Icematic Range TDS
Icematic Range TDS
DESCRIPTION:
The Castrol Icematic range is high performance refrigeration lubricant especially formulated to meet the
requirements of low temperature operations. They are napthenic based, pure mineral oils of medium viscosity index
that have very low pour points and are wax free. This ensures that the products remain fluid under the very low
temperatures to which they are exposed. The range can have direct contact with motor windings in sealed units and
in addition, be mixed with the refrigerant in the compressor and refrigerant lines.
APPLICATION:
In the selection of the Castrol Icematic grade required, the following factors should be considered:
• compressor type;
• compressor temperature;
• evaporator temperature;
• type of refrigerant;
• dielectric requirements (Hermetic type); and
• viscosity
To select the correct Icematic grade please refer to the chart below. This table is based on recommendations of
Carrier Air Conditioning (Pty) Limited.

Note:
The viscosity grades specified by the compressor manufacturer should be adhered to. Castrol Icematic 299 is not to
be used with sulphure dioxide. This grade is recommended for extreme thermal conditions occuring at the
compressor.
Castrol Icematic 66 and 99 are normally recommended for use with the following refrigerants:
ammonia, methyl chloride, methylene chloride, sulphur dioxide.
BENEFITS/FEATURES:
• Extended equipment life.
• Greater productivity.
• The exceptional thermal stability prevents hard carbon deposits from forming around hotspot at extreme
temperatures.
• The product’s chemical stability prevents the degradation of, or reaction with any materials normally used in the
system at high or low temperatures.
• The range is compatible with refrigerants, maintaining excellent performance in the event of contamination in
service.
• The low wax content prevents flocculent separation of wax from the oil-refrigerant mixtures.
• The range does not gel or block pipelines at low temperatures as a result of low pour point.
• All Icematic range is refined to a minimum dielectric strength of 25Kv, thus ensuring excellent product
performance.
