HISTORICAL GLIMPSE OF BATANCAOA SOUTH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Location and Topography

Batancaoa is situated at approximately 15.8309, 120.3753, in the island

of Luzon. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 17.1 meters or 56.1 feet

above mean sea level.

Batancaoa South Elementary School is particularly described and bound as

follows:

Batancaoa South Elementary School is located 7.2 kilometers east of Ubiztondo

Municipal Hall, Pangasinan. It is bounded in the south by Barangay Batangcaoa ,

Bayambang, on the north by Barangay Duplac, Urbiztondo, on the east by Barangay

Malaca, Urbiztondo and on the west by Barangay Baug, Urbiztondo.

Climate

In Batancaoa , the wet season is overcast, the dry season is partly cloudy, and it is

hot and oppressive year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature

typically varies from 72°F to 93°F and is rarely below 68°F or above 97°F.

Based on the beach/pool score, the best time of year to visit Batancaoa for hot-

weather activities is from early December to late March.

Population

Batancaoa South Elementary School has a ten (10) nationally funded personnel

composed of 1 School Head and 9 teachers and (144) one hundred forty-four

learners for S.Y. 2022-2023.

Cultural Groups

Most of the people are Pangasinenese. They are hardworking and industrious.

Eighty percent (80%) of the population are Roman Catholic and twenty percent

(20%) are Non-Catholic.

Natural Resources

It is a rural and agricultural barangay. Most of the people are farmers. They plant

rice, corn, and vegetables yearly. They also raise pigs, cattle and chickens in their

backyard as one of their source of income. Occasionally, this barangay produces

fishes like tilapia, catfish, shrimp and other fishes as it is located near the creek.

Students learn in a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe and motivating

environment.

Teachers facilitate learning and constantly nurture every learner.

Administrators and staff, as stewards of the institution, ensure an enabling

and supportive environment for effective learning to happen

Family, community and other stakeholders are actively engaged and share

responsibility for developing lifelong learners.

Batancaoa South Elementary School is an advocate of accountability,

leadership, and excellence in order to realize our shared vision, and mission.

Aligning programs, projects, and activities with the existing policies, systems and

procedures of the department of educations.

f. HISTORY OF BATANCAOA SOUTH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Batangcaoa Elementary School is in a barangay southbound of

Batangcaoa, Urbiztondo, Pangasinan, covering a total area of 15,269.25 square

meters, donated by middle-class citizens, and established in 1935. The school

started with one classroom, Class 1, which was handed by Mr. Pedro Banaag. In

1941, the school offered a complete elementary school curriculum from grade 1 to

grade 6. Fifteen years after a barangay opened another school northbound of that

barangay, the school changed its name to Batangcaoa Old Site Elementary

School.

In 1983, Mrs. Concepción P. Sison (Former District Supervisor) changed its

name to Batancaoa South Elementary School.

1990 was a challenging year for the school. Historic earthquakes have been

devastating and have caused enormous damage. The school was slowly working on

building facilities. There have been many changes in the school over the last few

years.

The school currently consists of three buildings: the Marcos Type Building, the

Benson Building, and the Telengtan Building (a two-story building donated by the

private organization Ing. John S. Morales). In 2019, the school gymnasium was built

by the state government.

These changes were made under the leadership of the following School

heads Mr. Seferino Vinluan, Mr. Teofilo Terrado , Mrs. Felicidad Dispo, Mr. Alejandro

Paragas, Mr. Ceferino P. Mendoza, Mr. Juan G. Cariño, Mrs. Helen C. Brian, Mrs.

Lita C. Ferrer, Mr. Rosauro P. Valdez, Mrs. Josephine B. Macalanda, Mrs.

Jacqueline P. Alvarez,Mrs Roche Roxanne P. Garcia and Josephine L. Zara.

The school is composed of 9 classroom teachers including 1 Master

Teacher,1 Administrative Officer I, and headed by a generous Head Teacher III.

As of August 22, 2022, the enrolment is 143 from kinder to grade 6.

Batangcaoa South Elementary School has produced talented learners who

are outstanding figures of the 21st century. The school provides quality education

and essential skills to produce globally competitive 21 st-century learners. Its

objectives are the following: (1) to create high standards of learning experiences for

all children by providing access to all areas of the Curriculum; (2) to develop self-

discipline; (3) to develop a partnership between school and the community; and (4)

to develop policies and schemes of work for all areas of the curriculum, core,

contributory and cross-curricular.
