Artificial Intelligence: Helpful or dangerous?

Who would thought a hundred years ago that we´ll reach a point where advance machines

can imitate the behavior and intelligence of a human being, execute much difficult tasks and be

capable of performing constant updates in order to improve. Artificial Intelligence has come to a

point where incredible difficult tasks are now simpler, we use some kind of AI every single day

without even noticing, we have created very complex software that makes our lives easier.

Artificial Intelligence is here to stay, even if there are people against it because of the dangers it

can bring.

Artificial Intelligence can bring a lot of problems to our society, starting with one of the

reasons why people are more worried about, the loss of human jobs. We are starting to see how

humans are being replaced by robots in different fields, for example, the agricultural field is

starting to see a decrease in job opportunity, as there is now a possibility for a machine to do the

field work.

Privacy violation is another of the “great dangers”. With AI becoming more and more

powerful, our privacy is at risk, a software can break-in a database and gather a lot of important

information, not only personal but governmental.

The last of the few mentioned dangers can be the automation of weapons. Artificial

Intelligence can become powerful enough to plan and execute the automation of certain weapons

that can be used to create a world-wide threat. If this kind of software or machines land in the

wrong hands we could face a real threat, there is no way to link these kinds of attacks to a

person, so they would be anonymous.

at the national and international level, just to make sure that we don’t do something very foolish.

I mean with artificial intelligence we’re summoning the demon.” Elon Musk

There is no doubts that there are risks when talking about artificial intelligence, but as

with everything that we as humans have created, there is risks. If one only sees things from one

point of view then there won´t be a change in perception, so we need to evaluate the good things

that can come from AI just as we should with the bad things.

As technology evolves, we can keep creating new software to prevent cyber-attacks and

leaks of databases. One of the best examples on cybersecurity can be Technical Security

(TECHSEC).

Technical Security is a series of techniques used for authentication and protection against

theft of sensitive data and information. Mainly what this techniques does is to authenticate a

users´ data with the aim that only verified users can access different data and applications, every

organization can customize the types of services needed according to their needs.

These types of software can also help with other thinks concerning cyber-attacks and

cyber-security. Hacks or automation of weapons could be intercepted, avoiding multiple threats

with one software.

With AI not everything is a problems or solution that we can´t see, there is also things

like the loss of human jobs that we can in fact see and measure. As with every new wave of

technology there can be a loss of jobs, but there can be a lot of new jobs created as well.

According to an article published in December of 2018 by Addleton Academic Publishers

the “loss” of human jobs is not as we see it, we need to look at AI as a tool instead of a

replacement, artificial intelligence could potentially improve human effectiveness by almost 40%

by 2035 as employees can focus on more important tasks of the business instead of doing the

same repetitive thing repeatedly.

Artificial intelligence would not only help humans to be more efficient, but also could

improve the user-customer experience using the data that it provides, it could automate different

processes, reducing human error by 26%, and deliver services more quickly.

This is only a few of the things that AI could potentially bring to society, businesses,

hospitals, schools, etc.

Without going too technical and deep into the uses we could have for AI in a global scale,

we need to see it as a tool as I mentioned earlier, the amount of technology we use in our day to

day in the twenty first century is absurd, we can´t do anything nowadays without technology, so

AI is present every single day.

When we need to unlock our phones, there´s a software that does something called face

recognition, and as it sounds, it scans our face, it recognizes it and it unlocks, no one can access

our phones. The same goes when we need to check our bank account, we log into the app, face id

and that´s it, you can now see and manage your money in a fast and secure way.

We can conclude by stating the obvious, artificial intelligence is something that we know

very little, something amazing that can turn our lives for good, but yes, as with everything there

is going to be complications, there is a lot of trial and error going on, but there´s a beauty in it, if

it was easy then what?

We need to find a balance into improving and creating our future and being sure that we

aren´t putting a lot in risk, we need to take our time, don´t try to push things to far so we can

revolutionize the way we live.

So yes, artificial intelligence has come to a point where difficult tasks are now much

simpler; we have created very complex software that makes our lives easier. Artificial

intelligence is here to stay even if there´s people against it because of the dangers it could bring.
