A. LESSON PREVIEW/REVIEW

Your classroom instructor for this subject, Biochemistry – Laboratory is ________________________________. Listed
below are the additional information vital during orientation.

B. MAIN LESSON

Working in biochemistry laboratory involves using different instruments, equipment and other laboratory tools. It is
your responsibility to use them according to their designated purposes only and based on given set of instructions. You will
be using them for conducting experiments, research and other forms of testing. Therefore, it is crucial that you are familiar
with the different laboratory instruments and have knowledge on how to properly use them.
There are many laboratory instruments that are designed for specific study purposes, and it is important that you
know which ones to use for a certain task. You may need to analyze samples that are organic or inorganic, from a variety
of sources. Hence, you should know which equipment is to be used for what kind of sample to be tested. In any case you
mistakenly place the substance that wasn’t meant for that equipment, you may get worst results. It may also damage the
equipment and/or device if you accidentally put a substance that it couldn’t withstand. Therefore, knowing how to effectively
use different laboratory instruments is vital while you are conducting experiments and make the laboratory a safe place to
work.

Frequently Asked Questions

 Why is that most of laboratory apparatus are made of glass than plastic?
Most of the laboratory apparatus is made of glass because glass is easy to clean. Glass is a transparent material and
we can see through it clearly for examination purpose. Glass is not reactive with most of the chemicals used in
experiments. Glass withstands high temperatures therefore they can be subjected to heat for any experimentation and
for sterilization purpose. .
