department store. We left home at 03.00 p.m. by motorcycle. As soon as we arrived

there, we went to the clothes section. I let him choose one. An hour later, I got bored
watching him confused in choosing a shirt. So I left him and went to the cassette
counter. Thirty minutes later, I went back to the clothes section but I couldn’t find
him there. My cell phone was broken so I couldn’t call him. I went to the parking
area. I saw his motorcycle was there but I couldn’t find him. I waited for him for a
few moments then finally I gave up and decided to go home.

When I arrived home, my mother told me that my friend called. She said that he was
in the department store looking for me. My mother asked me to come back to the
department store. Reluctantly, I walked to the department store and you know what?
When I arrived there his motorcycle was not in the parking area. He just went home. I
was very tired. There was no other choice, I had to walk home again. When I arrived
home, I was so tired. I was very angry but when I saw my friend’s broad smile greet
me in front of the door, I just could not help laughing.

Secara sederhana, yang dimaksud dengan Subject Complement adalah sebuah kata

atau frasa yang memberi keterangan terhadap subject dari sebuah kalimat. Sebuah
subject complement akan selalu mengikuti sebuah linking verb seperti: to be, to feel,
to become, to taste, to smell, to look,  dan juga to appear.

Verb complement adalah kata atau kelompok kata yang melengkapi makna verb
dalam sebuah kalimat. Secara sederhana, yang termasuk kedalam verb complement
adalah object dari sebuah kalimat, baik itu berupa direct object maupun berupa
indirect object. Saya yakin sobat sudah mengerti ya apa itu direct object dan indirect
object. Oleh karena itu, saya juga yakin sobat pasti langsung paham sekarang dengan
verb complement. Supaya semakin yakin, yuk kita lihat contoh verb complement di
bawah ini:

Yang dimaksud dengan Object Complement adalah adjective (kata sifat) atau

noun (kata benda) yang muncul setelah direct object dalam sebuah kalimat dan
memberikan keterangan terhadap direct object tersebut. Hal yang penting uncut kita
ketahui berkaitan dengan object complement ini adalah beberapa verb (kata kerja)
yang memungkinkan munculnya penggunaan object complement dalam kalimat.

Dalam contoh di atas, yang merupakan object complement adalah “their leader”. Hal
ini dikarenakan frasa “their leader” menjadi pelengkap yang memberikan keterangan

negative sentences and questions for most verbs (except not for be, will, have got and

1. Sebelum membahas mengenai soal tersebut, perlu kiranya kamu mengetahui apa itu
recount text. Dalam bahasa Inggris, recount text adalah teks yang menceritakan
tentang suatu tindakan atau aktifitas di masa lampau. Tujuan dari recount text ialah
untuk memberikan informasi atau menghibur pembaca.

Kembali pada soal, kamu bisa melihat fokus penceritaan teks tersebut ada pada si
penulis dan temannya. Hal itu dapat terlihat pada fokus cerita pada paragraf pertama.
Pada paragraf tersebut, si penulis mengisahkan pengalamannya berbelanja dengan
temannya di pusat perbelanjaan.

Pada kalimat itu didapatkan informasi bahwa penulis teks tersebut tidak dapat
menghubungi temannya karena telepon genggamnya rusak. Dengan

3. Hal yang ditanyakan pada soal tersebut mengenai topik permasalahan utama dalam
teks. Kalau kamu sudah membaca teks tersebut dengan seksama maka kamu akan
dengan mudah mendapatkan jawabannya.

kemarin. Untuk menjawabnya, kamu harus membaca secara menyeluruh isi teks.

Secara garis besar, teks tersebut menceritakan tentang hari buruk bagi penulis. Hal itu
sudah dapat kamu ketahui dari kalimat pertama paragraf pertama, yakni pada kalimat
‘I had a terrible day yesterday.’

Mengenai kejadian buruknya, kamu bisa mendapatkan kunci jawabannya pada runtut
peristiwa yang diceritakan oleh penulis. Karena pertanyaannya tentang kejadian apa
