Experiment # 4 Lab

Normal Saline Solution 0.9% (nasal Decongestion) 100 mL


Master formulation
Sodium chloride 9g
Benzalkonium chloride 1g
Distilled water QS 1000ml
Send 100 mL
Calculation:
Reducing factor = 100 /1000 = 0.1
Original 9g 1000 mL
?? 100 mL
 Sodium chloride =9 x 0.1 = 0.9 g
 Distilled water QS 100 mL
Procedure:
 Take 0.9 g of sodium chloride (NaCl), accurately weighed upon balance and transfer to a
volumetric flask.
 Weigh 0.1g of benzalkonium chloride
 Add approximately 60 mL of distilled water to the volumetric flask and mix properly to
dissolve NaCl.
 Add distilled water to make the final volume up to 100 ml.
 After a final mixing, transfer NaCl solution to the reagent bottle and label.
