picked up a few grapes from the table and ate it. He took out an orange jiuce packet from the fridge ans
went out to play.Rita his sister had lunch and ate an apple from the fruit box which they had purchased
yesterday.Both the children had fruits but did not benefit from them.

What would you choose and why?


1. Eating unwashed fruits or washing fruits before eating.

Washing fruits before eating because this process will


remove the germs present on the surface of the fruits.

2. Washing your hands before eating or eating without washing hands.

Washing your hands before eating to kill germs on hands.

Having an orange. It will also provide roughage which


will help to get rid of undigested food from the body.

1- I would choose fresh fruits.

Nutrient deficiency over a long period will lead to malnutrition. Malnutrition can lead to the
development of diseases and chronic health conditions. Long- term effects of undernutrition include a
higher risk of underweight obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

yourself.

It is a balanced meal because it contains all the different food groups in proper proportions.

We need to include all the types of nutrients in our diet. Fruit ,veggies, bread, cereals, meat fish and
pulses should be in more quantity and milk, dairy, fat and sugar should be lesser quantities.

because the morning sunlight consists of vitamin D. If babies are not exposed to sunlight,
they will suffer from vitamin-D deficiency which will cause the disease Rickets.

4. Leela is a 16-year-old girl. She complained of tiredness and loss of appetite. She was unable to
Concentrate at school. She appeared pale and unhealthy. Her mother took her to the doctor.
The doctor told her that it was because of her poor diet. What condition is she likely to have?
What dietary changes should she be advised?

Leela is suffering from malnutrition. She should have a balanced diet means proper
proportion of every nutrients (energy giving, body- building and protective nutrients).

1.Explain why some diseases are communicable and some non-communicable?


Communicable diseases spread through different modes of transmission because they are caused by
germs. Whereas, non- communicable diseases are caused due to deficiency of a particular nutrient and
therefore no germ is involved here.
2. It is said that milk is a wholesome food as it contains most of the nutrient. Do you think that you can
remain healthy by consuming only milk as your regular diet?

Milk is regarded as a complete food because of its rich content of all the nutrients for sustaining life
and maintaining good health. However, milk is a wholesome food for an infant not for an adult
because an adult has to perform various activities regularly.

3. Research and find two insects that spread diseases. Explain how the diseases are spread by

4. Suggest five good habits that can be practiced to help prevent the spread of
