The software in this publication is only applicable with S&C Controls.
Special Warranty The standard warranty contained in S&C’s standard conditions of sale, as set forth in
Provisions Price Sheet 150, applies to IntelliLink Setup Software. The first paragraph of said warranty
is replaced by the following:
(1) General: The seller warrants to the immediate purchaser or end user for a period
of 10 years from the date of shipment that the equipment delivered will be of the
kind and quality specified in the contract description and will be free of defects of
workmanship and material. Should any failure to conform to this warranty appear
under proper and normal use within 10 years after the date of shipment, the seller
agrees, upon prompt notification thereof and confirmation that the equipment has
been stored, installed, operated, and maintained in accordance with recommenda-
tions of the seller and standard industry practice, to correct the nonconformity
either by repairing any damaged or defective parts of the equipment or (at the
seller’s option) by shipment of necessary replacement parts. The seller’s warranty
does not apply to any equipment that has been disassembled, repaired, or altered
by anyone other than the seller. This limited warranty is granted only to the imme-
diate purchaser or, if the equipment is purchased by a third party for installation in
third-party equipment, the end user of the equipment. The seller’s duty to perform
under any warranty may be delayed, at the seller’s sole option, until the seller has
been paid in full for all goods purchased by the immediate purchaser. No such delay
shall extend the warranty period.
The seller further warrants to the immediate purchaser or end user that for a
period of two years from the date of shipment the software will perform substan-
tially in accordance with the then-current release of specifications if properly
used in accordance with the procedures described in the seller’s instructions. The
seller’s liability regarding any of the software is expressly limited to exercising
its reasonable efforts in supplying or replacing any media found to be physically
defective or in correcting defects in the software during the warranty period. The
seller does not warrant the use of the Software will be uninterrupted or error-free
Warranty Warranty of IntelliLink Setup Software is contingent upon the installation, configura-
Qualifications tion, and use of the control or software in accordance with S&C’s applicable instruction
sheets. This warranty does not apply to major components not of S&C manufacture,
such as batteries, communication devices, and remote terminal units. However, S&C
will assign to the immediate purchaser or end user all manufacturers’ warranties that
apply to such major components.

With IntelliLink Setup Software, every S&C automation product that communicates
using the DNP 3.0 protocol can be connected remotely by a computer connected to a
DNP network. Controls can be configured, historical and real-time data can be accessed,
and equipment can be troubleshooted. Optional password protection can be activated
to prevent unauthorized use of IntelliLink software.
To activate IntelliLink software, download a software license from the S&C
Automation Customer Support Portal. S&C automation controls with software
revision 3.4.x and earlier register version 5.0 of IntelliLink software with a license key.
Controls with software revision 3.5.x and later register version 6.0 of IntelliLink
software by registering the MAC address of the computer on which the IntelliLink
software is installed. Contact your local S&C Sales Office for more information.
IntelliLink software communicates with the following S&C products operating under
the DNP 3 protocol:
• IntelliRupter® PulseCloser® Fault Interrupters
• 5800 Series and 6800 Series Automatic Switch Controls
• 6801M Automatic Switch Operators
• IntelliNode™ Interface Modules and Universal Interface Modules
• M Series® Switch Operators

• Discontinued EnergyLine® 1000 Series Capacitor Controls
• Discontinued EnergyLine® 2851 and 2852 Automatic Switch Controls
NOTICE
The IntelliLink software works with a specific type of S&C control only if it is
configured for that type of control. In particular, an appropriate screenset must be
installed for each control type with which you want to be able to communicate.
A screenset is essentially a definition of product-specific user interface screens
designed for a particular type of control. IntelliLink screensets are normally installed
as part of the S&C product-installation procedure. They provide the user with a
product-specific graphical interface for interacting with S&C controls.
NOTICE

Control Series Automatic Switch Control. An S&C serial-to-SCADA port cable is required, catalog
number 07-001355-01. The serial link to the SCADA port can also be sent over a fiber-
optic transceiver, point-to-point radio, or modem. A computer must have a DNP address
registered with the S&C controls it will contact through IntelliLink software.
The 6800 Series Automatic Switch Control is the DNP router, sending messages through
its other SCADA port to its DNP radio, which communicates with the other S&C controls.
With this setup, users can configure and troubleshoot all their DNP controls by connect-
ing to one control. This does not affect this control’s participation in an IntelliTeam®
Automatic Restoration System, and its team does not go to an Out-of-Ready state.

NOTICE
When the computer is connected to a radio in a switch control (or the headend
radio) and the control (or SCADA system) is disconnected, the IntelliTeam
Automatic Restoration System (or SCADA system) normally connected to that
radio will not perform its normal function. The team of devices will go to the Out-
of-Ready state, or the SCADA system will not be able to communicate.
S&C recommends connecting the computer to a separate, dedicated radio.
For UtiliNet Radios, the DNP address of this radio must be listed in the Frame
Recognition DCW of each radio with which it will communicate. For SpeedNet™
Radios, the DNP and IP address of the dedicated radio must be listed in the
routing table.
Connecting to a DNP Figure 8 on page 13 shows a computer connected via Ethernet UDP/IP, Ethernet TCP/
Network Entry Point IP, or a serial connection through a DNP network entry point to the headend radio. The
DNP network entry point can be a device terminal server or a DNP proxy server, or the
computer can also be directly connected to a dedicated radio. Users can configure and
troubleshoot an entire network through a DNP radio.
When a DNP master station is also accessing information from the S&C control
equipment, the communication link must be capable of properly routing both DNP
message streams. Please contact your local S&C Sales Office for information about
applications that involve more complex communication systems.
Connecting Via DNP The Remote function of IntelliLink software allows connection locally to a device using the
DNP 3 protocol and to remotely access another control by calling its DNP address. Then,
setpoints can be changed, real-time data can be monitored, event logs can be viewed,
and reports can be generated as if connected directly to the faceplate of the control.
Follow these steps to connect via the control’s DNP address:
STEP 1. Connect the computer to the entry point device to the DNP network.
(a) S&C Automation Device—Use the SCADA port (Port A) on the control. A
DB9 to 6-pin IDC cable is needed; S&C catalog number 007-001355-01.
(b) Headend DNP Radio—Use the appropriate cable.
(c) Remote Terminal Server—Configure the computer to communicate
with the server.
STEP 2. Start the IntelliLink software, if it is not already running. The IntelliLink
software will attempt to connect using the communication parameters it
saved the last time it connected. To change to a different DNP address, click
on the Cancel button and change parameters. See Figure 10.

Refresh Options
The default refresh rate of 1000 ms is intended for use with local connections where
the channel bandwidth is dedicated to the connection. When connecting over a
network, the manual refresh should be used or the refresh rate extended to avoid
putting excessive strain on the network.
The Remote feature of IntelliLink software offers several options for refreshing data:
From an IntelliLink software screen, select the Tools>Options entry. Click on the
Screen Refresh tab of the Options dialog box. See Figures 12 and 13 on page 20. The
parameters on these screens include:
• Fill On Open (“Fill Screen on Open for Manual Refresh Mode” for software
3.5 and later)—When checked or the Yes option is selected, all the data on a screen
is requested whenever a new screen is called up.
• Refresh Mode Effective (for software versions 3.5 and later)—This allows
toggling between Manual and Auto mode at any time. It also is available at the
bottom of the IntelliLink data screen.
• Refresh Mode On Start Up—By selecting the Once option, the data on a screen
is requested only when a new screen is called up. By selecting Auto, the screen is
updated after the interval specified in Delay between consecutive screen refreshes
setpoint. Toggle between the Once and Auto settings also can be done by using the
buttons at the bottom of the IntelliLink data screen.
• Delay between consecutive screen refreshes—If the Refresh Mode option is set
to the Auto setting, the data are gathered at this interval.
• Show Refresh Progress (software versions earlier than 3.5.x)—When checked,
the status bar at the bottom right of the IntelliLink data screen shows the progress
of the Refresh operation.
If the Refresh Mode option is not set to the Auto setting, the screen can be refreshed
manually by clicking the Once button at the bottom of the IntelliLink Remote data screen.
For software versions earlier than 3.5.x, users can also refresh just one specific parameter
by right-clicking the parameter and selecting the Refresh Item option.
