The first census in India was conducted in
the period of Lord meyo in 1872. However,
from the period of Lord Ripon, i.e., since 1881, the regular decadal census was started. Lady Teacher was the mascot of the Indian Census. 2011 which was conducted in two phase. The slogan of this Census was Our population our future. •The gap between world’s two most populous countries China and India has decreased considerably. In 2001 the gap was 23.8 crores which have come to 13 crores in 2011. •The total population of female is 58 crores 65 lakh whereas the total population of male is 62 and 37 lakhs. •The population of India has increased by 17.64% in the last decade. Within this provide the population has increased by 18 crores. •After 1911-21, this was the first decade where the increase in the population is less than the previous decade. •Male population has increased by 17% whereas female population has grown by 18%. •In census those persons are considered as literate who have attained the age of 7 years or more and are able to read and write in any language. •There is a significant growth in female literacy than that of male literacy. •Nagaland is the only state in the country where population has decreased in this decade the population growth of Nagaland is negative whereas in previous decade, Nagaland recorded the highest increase in population. •Thane, a district near Mumbai has emerged as most populous district. •Kurung Kumey (111.01%) in Arunachal Pradesh and Yanam (77.15%) district of Pondicherry has. Recorded the highest ratio of Population growth. •Longlegs (-58.39) and Kifire (-30.54%) districts of Nagaland have recorded the lowest rate of population growth. •This census has witnessed a counting of persons in 7 thousands cities and 6 lakhs village. •Caste based census was started in 1881 and it was ended in 1931. Again from 2011 caste based has been sanctioned. •First census witnessed a total 14 questions which were asked. During 2011, a total of 29 questions were asked. •First time Kinnars were included in other category, they were included neither in Female nor in Male. Population S.no.
