Axle Design For Trolley Cart

The document summarizes the axle design requirements for a trolley cart. It calculates the total load on the axle to be 516.8kg under dynamic conditions. It then calculates the maximum bending moment on the axle to be 1964547.5 Nm. Using the allowable bending stress and the calculated maximum moment, it determines that the required section modulus is 10914.15 mm^3. Finally, it selects a 50x50x5 mm square hollow steel section that meets the required section modulus.

Axle design for trolley cart

The total load of the axle is the weigt of the frame plus the weight of the handle plus the weight of the object load

52.2kg + 2.2kg + 204kg = 258.4kg

Dynamic condition

Dynamic load = 2 * weight in static condition

Total weight = 2 * 258.4kg = 516.8kg

0.47kg/mm

moment

Maximum moment=1964547.5N/mm

Bending stress

(M/I) = (σb (allowable)/Y)

Maximum bending =1964547.5NM

Permissible stress=yield strength/factor of safety ,factor of safety=2

370/2=185Mpa

Z= section modules =[bending stress (allowable) ]/Ymax

M/I= allowable bending stress/Y

Bending stress (allowable)=(ymax *M/I) = M/Z

Z= M/bending stress allowable

Z= 1964.55NM/180N

=10914.15mm3

Z for hollow cross section

b
d D
Z= [ BD3 - bd3 ]/6D

10914.15=[(50*503)- bd3]/6*50 but b=d

B
b4 = 2975755

b=d=41.5

thickness=[50 – 41.5]/2 = 4.25

so by taking thickness = 5 mm

50*50*5 ( SHS ) square hollow steel
