Questions:
1. Expound on problem-centered curriculum design. Is it relevant in today’s context
of education? Why? Or Why not?
2. Identify the stakeholders of the curriculum and highlight some of their roles.
Answers:
1. Yes, because problem-centered curriculum model helps students engage in
authentic learning because they're exposed to real-life issues and skills, which
are transferable to the real world.
2. The stakeholders and their roles are:
a. Learners – the primary stakeholders in the curriculum. The success of the
curriculum can only be measured by the extent of learning that the
learners have achieved.
b. Teachers – as curriculum developers and implementers, their primary
rules are planning and writing the curriculum, they address the goals,
needs and interest of the learner by creating experiences from where the
students can learn.
c. Administration – they supervise curriculum implementation, select and
recruit new teachers, admit students, procure equipment’s and materials
needed for effective learning. They also plan for the improvement of
school facilities and have privilege to command but at the same time to
lead the institutions.
d. Parents – known as supporters to the curriculum. It simply means that the
parents are the best supporters of the school, especially because they are
one’s paying for their child education.
e. Government – represented by DEPED for basic education curricula and
CHED for tertiary and graduate education curricula.
