Revised Analysis
Purposes:
The purpose of a definition is to inform, educate, describe, achieve, and build. The goal of the
definition is to educate the readers of what psychoanalytic theory is and how it has played a
major contribution into what we understand about psychology today. It is to inform the
significant work of Sigmund Freud who helped set the building blocks for psychotherapy.
Psychoanalysis is the first formal theory of personality. It is to describe how unconscious forces
build an understanding of past psychological work and used to comprehend human behavior. It
can be used as reference to recent studies on human behavior of a different science. For example,
Intended Readers:
The intended readers for the definition are for an undergraduate audience. It is intended for
college students interested in psychology. It is intended for psychology majors who want to gain
more insight on psychoanalytic theory. It is intended for professors who are interested in reading
about psychoanalysis.
Order of Information:
The order of information for a definition should start with a quick definition of the concept
followed by answered the four w’s: who, what, where, why, and how. I would begin with a quick
summary of what is psychoanalytic theory is. I would mention is it was founded by Sigmund
Freud and the year it took place. I would mention any major life events that took place during
this discovery. For example, the Victorian era. I would mention the significance of
psychoanalytic theory and how it has shaped psychology today. Then, I would make a
subheading of Sigmund Freud. It is important to know who he is and his work. I would mention
his family background, characteristics, and personal events. Next, I would like to add some
hyperlinks on the bottom where the reader can learn more about Sigmund Freud, psychoanalysis,
and psychotherapy.
Evidence Types:
Evidence types for the definition can be textbooks, scholarly articles, and links for additional
information. For evidence, I would like to cite school textbooks that I use for psychology. They
provide detailed information on the treatments of Sigmund Freud and his ideologies. For
example, a great textbook to cite would be Theories of Personality by Duane Schultz. He has a
chapter dedicated to the life of Freud and psychoanalytic theory. I can also cite references from
research articles on psychoanalysis. This would help build a stronger foundation for the
information I am giving. I intend to use links to sources where the readers can use to get

The style for this definition would be informal. I intend to use common language that is easy
to follow through and understand. I don’t want to use words that need to be looked up in order to
understand. I will incorporate subheadings to help break down the information and simplify the
key points. I would like use the free-wheeling approach. There is no uniform to explain
psychoanalytic theory therefore it doesn’t need to be formal. For tone, I would like to keep it
positive, calm, and respectful. It’s important to show respect for the theorist so that it keeps my
work clean. The goal of the definition is to keep the reader engaged and want to learn more so
Graphic Presentation:
model with a caption explaining what it means. I would also like to add a picture of the theorist. I
think a great image would be including a picture of Sigmund Freud so that readers can draw a
visual connection to Freud and psychoanalytic theory. I would like to include a diagram of id,
ego, and super ego and add captions. I want readers to understand how these forces work
together to make up our behavior. I would like to use bolded words and headings to really draw
