● Static:
○ Type coordinates Latitude, Longitude, Height
○ Reference Position
○ Get Current Position button: will calculate base
position when button pressed
● Moving: base is not stationary
Static or Moving Base
● Setup Antenna type and Height in the Receiver > Position >
Sensors/Antenna Setup
● Setup the medium to deliver the corrections: Radio, Wi-Fi,
GSM, CSD, Ethernet
● Setup the type of the corrections in the I/Os section
○ Internal UHF configured in this example
Base Setup Example

CMR+ corrections to UHF

2 Static or 2 Moving Bases
Static or Moving Base
● MPS865 can setup 2 base stations within 1 receiver
● Both static, both moving, one static and one moving
● Configuration as for single base
● Antennas have to be setup as 2
Heading
Heading
● 2 GNSS antennas needed
● Main GNSS antenna connected to GNSS port 1
● Second GNSS antenna connected to GNSS port 2
● All 480 channels are used to deliver the best
possible Heading accuracy
Heading – GNSS Antennas Setup
● Baseline
○ Accuracy of heading has a linear
relationship to baseline
■ Too short baseline will result in poor
accuracy
■ For too long baselines GNSS multipath
and unit flexing will influence accuracy
■ Longer baseline length results in
longer calibration
○ 3 to 5m (9 to 15 ft) is a recommended
baseline
1-sigma values (rms)
Heading – GNSS Antennas Setup
● Baseline
○ Red line represents heading accuracy with
multipath
○ Blue line represents ideal conditions, no
multipath
○ While moving heading accuracy is less
affected by multipath while stationary
○ Heading accuracy improves when vehicle is
moving compared to stationary

1-sigma values (rms)

Heading – GNSS Antennas Setup
● Elevation Offset
○ Typically mounting both antennas at the
same height is not possible
○ Elevation Offset can be introduced to the
receiver
○ The elevation offset can not be greater than
45 degrees (or less than -45 degrees)
Heading – GNSS Antennas Setup
● Azimuth Offset
○ Ideally the antennas are installed parallel or
perpendicular to the axis of the motion
Heading – GNSS Antennas Setup
Heading
● Receiver will measure the heading angle of the vector
connecting the secondary antenna to the primary antenna
● Receiver > Position > Heading Setup
Heading
● Set Mode to Heading and Input to Internal
○ Baseline Length Type
■ Fixed: with this option, it is also possible for
the receiver to auto calibrate
● Auto-Calibration option will
automatically determine the baseline
length
■ Changing (Flex): Default. Varies over time
(due to support deformation, presence of
wind, different installation)
VRS and IBSS
Definition
● Internet Base Station Service (IBSS)
○ It allows the correction stream from an internet connected Trimble SPS base to be used by Internet
connected Rovers or Re-broadcasters
○ IBSS does not improve the RTK performance of the rover compare to using a radio
● Virtual Reference Station (VRS)
○ Network RTK solutions process the data from all the base station in the network to provide
solution with less spatial de-correction (Reduced PPM with distance)
VRS and IBSS Continued
VRS Configuration
● Receive correction via Internet

● Web Server go to Receiver > Network

○ Select: Ethernet, Wi-Fi or Modem (GSM)
○ Configure the internet connection
VRS Configuration
● Configure the NTRIP or DIRECT IP Client:
○ Receiver > I/Os > Input Setup and Output
Messages
○ In case of NTRIP Caster select
IBSS/NTRIP/DirectIP1 or IBSS/NTRIP/DirectIP2
○ Configure caster access credentials
○ Select Mount Point
○ Select Type of Message and Rate
○ Don’t forget to “Configure”
Repeater Modes
Repeater Setup – Trimble Protocols
● Receiver > Internal Radio
○ Power radio ON
○ Set channels and frequencies
○ Select any Trimble protocol that allows Trimble
repeater functionalities
○ Choose the Repeater “position”:
■ Base with 1 Repeater
■ Base with 2 Repeaters

Base Rover 1
Repeater 1 Rovers
Repeater Setup – Other Protocols
● Receiver > Internal Radio
○ Setup is the same, but user would program the
Repeater delay function
○ For this kind of setup, it is recommended to setup Tx
frequency and Rx frequency of the internal radio to
different values
■ Use Trimble Installation Manager to load those
■ or use TDLCONF software
Internal Radio
● Notice to Trimble Partners:

○ To set 450 MHz receive/transmit frequencies when not using Virtual Warehouse, Marine dealers
may get issued a USB key so that TDLCONFIG can be used in Dealer mode.
○ If you sell TDL450’s then you would have this key already. Otherwise email

Startup Protection
● User prompted for password when switching on MPS865
● Prevents unauthorized use of receiver
● Use Web Server or Front Panel to unlock the receiver
Anti-Theft
Protects your MPS865 when it is left operating unattended by rendering the receiver useless without a
password.

● At the time the anti-theft is enabled, the computed position is saved in memory and an Email/SMS
containing the Anti-Theft password is sent to the anti-theft contacts (must be in static base mode)
● If the receiver computes a position farther than 100m (default setting) a theft condition is detected
● Anti-Theft range can be modified with $PASHS commands
● Having an active Data and Voice SIM card will allow you to receive alerts
from your receiver.

● Emails contain last computed position of the base to track Current position:
47 17'57.88"N
its current location (requires SIM card) 001 30'33.25"W
● If the batteries are removed before the thief takes the
receiver, next time the receiver will be powered on, the
theft alarm will be set and the receiver will stay completely
unusable
Anti-Theft - Password Reset
● Anti-theft password lost:
○ Contact Trimble Support who will provide a receiver specific password computed with the
MPS865 serial number
○ Proof of ownership will be required
○ Use the USB OTG cable + USB drive + USB script file to unlock the receiver
○ Script file:
■ Create a text file: uploadconfig.cmd or autoconfig.cmd with the $PASHS,xxx command
delivered from the technical support
○ Set this file in the root of the USB drive
○ Power on the receiver when USB drive is connected
