Propaganda Assignment

The document provides questions about the ACLU and NRA for a propaganda assignment. [1] The ACLU defends civil liberties in court and works with lawmakers, such as a case helping Syrian refugees. Evidence suggests it leans Democratic. [2] The NRA promotes hunting and shooting sports but also gun ownership rights, as in a recent Supreme Court case affirming rights outside the home. It likely leans Republican and uses tactics like youth programs to further its goals of supporting gun ownership.

Please answer these 8 questions about the ACLU and the NRA and submit this assignment
ACLU Questions
1. What is the purpose of the ACLU? And what do you think of the organization in
general at this point? (2 points) The ACLU is dedicated to defending and preserving the
rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States to all
citizens.

2. What does it do to attempt to reach its goals/What are its tactics? Give several
examples. (4 points)
ç They do court battles
ç They help people to know their rights by providing information.
ç They work with law and policy makers to ensure necessary statutes exist.

3. Describe one major court case in which the ACLU is currently involved? How
would you vote on that case? (2 points) They basically sued Governor Mike Pence and
the secretary of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration to prevent them
from stopping aid to Syrians who are escaping from their country. I would vote in favor
of this case, because it seems important to me to help these families to have the peace
they need.

4. Every interest group has biases, so identify some evidence of biases that you might
have noticed on this website.  For instance, most experts think the ACLU leans more
toward one of the major political parties than the other. Can you tell which one?
Or, can you see examples of propaganda tactics being used here? (2 points) I think
they are democrats, normally republicans do not get involved in social issues because
they believe that the government should be the one in charge of those decisions.

NRA Questions
1. What is the purpose of the NRA? And what do you think of the organization in general
at this point? (2 points) Promote hunter safety, and promote and defend hunting as a
shooting sport and as a viable and necessary method of promoting the spread, growth and
conservation, and wise use of our renewable wildlife resources. Any association that defends
killing animals for sport is not going to be to my liking. I think that taking the life of a living
being for pure pleasure is foolish.

2. What does it do to attempt to reach its goals/What are its tactics? Give several
examples. (4 points)
ç They do events to promote their “sport”
ç They have programs for teaching young people how to kill animals.
3. Describe one major court case in which the NRA is currently involved? How would you
vote on that case? (2 points) The National Rifle Association (NRA) welcomes the Supreme
Court’s decision in NYSRPA v. Bruen. The Court affirmed that the right to bear arms does
not stop at a person’s front door. This is the most significant Second Amendment ruling in
more than a decade. No. I would not vote for the right to have guns. I think that should be
illegal.

4. Every interest group has biases, so identify some evidence of biases that you might
have noticed on this website.  For instance, most experts think the NRA leans more
toward one of the major political parties than the other. Can you tell which one?  Or,
can you see examples of propaganda tactics being used here? (2 points) They are
probably Republicans. Most Democrats are against the right to own guns.
