MATHS
1. Write the values of k for which the system of equations x + ky = 0, 2x – y = 0 has unique solution.
2. Write the number of solutions of the following pair of linear equations :
x + 2y – 8 = 0 and 2x + 4y = 16
3. Solve graphically: x – 2y = 5 , 2x + 3y = 10
4. Write the value of k for which the system of equations x + y – 4 = 0 and 2x + ky – 3 = 0 has
no solution.
5. Solve by elimination 8x + 5y = 9 , 3x + 2y = 4
6. Solve :

7. Solve by substitution : 3x – 7y + 10 = 0 , y – 2x – 3 = 0
8. Solve for x :-
(a) x + 2y + 1 = 0 , 2x – 3y – 12 = 0
9. A two digit number is such that the product of its digit is 20. If 9 is added to the number, the digits
interchange their places. Find the number.
10. If 2 is added to the numerator of a fraction, it reduces to ½ and if 1 is subtracted from the denominator, it
reduces to 1/3. Find the fraction.
11. Two years ago, a father was five times as old as his son. Two years hence, his age will be 8 more than three
times the age of the son. Find the present ages of father and son.
12. While covering a distance of 30 km. Ajeet takes 2 hours more than Amit. If Ajeet doubles his speed, he would
take 1 hour less than Amit. Find their speeds of walking.
13. A man has only 20paisa coins and 25 paisa coins in his purse . If he has 50 coins in all totaling Rs. 11.25 , how
many coins of each kind does he have ?
14. 5 pens and 6 pencils together cost Rs 9 and 3 pens and 2 pencils cost Rs 5. Find the cost of 1 pen and 1
pencil?
15. A man starts his job with a certain monthly salary and earns a fixed increment every year. If his salary was Rs
1500 after 4 years of service and Rs 1800 after 10 years of service, what was his starting salary and what is
the annual increment ?
16. John and Jivanti together have 45 marbles . Both of them lost 5 marbles each , and the product
number of marbles they now have is 128 . Form the quadratic equation to find how many marbles
they had to start with , if John had x marbles
