1. Is reconstructionism important in education? Why? Cite examples.

Yes, because Reconstructionist focus on a curriculum that highlights social reform

as the aim of education.it helps individual to develop their critical thinking skills in real
social problem, and to take actions with their own hands. And it also helps to become
responsible citizen.

2. Since reconstructionism highlights social reform, in your opinion, do you agree to

bring back the Citizen Army Training (CAT) mandatory for high schools? Why?

Yes, because I believe that reconstructionism rebuild our culture and problems in
our society. I do agree to bring back the Citizen Army Training in school. Because it
helps to develop students' capacity to maintain law and order as they take on active
participation in community activities. To develop students' readiness in aiding the
members of the community, particularly in times of emergency. Yes, because citizen
army training helps learners to enhance social responsibility and commitment to the
development of their communities. With this it helps them to be a responsible individual
to their future.

3. What is progressivism? How did John Dewey introduce the concept of progressivism?
Discuss vividly.

Progressivism is a child centered approach focus on the progress of individual

considering their experiences, interest, abilities of students. In relation to John Dewey’ s
Theory, he introduced the concept of progressivism as a product of discontent with
traditional education which impose adults’ standards, subject matter, and methodologies.
He believes that students learn through action and being involved in the processes that
will get to the product. He wanted the students to work on hands-on projects so learning
would take place, rather than memorization. In Dewey’s mind, the students would have to
exercise their brain by problem solving and thinking critically, resulting in learning. This
allows the individual's brain to develop, so as the individual grows learning becomes
competent and ready to face the real world.

4. Is progressivism an effective way of teaching and learning? Why?

Yes, because progressivism adheres to John Dewey’s philosophy of “learning by

doing” in which students engage in activity followed by application” while also
developing their social and critical thinking skills. With this methodology, the teaching
and learning process is participatory: students engage with one another and grow in
social skills like cooperation and tolerance for opposing viewpoints. Additionally, this
method encourages students to address problems in the classroom that are like those
they would face in daily life. And this will help students to become responsible in their
future endeavor.

5. As a teacher, are you a reconstructionist or a progressivist? Why? Cite your

classroom practices that will support your choice.

I identify as a progressivist because, this approach is a “child centered approach”

focus on students’ progress. This method focuses on the child's degree of interest and
aptitude, and instruction is adjusted to account for various learning preferences. I believe
that this kind of learning is much more valuable than memorization. As a tle teacher this
approach greatly help me to be an efficient teacher, using a hands-on method is a
fundamental part of how students learn. How we educate our children will have a big
impact on the future of our country. The driving force of future will soon be the youngsters
of today. I firmly believe that this student-centered approach to learning, which emphasizes
educating the "whole child," applies learning in a social manner and enables students to
apply what they are learning to real-life situations. As a progressive teacher, is not a
dictator but more of a mentor and guide to the student. I take the learners into consideration
in everything he/she does and allows them to offer their input. I believe also that
progressivist teacher also facilitates social interaction among the students and groups them
together for projects so that they may learn how to work cooperatively and more educated,
better-rounded society.
