Case Analysis 1: I could never get high enough

This is Cecilia’s story, a typical college girl who is full of innocence, hope, and dreams. Once a splendid life
shattered by the dreary reality of curiosity,peer pressure, and the thrill of living it high.

Growing Up
She grew up in Paco, Manila with her mom, dad, brother and younger sister. Her mom and dad bought a
restaurant at that time and they were always gone since it was such a demanding business. She was home alone
a lot and she could do whatever she wanted to do.

Rebellious Streak
She loved movies and she loved to role play. She idolized rockers and the hardcore lifestyle they lived and
she wanted to be a part of it.She would sneak out to parties on the weekends however that particular party she
attended was different and she vividly remember it. She was a freshman at college and the other girls invited
her to a party that would have all those gorgeous guys. She was a bit nervous and whenever a guy would talk to
her she stuttered. Then suddenly a guy approach her who captured her heart and she did not even realize he
would also take her future. He made her try drugs and since she was curious about it she was easily convinced
to give it a try. She gave him her heart and he gave him addiction.

Living it High
That little taste started her on a path of getting high at school and eventually dropping out altogether. What
she thought was a normal behaviour was not normal at all. She was out of control and addicted to drugs and all
she wanted to do was to get high and she could never get high enough. During the christmas break her parents
found out about her using drugs leading to an argument and having no exit she left home and wandered the
streets. She went to live with her boyfriend which made it easier for her to abuse the drugs without knowing she
was living on the doorsteps of death everyday. Having no money for her habit she tried to sober and she even
got a job, but started to use drugs again. She tried living a regular life but she found out that even the simplest
things were impossible, she can barely walk and she cant seem to remember her belongings. She cant eat a
decent meal and she cant sleep properly and she was severely thin because she cant take care of her self. A few
months later her parents found her and took her home.

 The things that pushed Cecilia to get involve with drugs are her curiosity and peer pressure.
She was curious about the pill and the guy whom she just met at the party easily convinced
her to try it.
2. What are its effects on her life? What can she or her family do inorder to aid her in her predicament?

 The effects of drugs on her life are it destroyed her life. She wasn’t able to finish her studies
because of drug addiction, her friends left her because she chose drugs over her friends and
she can’t even find any stable job because she’s so high and can’t work properly. Also her
health depleted.

 Send her to the rehabilitation center
 Surround herself with supportive people once she get out of rehab
 Find new hobbies to keep herself busy
 Meditate with families or her loved one

3. Suppose you are Cecilia is your friend. What pieces of advice can you give her inorder for her to take a
step towards staying away from drugs and maintaining a clean drug free life?
 If I am Cecilia’s friend, I would advice her to avoid going out at night and choose her friend’s
wisely and to not trust someone easily. I would also encourage her to instead going out with her
toxic friends why not just participate in church activities or community service. And in case she
don’t know the negative effects of drugs I will remind her.
