1. Definition
Procedure text is a piece of text that give us instructions for doing something. Procedure
text is a text that is designed to describe how something is achieved through a sequence
of actions or steps.
The social purpose of procedure text is to show how something is done through sequence
of steps which enable the reader to achieve the goal
2. Purpose
To explain/tell (the reader/user) how to make/operate/do something through a sequence
of actions or steps.
3. Generic structure
· Goal/showing the purpose
· Material/ingredients
· Steps
4. Language elements
- Use simple present tense, command word (pour, put, close, cut, etc), firstly, next, last
etc.
- Use adverbial of sequence / Using temporal conjunction
- Use command / imperative sentence
- Using adverbials (Adverbs)
- Using action verbs
5. Example

TEXT 1
Hoh to make Cheese Cake
A quick and easy cheese cake recipe
Yield : 6 servings
Prep. Time :5 minutes
Cook Time : 40 minutes
Total Time : 45 minutes

Ingredients:
16 ounces cream cheese, 2 packages, softened
½ cup sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla
2 large eggs
4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 prepared Graham cracker crust
Directions:
Beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla at medium speed until well-blended. Blend in 2 eggs. Stir
in chocolate chips then pour batter into Graham cracker chust. (you may sprinkle ¼ cup mini
semi sweet chocolate chips on top if you desire).
Bake at 35calcius for 40 minutes, or until certer is almost set. Cool.
For best results refrigerate for 3 hours.

TEXT 2
How to make a Cheese Omelet
Ingredients:
1 egg, 50 g cheese, 1 cup milk, 3 tablespoons cooking oil, a pinch of salt and pepper.

Utensils:
Frying pan, fork, spatula, cheese-grater, bowl, and plate.

Method:
• Crack the egg into a bowl
• Whisk the egg with a fork until it’s smooth
• Add milk and whisk well
• Grate the cheese into the bowl and stir
• Heat the oil in frying pan
• Turn the omelet with spatula and cook both sides
• Place on a plate, season with salt and pepper

F. Teaching and Learning Activities


    1.     Pre-Activities (10 Minutes)
1. Teacher enter the classroom with smile, greets the students nicely, and open the class
by invites the students to pray together.
2. Teacher checks students’ attendance.
3. Teacher give the students a learning motivation contextually about the benefits and
application of teaching material in everyday life, by giving examples, local, national
and international comparisons
4. Teachers lead the students to the topic by showing pictures and give some questions.
5. Teacher explain the outline of the materials and tell the students about the activity
which is going to be conducted.

2.      Main Activities (70 Minutes)


Observing ● The teacher give an explanation about the material which is
procedure text and teachers invite students to analyze some of
procedure text. (Text 1)
● The students listen to the teacher carefully when guiding the
students to find the structure, social function and language
feature of a procedure text.
Questioning ● Teachers persuade students to ask questions about what they
do not understand or confused when they try to analyze the
procedure text or paragraph; and
● Teachers answer all of the students’ questions (teacher
answers students’ questions while explaining the concept of
procedure text that’ll be learn later).
Exploring ● Students work cooperatively to look for and collect some
procedure text from various sources, including from the
internet, textbooks, etc.
● Students read references from different sources, including
textbooks and internet to find the social functions, text
structures, and language elements from the text (procedure
text).

Associating ● After they find it, they need to compare social functions, text
structures, and language elements from several texts they’ve
found from textbook/Internet (procedure text).
● Teachers share their feedback after seeing the students’ results
of analysis of social functions, text structure, and language
elements that used in the text from textbook/Internet they’ve
read.

Communicating ● Students convey a few texts from textbook/internet that have


been read to their friends, by reading, asking questions,
discussing each other's views on the contents of the text.
● Teacher ask every group to read their work in front of the class
and teacher ask other students to give attention to their friends’
work;
● Students discuss the problems in understanding the texts from
textbook/internet and teacher gave a correction towards
students’ problem by giving clear explanation (if students
make any mistakes).

3.      Post-Activities (10 minutes)


1. Teacher ask students to explain briefly about the material today (procedure text) and
students identify the problems which are faced during the teaching learning process
(reflection);
2. Teacher gives feedback and reinforcement on students’ statements about the problems
they’re faced earlier;
3. Teacher gives an assessment (assessment sheet of students performance).

2. Speaking Skills
Students are assigned to make a video presentation about procedure text by explaining step-
by-step of making something or to operate something. Don’t forget to include the generic
structure when making the procedure text. The duration is 7 minutes, maximum. The score
of the presentation will be assess based on their fluency (30%), pronunciation (15%),
grammar (20%), vocabulary (10%), and accuracy (25%). The video must be uploaded first to
Google Drive and then send the link to this email sukaci.republicaan@gmail.com no later then
10 February 2022.

3. Writing Skills
Students are assigned to compose or create a procedure text about how to make something or
how to operate things. Don’t forget to use the structure when create or compose the text. The
minimum words are 250 words. The students’ work will be assessed based on their grammar,
language use, vocabulary, mechanics, and punctuation. Please take a picture of your work when
its done and send it to this number 085273311747 (via WhatsApp). The deadline is due at 12
February 2022.
