into account only if the Registration / Certificate
number of the company is clearly mentioned in the work experience certificate,
otherwise the period of experience will not be considered.

 Offer of appointment letter / relieving order will not be considered in lieu of work
experience certificate.

 Date of joining and date of relieving should be clearly mentioned in the


experience certificate.

 Work experience certificate(s) should be in the employer’s letter head with


TNGST / CST / TIN / TAN / RC / License No. etc.

 If the candidate had worked in foreign countries, he/she should produce


certificate in the employer’s letter head clearly mentioning the date of joining and
date of relieving and the nature of work etc. Further, copies of passport and work
visa have to be uploaded. In the visa / passport, if the entries are in languages
other than English, translated copy obtained from the authorised institution of the
same in English should be produced.

11. GUIDELINES TO FILLUP THE APPLICATION

Registration of only one application is sufficient for College of Engineering Guindy


Campus and Madras Institute of Technology Campus, Chennai.

a) Enter all the details required in the application form.

b) The name should be entered as in SSLC or its equivalent certificate. Change in name/
initial, if any, should be supported with Gazette notification. In the case of women
candidates, other valid evidences such as marriage registration certificate will be
accepted.

c) Registration fee Rs.600/- (+18% GST) for General category and Rs.300/-(+18% GST)
for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) should be paid only through online
mode by using Credit Card / Debit Card / Net Banking.
d) The self-attested copies of the following documents should be uploaded:

(i) X standard mark sheet or its equivalent certificate


(ii) XII standard mark sheet (for lateral entry candidate)
(iii) Diploma mark sheets of all semesters or Consolidated mark sheet
(copy of both sides of the mark sheets / certificates)

(iv) Diploma Certificate
