ESSAY (3 items x 10 points). Answer the following items in no more than five (5) sentences. Write your answer
on the space provided.
1. How can a person communicate effectively when working with colleagues? Discuss your answer.
Use face to face communication- it is more personal than sending an email. When you are face-to-face,
both you and your coworker can discuss things openly, quickly and professionally. And listen as your
coworkers speak, it is important to listen and pay close attention to what they are saying. Listening will
show your coworkers that you genuinely care about their point of view. If you are unclear on the
speaker’s message, ask politely for clarification.
2. Give at least one (1) example of a workplace conflict and provide suggestions on how this can
be resolved.
Poor communication resulted in a mistake. Inadequate communication is one of the most common
conflicts faced by business leaders. Whether it’s a set of instructions that were miscommunicated or
a comment that was taken the wrong way, a communication conflict can quickly result in tension,
poor productivity, and of course, errors. To handle this, begin by addressing the situation
immediately after it happens. Openly discuss the conflict with those involved without fanning the
flames or pointing fingers. Once you’ve thoroughly explored what happened, set clear expectations
for the future. Make expectations clear and measurable. Employee expectations are measurable
goals that outline steps to follow for success.
3. What is the importance of managing and resolving workplace conflicts and difficulties?
Managing conflict well can help find creative solutions to internal relationship issues, and can help to
prevent environments that breed negativity, stress, demotivation and general employee unrest. And
also it’s important because conflict resolution can help bring people together once an issue is put to
rest. One of the most important elements in conflict resolution is choosing to tackle problems as a
team, rather than attacking each other.
