Gen. Physics 1 G12 Q1 W3 LAS

1) The document contains a learning activity sheet for a General Physics 1 class with problems involving relative velocity, projectile motion, and circular motion. 2) The first problem calculates the resultant velocity of an airplane encountering a tailwind. 3) The second problem uses trigonometric functions to determine the horizontal and vertical components of the initial velocity of a stunt motorcycle jumping at an angle.

Learning Activity Sheet

General Physics 1 (Grade 12)
First Quarter - Week 3

Name of Learner: Alexandra B. Belecina Date: 9/15/2022

Section: Silver

MELC No: 14-18

MELCs:
• Describe motion using the concept of relative velocities in 1D and 2D • Deduce the
consequences of the independence of vertical and horizontal components of
projectile motion
• Calculate range, time of flight, and maximum heights of projectiles • Infer
quantities associated with circular motion such as tangential velocity, centripetal
acceleration, tangential acceleration, radius of curvature
• Solve problems involving two-dimensional motion in contexts such as, but not
limited to ledge jumping, movie stunts, basketball, safe locations during firework
displays, and Ferris wheels

Title of the Lesson: Relative Velocity, Projectile Motion and Circular Motion

Directions/Instructions:
1. You are encouraged to use a calculator (i.e. scientific calculator) in solving. 2. If
the spaces provided are not enough, you may write and show your solutions on
another sheet/s of paper.
3. The activities presented here will help you in the attainment of the learning
competencies. Read every instruction and do each activity with understanding.

Activity Proper:
Activity No. 1: Being in Motion: Problem Solving

1. A plane can travel with a speed of 80 mi/hr with respect to the air. Determine the
resultant velocity of the plane (magnitude only) if it encounters a 10 mi/hr
tailwind.
Solution and Answer:
Resultant Velocity = 80 mi / hr + 10 mi / hr
Answer: 90 mi / hr

2. A motorcycle stunt person traveling 50 mi/hr jumps off a ramp at an angle of 25

degrees to the horizontal. Utilize trigonometric functions to determine the

4. The tallest Ferris wheel in the world is located in Singapore. Standing 42 stories
high and holding as many as 780 passengers, the Ferris wheel has a diameter of
150 meters and takes approximately 30 minutes to make a full circle. Determine
the tangential velocity (in m/s) and the centripetal acceleration (in m/s2) of the
riders on the Singapore Flyer.
