COLLEGE OF NURSING
ACTIVITIES
Day 1:
7:30 am, we assembled @ the Rose Garden before traveling to Quezon Hill Extension, Irisan. 8:00 am, we arrived at
our destination. While waiting for the Barangay Nutrition Scholar, purok leader and the Pastor, we had a review with
our clinical instructor, Ma'am Jhonalyn Boadilla, that addressed the typology of problems in family health. When the
aforementioned officers came, the purok leader then distributed our various subgroups to different puroks in Irisan.
8:30 am, we went to our designated areas and we did profiling, home visits, and various nursing interventions for the
families we’ve visited like monitoring vital signs and health teaching. 10:00 am, we also had the wonderful opportunity
to meet very welcome and nice church members from a nearby church who greeted us with respect and kindness. They
allowed us to use the Receiving Area of the church to execute our nursing interventions because it is easily accessible
to the community. By 1:00 pm, we finished the tasks. Despite our disparities in age, experiences, and even religion, I
thought we were all able to form genuine bonds. We were also pleasantly surprised when they offered us great food
which we then shared. we were able to help a variety of people with various health concerns and needs. We were able
to meet people with a variety of medical demands. And also surveyed those people who has insurance and those who
do not. And by 2:00 pm, we went back to the city and went home.
Day 2:
7:30 am, our whole group met in the school and the faculty had a meeting so we utilized the time to do our paper works
while we were there. 1:00 pm, I, together with my subgroup went to purok 17, Irisan to fulfil our promised follow-up
home visit with the Julian Family. We assessed whether or not they still perform the interventions and health teachings
that we told them to do, and did nursing interventions once again. 2:30 pm: when every group is done with the home
visit, we went back to the city and went home.
Day 3:
7:30 am, we assembled at the Rose Garden and then we traveled to Irisan. By 8:00 am, we’ve arrived at purok 17 where
the Julian family is and with did our home visit.
KNOWLEDGE GAINED/SKILLS/ATTITUDE ACQUIRED
I have learned that people do not always agree with the empirical arguments of science, not even when health
care providers reassure them that it will help them with their health-related problems; I have learned that some people
would prefer to endure their underlying conditions that may eventually lead to their demise; I have learned that some
people would always look for alternative medicine instead of the medicine sold at the pharmacy.
During our community duty, I have improved with my communicating skills; I learned to respect others’ beliefs
and practices; I have learned to respect the autonomy of people regarding their own medical treatment.
LEARNING INSIGHTS
I learned the significance of the idea of autonomy in our Bioethics lesson with Ma'am Geneviere Dulawan. We had a
patient who had high blood pressure and refused to take medications because the patient was afraid of ending up like
the late spouse. Because the patient declined to travel to the hospital, our clinical instructor primarily provided health
education to the patient. That day, the notion of Autonomy in Bioethics, "the right of competent adults to make sound
choices about their own medical treatment," made perfect sense.
