RNC Presentation
Main Subrack
An RNC 3810 always includes a Main Subrack. The Main Subrack interconnects all other subracks in the RNC
through Inter-Subrack Links (ISL).
The Main Subrack includes all functions of an Extension Subrack as well as
common functions to the RNC. Functions of the Main Subrack include the
following:
• Non-blocking ATM switch
• ISLs towards the Extension Subracks
• Processors for user plane processing and control plane processing
• Processors for centralized node processing
• Timing signals for the node
• Local Ethernet termination for element management
• Transmission interfaces for termination of all interfaces:
Mur interface towards OSS-RC
lu interface towards the Core Network
Iur interface towards other RNCs
lub interface towards the RBSs
Note:Unused slots must always contains a dummy board or dummy slots for securing
correct cooling airflow to units operation
Extension Subrack
The Extension Subrack, interfaces towards the RBSs. The number of
Extension Subracks in a node is from 0 to 5. The functions of an Extension
Subrack
comprises of the following:
• Non-blocking ATM switch
• ISLs(Inter Subrack Link) towards the Main Subrack
• Processors for user plane processing and control plane processing.
• Transmission interfaces for termination of the lub interface towards the RBSs
SCB, Switch Control Board
The SCB contains hardware that provides the following:
• ATM switch core functionality
• Circuits for System Clock distribution
• Interfaces that allow connection of four ISLs at configurable rates
• Interfaces providing connection of fan supervision signals
• Power filtering and distribution
The two outer positions in a subrack are always reserved for SCBs.
SXB, Switch eXtension Board
The SXB contains hardware that provides the following:
• Interfaces that allow connection of four ISLs at configurable rates
The SXB is only used in the main subrack.
TUB, Timing Unit Board
The TUB is used in the Main Subrack. It provides the following:
• Generation of reference timing signals • Regeneration of reference timing
signals
• Stabilization of reference timing signals
• Handling of node synchronization procedures
• System Clock oscillator
• GPS connection, e.g. for synchronization input
GPB, General purpose Processor Board
The GPB operates as a Main Processor (MP). It contains and executes the main parts of the RNC software.
The GPB is equipped with Ethernet and asynchronous serial interfaces accessible from the board front panel.
The GPB also contains a flash disc drive.
