Activity 13: When Technology and Humans Cross


1. In what ways is an account holder of any social media likely to fall prey on digital dangers?
I have watched several movies that is relevant to social media and technology and that I have
observed and identified that the account holder of any social media will likely fall prey on digital
dangers like the following:
• Being exposed to:
o false information
o political polarization
• Getting emotional and mental problems
o Anxiety
o Depression
o Stress
o Loneliness
o Low self-esteem
• cyberbullying (bullying using digital technology)
• invasion of privacy
• identity theft
• seeing offensive images and messages
• the presence of strangers who may be there to ‘groom’ underage or any other

2. On a personal note, what are the advantages and disadvantages of a social media? How will
you address its negative impacts (disadvantages)

For me the advantages of social media are that it’s making the communication, and
connection more convenient, can be used for advertising products of people who has their very
own small business or starting business, provides entertainment, easy access to information,
quick up to date news information and so on and so forth that will benefit its target audience.
With its disadvantages, this includes hacking, addiction, getting mental issues, distraction, and
that it also reduces the physical or face-to-face interaction with their friends, family, and loved
ones.
I will address by creating a vlog, post, seminar or in any other way that the youth my age
would understand so that they easily interpret what I’m coming through or try to advocate for
them, with that, they will become more aware of people who are online predators and that they
become more vigilant about their surroundings and careful of using online platforms and social
media which are very prominent nowadays to the underage.
