Learning Inputs:
An argument is the act or process of arguing, reasoning, or discussing. It is also
a reason or reasons why you are for or against something. An example of an argument
is the statement that the death penalty is wrong because innocent people could be killed.
An argumentative essay is a genre of writing that requires you to investigate a
topic; collect, generate, and evaluate evidence; and establish a position on the topic in a
concise manner.
Here are the tips how to organize an argumentative essay using an argumentative
organizer.
➢ As in any essay, the first paragraph of your argumentative essay should contain
a brief explanationof your topic, some background information, and a thesis state
ment. In this case, your thesis will be a statement of your position on a particular
controversial topic. You are making a claim!
➢ Support your claim with more than one supporting reason -
in logical order. Next, give evidence to support your reasons.
➢ Make at least one (1) counterclaim (the other side of the argument).
➢ Next, provide facts or examples to refute it (make a rebuttal).
➢ Provide a concluding statement that calls the audience to take an action.

Necessity of Technological and Scientific Advancement
Moving towards the 21st century, technological advancement has become a focus of
today’s society. Technology has entered the lives of even the poorest members of society., and it’s
very rare to find anyone does not have some form of modern technology such as TV or the food
processor, in their home.
There are many things to be said in favor of technological advancement, the most obvious
being that it undoubtedly makes people’s lives easier. Without the benefits that technology brings,
the world would be much harder place to live in. for example, how would many businesses operate
without faxes, photocopiers and faxes.
On the other hand, technology also has the potential to destroy everything at the touch of
button – a point made by Quentin Reynolds when he said, “The scientist split the atom, now the
atom is splitting us.” The dan ger of technological advancement is that the machines will completely
replace humans, leaving fewer jobs and reducing human contact in everyday life, which cannot be
good thing for society.
In conclusion, although technology has the potential to provide a better quality of life for
everyone, it is also capable of destroying everything within a very short space of time. As such it
should be developed with caution and what very short never be allowed to take place of human
contact, because this is what ultimately holds a society together.

When writing an argumentative essay, one must have a straightforward structure
so, they are easy for readers to follow. The goal of an argumentative essay is to clearly
outline a point of view, reasoning, and evidence. A good argumentative essay should
follow certain steps:
Step 1. Look for argumentative essay topics
Step 2. Conduct research
Step 3. Write an argumentative essay outline
Step 4. Edit and proofread

THE IMPACT OF PLAYING VIDEO GAMES


Playing video games affects students negatively. It lessens their brain activity,
hampers their alertness, loses their focus easily and takes much of their time. These facts
give parents and guardians additional stress and worries about their kids. Parents feel
helpless in controlling their kids’ use of gadgets because the influence coming from their
friends is so high.
But I think not all video games have bad effects. I believe that there are video
games that can also help the brain activity like puzzles, solving simple math problems or
games that gives out quizzes in science or history. There are also some kids who can
relate more with peers or friends by playing video games with them thus can help solve
some socialization issues. Another thing is that some still spend very little time in playing
video games and have more time in studying the reason why I don't agree that much that
playing video games would totally harm one’s studies.
I therefore conclude that not all students who play video games get lower grades
in school, it still depends on what type of game they play or how much time they spend in
playing. Factors in which we should consider and analyze.
