01 Practice Exercise 1

1. Select a computing device or gadget (i.e., smartphone, tablet, and laptop) that
you currently have access to. Then, retrieve the following details about the
device.

Device Brand/Model: -
Operating System (OS): Windows 10
OS Version/Build: 21H2 19044.2006
Size of RAM: 8GB
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-760@2.80GHz
Display Quality: 1920x1080

2. Answer the following items in 3 to 5 sentences only.


a. Describe the performance of your device.
- With a few tweaks, my device can handle mid-tier gameplay and
performance despite having a low-tier processor, average RAM, and mid-
tier graphics card.
b. In your opinion, does the operating system affect the overall performance of
your device? Why or why not?
- Besides the hardware part of a device, an operating system can have an
affect on its performance. Some operating system is consuming too much
RAM and others aren’t. One of the examples of low RAM consuming
operating system is Linux; Linux isn’t much of a picky operating system
wherein you need this amount of RAM and other system requirements
other operating systems need.
c. Give five (5) installed applications that greatly affect the processing speed or
performance of your device.
- Spotify
- Steam
- Google
- Dota 2
- APEX Legends
d. In your perspective, is there a possible relationship between the processor
and the display quality of your device? Rationalize your answer.
- The relationship between the display quality and the processor greatly
depends if a video card/graphics card is present. If there is no video card
present, then the system will automatically use the build in graphic card of
the processor (some processors doesn’t have built in graphics card). If
there is a video card present, then it depends on how the video card can
perform and display higher output.
e. Operating System, RAM, or Processor. Which among the three would you
upgrade first and why?
- Upgrading the software or hardware of a device greatly depends on how
will you use it. If you will use it for gaming, then check first if you have
enough RAM and if your processor can handle it. If you will use it only for
surfing the web, then some device’s specs doesn’t really matter but there
are some cases wherein the device has low RAM and they are using a
RAM consuming web browser, in that case they at least need to upgrade
their RAM or change their storage to SSD (Solid State Drive).
