Withdrawal Symptoms - The ill effects that a drug abuser feels when he stops

using the drugs

WHO – (World health Organization) international organization monitors the


prevalence of drug users and works towards its eradication.

Physical Dependence – drug addiction, drug dependent

Psychological Dependence - when the drug abuser is convinced in his mind that
he needs drug

Phases of Drug Dependence

1. Experimental Phase - The phase wherein individual is most capable to stop the
use of drugs.

2. Social Use Phase - An individual in this phase in drug dependence does not feel
the ill effects anymore but there is no craving for the drugs either, also called
Occasional use phase

3. Regular Use - The phase wherein individual starts to seek the drug and craves
for it.

4. Drug Dependence - Day-by-day use of drugs is a characteristic of this phase. An


individual who has reached the point of wanting to take drugs regardless of the
cost to the health or life.

Signs and Symptoms

1. Subtle Symptoms – Secrecy, increasing isolation, change in friends, dress,


appearance, interests or activities and drop of grades.

2. Not So-Subtle Symptoms - extreme loss or gain of weight, periods of deep


depression and offensive behavior

3. Sure-Fire Indicators – possession of drugs, spending time with drug users,


suicide, arrested due to drugs

Primary Causes and Contributory Factors to Drug Abuse

1. Family

2. School

3. Community

4. Media

5. Biological Factors – health conditions

6. Psychological Factors – Low self-esteem, need for acceptance of belonging,


need of attention

Classification of Dangerous Drugs


1. Marijuana - this drug processed from the Cannabis Sativa L plant species,
causes damage to the sex cell of both males and females

2. Inhalants – Laughing gas, Whippets, Poppers, Snappers, Kerosol Spray,


Solvents

3. Stimulants – Methamphetamine Cocaine, Shabu

4. Depressants – Barbiturates, Tranquilizers

5. Hallucinogens – hallucinations

6. Narcotics – at the start, it produces a feeling of euphoria (a feeling of great


happiness and excitement)

7. Parental Negligence

8. Sociological Factors – peer groups, lifestyle

Republic Act of 10121 - It is the act strengthening the Philippine disaster risk
reduction and management system, providing for the national disaster risk
reduction and management framework and institutionalizing the national disaster
risk reduction and management plan, appropriating funds therefore and for other
purposes.

Disaster - It is a serious disruption of the functioning of the community or a


societal involving widespread human, material, economic or environmental losses
and impacts which exceeds the ability of the affected community or society to cope
using its own resources.

Disaster Prevention - It is the outright avoidance of adverse impacts of hazards


and related disaster and expresses the concept and intention to completely avoid
potential adverse. (to avert a potential hazard)

Disaster Risk - It is the potential disaster losses in lives, health, status, livelihood,
assets and services which could occur to a particular community or society over
some specified future time period. (the probability that a disaster will occur)

Vulnerability – the inability to withstand, protect oneself or recover rapidly from a


potentially damaging event.

Hazard – The specific nature of a threat

Preparedness – Measures that ensure an effective disaster response

Mitigation – Measures that ensure an effective disaster response

Response – actions taken in the aftermath of a disaster to assist victims and to


rehabilitate society

The four aspects in the teaching of disaster management and preparedness


are:
1. Preparation
2. Mitigation
3. Emergency Response
4. Rehabilitation

November is declared as an Environmental Awareness Month in the Philippines

DRRM – Disaster of Risk Reduction Management (DRRM)

More than 24 typhoons every year – the Philippines is experiencing typhoon,


according to the study, "Natural Disaster Hotspots: A Global Risk Analysis", the
Philippines

Climate Change El Nino - This climate change phenomenon refers to severe


droughts in some natural sectors like agriculture, coastal and marine resources
and other.

Deforestation illegal logging - The escalating problem on the misused of


hardwood forests

Mining - This refers to the excavation of materials from the Earth's crust, including
those of organic origin, such as coal, oils and petroleum.

Waste Management - This environmental issue is linked to the problems of


consumption and rapidly growing population.

Abiotic component (air, water, rocks, and energy)

Biotic component (plants, animals and microorganism)

Ecosystem - This term refers to functional units that result from interaction of air,
rock energy, plants, animals, microorganism and cultural components

Recycle - This is the process of reusing old materials or transforming them into
new functional ones.

all levels is mandated in this law

National Security - This term refers to the protection of the economic and
environmental security of a nation, preservation of national power, and the control

well being

Diplomacy – is the art and practice of conducting negotiations among


representatives of groups or states.
Leviathan - This is the famous work of Thomas Hobbes which states that citizens

distorted values.

Patriotism and Nationalism - Two values to be inculcated to the youth in pursuit


of their role in nation building In the Philippines the sovereignty resides in People.
