1. Click Options in the TRU main screen (Figure 17). The Receiver Options screen appears.
The Receiver Options screen displays the current authorization options, and enables you to upload
new OAF files.
2. Right-click in the Receiver Options screen, and click Upload OAF (Figure 18).

3. Navigate to the new OAF location on your computer, select the appropriate file, and click Open
TRU initially verifies the selected OAF file is compatible with the MC-R3. If a file not intended for the
MC-R3 is selected, an error icon appears next to the Receiver ID and the Upload the File to the
Receiver button is disabled on the Upload OAF screen.
When the OAF file is loaded onto the MC-R3, a prompt appears to reset the MC-R3, which applies to the new OAF file.

Slope Sensor and IMU Install and Calibration
The appearance of the moldboard is machine dependent, and varies significantly from machine to
machine. Check for the cylinder that pitches the moldboard forward and backward, which is useful
when locating the moldboard.
When the blade rolls forward, tilts sideways, rotates, or changes in elevation, the bracket moves with
the blade. However, the bracket does not move sideways with the blade.

3D-MC2 Software Setup
Machine Measurements
Measure the machine dimensions as shown in the machine builder of the 3DMC software. Measurements should be
as accurate as possible.
1. Place the blade on the ground, and pitch it to the most common grading position.
2. Loosen the bolts on the L-bar, and adjust the mast or vibration pole so the antenna mast is vertical.
3. Use a bubble level or plumb bob (or theodolite/total station) to ensure the antenna mast is vertical.

Initialization
Tightening the bolts at this step may skew the vertical accuracy. Adjust the machine measurements
if necessary.

5. In 3DMC, tap the Slope Control key. The Adjust Slope screen appears (Figure 32).

7. Tap Set again to save settings and stop the blade from moving (Figure 35).
Elevation Gains
Elevation gains remain the same as with standard grader systems.
Slope Gains
The slope gain setting with 3D-MC2 for Graders can be significantly higher than on a standard motor grader. This
allows the blade to move much faster and to stay on grade much more accurately.
Using slope gains that you normally use with a typical System 5 machine does not take advantage of the greater speed
of the 3D-MC2 for Graders system. Some tuning is required as all machines vary.
Entering a numerical value could cause the blade to move rapidly and unexpectedly. Use caution, and
make sure nobody is near the blade when performing the procedure.

steps 3 and 4.

5. From the Calibration results screen, tap Finish to return to the main screen.
If IMU angle offset in the Calibration Result screen is greater than five degrees, realign the IMU.
Topcon recommends an angle offset of less than five degrees for the IMU.

4. In 3DMC, tap thew Slope Control Key. The Adjust Slope screen appears (Figure 47).
If the machine is set to AUTO, the blade will move to the desired slope once you tap OK. Keep body,
hands, and feet clear of the underside of the blade.
The 4% cross slope value is displayed on the Slope Control Key (Figure 48).
Engage either the left or right Auto button to set the correct hydraulic position for the blade. If the
left Auto is engaged, mark the left cylinder for step 8. If the right Auto is engaged, mark the right
cylinder for step 8.

If the cylinder moves more than 0.01’ while pitched, additional IMU alignment is needed. Repeat the
steps in “IMU Sensor Alignment” on page 29 to ensure the IMU is properly aligned. Successfully
aligning the IMU will improve grading performance, especially under conditions where the blade is
pitched.

Safety Information
••••••
It is your responsibility to be completely familiar with the cautions described in these installation instructions.
These messages advise against the use of specific methods or procedures, which can result in personal injury,
damage to the equipment, or unsafe operating conditions. Remember, most accidents are caused by failure to
observe basic safety precautions.
General Precautions
1. Read and become familiar with the motor grader manufacturer’s operator’s manual, including safety
information, before installing or using Tocon components.
2. Use extreme caution on the job site. Working around heavy construction equipment can be dangerous.
3. DO NOT attach Topcon brackets, cables, or hose connections while the motor grader is running.
4. DO NOT allow any Topcon components to limit the visibility of the operator.
5. Use Ty-wraps to keep hoses and cables secured, and away from possible wear or pinch points.
6. Use eye protection when welding, cutting, or grinding on the machine.
7. Protect yourself at all times, and wear protective clothing when working on or near hydraulic lines. Hydraulic
lines can be under extreme pressure, even when the machine is turned off.
Relieve all pressure in the hydraulic lines before disconnecting or removing any lines, fittings, or related
components. If injury occurs, seek medical assistance immediately.
When welding, use appropriate precautions and practices. After welding, all affected areas should be
painted with a rust inhibitor.
Disconnect all Topcon system electrical cables prior to welding on the machine.
All mounting bracket welds must be secure and strong to prevent the sensor equipment from vibrating
excessively, or from detaching at the weld during operation.
