Rest orat ion of t he Covenant

There is a revival going on around t he world. A revival wit h all t he appearance of "primit ive godliness." Not t he kind you see on t elevision, see or hear about in t he news; at least not yet . This is a quiet revival as f ar as t he world in general is concerned.
But among believers and f ollowers of I AUA ( God) and I AUshua ( Jesus) , it is as a "wildf ire in the st ubble." I t's part icipant s are t hose t hat desire t o "f ollow t he Lamb whithersoever He goet h." Could t his be Earth's last revival? I t ' s at least t he beginning of t he final call t o repent ance.
The revival is a call t o ret urn t o t he ol d pat hs given in script ure, and t o be a r epai r er of t he br each. Thus sait h t he LORD, St and ye in t he ways, and see, and ask f or t he ol d pat hs, where is t he good way, and walk t herein, and ye shall find rest f or your souls. But t hey said, We will not walk t herein. Jer. 6: 16. And t hey t hat shall be of t hee shall build t he old wast e places: t hou shalt raise up t he f oundations of many generations; and t hou shalt be called, The repai r er of t he br each, The rest or er of pat hs t o dwel l i n. I sa 58: 12
I t is at f irst a call t o repent ance, in preparat ion f or t he f inal j udgment of mankind on eart h. This revival has spread around t he world t he last f ew years, wit h a t remendous surge beginning around 2008 or 2009, evidenced by t he f lourishing of inf ormat ion, and discussion groups and f orums available on t he int ernet . The t hing t hat is most remarkable is t hat t he int ernet is t he primary vehicle f or t he flow of inf ormat ion and exchange of ideas among t hose seeking t he f ull t rut h; t he t rut h about I AUA, t he Creat or and His word. I t is t he resurgence of t he heart of t he Three Angels Message of Revelat ion 14, and t he beginning work of t he Fourt h Angel of Revelation. I t is t he t ime of I AUA's f inal j udgment on the earth.
Rev 14: 6-10 And I saw anot her angel fly in t he midst of heaven, having t he everlasting gospel to preach unt o t hem t hat dwell on t he eart h, and t o every nat ion, and kindred, and t ongue, and people, Rev 14: 7 Saying wit h a loud voice, Fear God, and gi ve gl ory t o hi m; f or t he hour of his j udgment is come: and worshi p hi m t hat made heaven, and ear t h, and t he sea, and t he f ount ai ns of wat er s. And t here followed anot her angel, saying, Babyl on i s f al l en, i s f al len, t hat great cit y, because she made all nations drink of t he wine of t he wrat h of her fornicat ion. Rev 14: 9 And t he t hird angel followed t hem, saying wit h a loud voice, I f any man worshi p t he beast and hi s i mage, and recei ve hi s mark i n hi s forehead, or i n hi s hand, t he same shal l dri nk of t he wi ne of t he wrat h of God, which is poured out wit hout mixt ure int o t he cup of his indignat ion; and he shall be t orment ed wit h fire and brimst one in t he presence of t he holy angels, and in t he presence of t he Lamb: Before the final visitation of God's judgments upon the earth, there will be, among the people of the Lord, such a revival of primitive godliness as has not been witnessed since apostolic times. I saw angels hurrying t o and fro in heaven, descending t o t he eart h, and again ascending t o heaven, preparing for t he fulfillment of some import ant event . Then I saw anot her mi ght y angel commissi oned t o descend t o t he ear t h, t o uni t e his voi ce wi t h t he t hi rd angel , and gi ve power and f orce t o hi s message. Great power and glory were impart ed t o t he angel, and as he descended, t he eart h was light ened wit h his glory. The light which at t ended t his angel penet rat ed everywhere, as he cried mightily, wit h a st rong voice, "Babylon t he great is fallen, is fallen, and is become t he habit at ion of devils, and t he hold of every foul spirit , and a cage of every unclean and hat eful bird." The message of t he f al l of Babyl on, as gi ven by t he second angel , i s repeat ed, wi t h t he addi t i onal ment i on of t he cor rupt i ons whi ch have been ent eri ng t he chur ches si nce 1844. And t he people of God are t hus prepared t o st and in t he hour of t empt at ion, which t hey are soon to meet . The world wide web has provided ways f or st udent s of script ure, and f ollowers of t he Lamb, t o connect wit h each ot her, eit her by email, websit es, f orums, discussion groups, et c. Communicat ion t echnology is responsible f or t he increase of knowledge and men running "t o and f ro." I t is, wit hout reservat ion, a sign of t he t ime of t he end.
But thou, O Dani el, shut up the words, and seal the book, e v e n to the ti me of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be i ncreased. Dan 12:4
Daniel was t old t o shut up t he words and seal his book unt il t he t ime of t he end, which began in 1798. I n t he early 1840's, Daniels words began t o come t o light and t he Millerit es began a "process of discovery." One of t he most import ant discoveries t he Millerit es made was t he sacred calendar of script ure, from which t hey were able t o det ermine t he Day of At onement in 1844, t hat of t he 10t h day of t he 7t h biblical month of script ure, which in t hat year, f ell on October 22nd. Due to the interwoven mechanics of t he sun and t he moon, this calendar of script ure is commonly ref erred t o as a "lunisolar" calendar.
Wit hout f irst discovering t his calendar, the Sanctuary doct rine, one of t he fundament al pillars of t he Sevent h Day Advent ist church may not have been revealed. Essent ially t he script ural calendar and t he sanct uary or t abernacle are t he keys t hat unlock I AUAs ent ire plan of salvation, including all of his laws essent ial to the well being of mankind. Yes, it 's about t he Ten Commandment s, but it 's about so much more. And we've been kept in the dark; unt il recently.
During t hat period of t ime, around 1844, t here was much t o be revealed. John t he Revelat or was given a vision, during which "seven t hunders" ut t ered something. But John was t old by a voice f rom heaven, t o shut up what t he seven t hunders said and not even t o writ e it down. While t he words of Daniel were being revealed, t he words of t he seven t hunders were being sealed. But why? The purpose of t his paper is t o explore t he meaning of t he seven t hunders, and of f er a plausible explanat ion of what it means for us t oday.
2 I nt r oduct i on
For over 165 years, t he ut t erances of t he Seven Thunders of Revelat ion 10 have been sealed. We would expect t o have revealed t o us, bef ore t he end of t ime, what t he messages of t he Seven Thunders are. The question remains, what were the messages of the Seven Thunders t hat John was t old not t o writ e. What do t hey mean f or us, living down at t he end of t ime. This paper will explore a very likely answer t o t he mystery of t he Seven Thunders.
While John t he Revelat or was exiled on t he I sle of Pat mos in t he lat e 1st cent ury CE, he wrot e t he book of Revelation, under divine guidance and inspiration. He was t aken in vision more than once t o t he t hrone room in Heaven, and he was also given visions of f ut ure event s t hat would occur, down near t he end of t ime in Eart h's hist ory. I t is one of t hese f ut ure visions t hat we want t o examine here. (See all of Revelat ion 10 and 11 f or complet e t ext and cont ext )
Rev 10: 3 And cried wit h a loud voice, as when a lion roaret h: and when he had cried, seven t hunders ut t er ed t hei r voi ces.

The might y angel who inst ruct ed John was no less a personage t han Jesus Christ . Set t ing His right foot on t he sea, and His left upon t he dry land, shows t he part which He is act ing in t he closing scenes of t he great cont roversy wit h Sat an. There have been mult iple st udies over t he years, at t empt ing t o ravel t he many charact erist ics and meanings of t hese verses. I n t his discussion, we only want t o deal with what the thunders are, t he sealing up of t he seven t hunders, and t heir unsealing in t he end of t ime j ust prior t o and during t he t ribulation.
3 Some not es about t he name of God
Before we begin t he j ourney of unsealing t he seven t hunders, let s examine t he name of God f or a moment , f or explanat ion of why you will see it dif f erent ly in t his paper, except f or quot ed ref erences. I t is t o honor His NAME as t he reason for t his explanat ion.
God does have a name, and He want s us t o know it and use it . His proper name has been removed f rom nearly all of script ure t oday, and is supplant ed wit h words like God, Elohim, Lord, et c. The f ollowing t ext is excerpt ed f rom a book by Richard Ruhling, t it led The Earthquake and the 7 Seals. I am indebt ed t o Richard f or t hese insight s. Proverbs 30: 4 asks, What is His name? These words reflect our need t o know. Josephus, a Jewish hist orian at t he t ime of Jerusalems destruct ion, gives us a maj or clue. He describes the high priest s golden crown, in which was engraven t he sacred name [ of God] ...I t consists of four vowels Wars of t he Jews, Book 5, Chapt er 5, Sect ion 7. Some modern aut horit ies agree. The let t ers of t he Name of God in Hebrew are yod, hay, vav, and hay. They are f requent ly mispronounced Yahveh ...[ but ] t hey are all vowels. Rabbi Lawrence Kushner, The Book of Words, Jewish Light s Publ, p. 27. Some say t hose let t ers are consonant s, but a renowned Hebrew t ext book says, Long bef ore t he introduction of vowel-signs, it was f elt that t he main vowel-sounds should be indicat ed in writ ing, and so t he t hree let t ers, yot he, hay, waw, were used t o represent long vowels A Pract ical Grammar f or Classical Hebrew, Weingreen, Oxford Universit y Press, 1959, p. 7-8. Gods name is spelled yod, hay, waw [ vav] , hay. The above t hree sources all support Gods name as f our vowels. His name is said t o be glorious. Psalm 96: 8 How? One reason is because of t he meaning of t he Hebrew let t ersyod, hay and vav t hat compose it . 1. The yod is t he f irst let t er of Gods name. I t is t he smallest Hebrew let t er and it looks like an apost rophe. As a vowel it has t he sound of i in Gloria and it means hand as in giving, receiving or ownership. 2. The second let t er of Gods name is t he hay which sounds like ah and it represent s light or rain. 3. The t hird let t er is t he vav and as a vowel sounds like oo in t oot h. I t looks like a concret e nail and has the meaning of nail or hook. The meanings of the lett ers suggest t hey are the initials of the Fat her (Genesis 22: 8) , Holy Spirit ( Genesis 1: 2) , and t he Son Psalm 2: 12; I saiah 53: 4-7. Gods name is glorious for its meaning depict ing t he role of Fat her wit h an outst ret ched hand, t he Holy Spirit as light t o guide us and t he Son nailed f or us on t he cross. The best of Hebrew t ranslit erat es Josephus st at ement of Gods name ( f our vowels ) as I AUA. I has the int ernat ional I sound as in Gloria. [ Phonet ically I AUA is ee- ah- oo -ah.] This may be one reason the Jews prof aned it --to avoid t he heathen mocking it or laughing at t hem 4 because it is so different . But you wouldnt want God t o have a name like Tom, Dick or Harry; His name must be dif f erent . The reason you might see it writ t en as YHWH, or YAHWEH, is because phonet ically, t hey sound very much t he same. Consonant s [ like b, d, k, or m] are made by obst ruct ion of air flow. Gods name has no obst ruct ion like our names or charact ers have. His name and His charact er are all flow and melody. And t he vowel t ones are pure [ not dipht hongs like ah-ee = I . This reminds us of His apocalypt ic promise t hen will I t urn t he people t o a pure language [ margin says lip] t hat t hey may all call upon t he name of I AUA. Zephaniah 3: 9. The f irst t wo let t ers (I A= ee-ah) were part of many Hebrew namest he prophet s oft en came in Gods name like JeremI A or ZecharI A, and we should pronounce t he i like ee as t hey do in most count ries. Elij ah was pronounced el-ee-ah, because t here is no J in Hebrew. So Elia means El [ short f orm of Elohim, meaning God] is I A. Women named Maria or Gloria have t he short poet ic f orm of Gods name ( I A) as part of t heir name. Count ries like SyrI A or SamarI A also have Gods name as part of t heirs. HalleluI A is an int ernat ional word meaning Praise I A in most languages. You can read t his short f orm of Gods name in Psalm 68: 4, except t ranslat ors supplant ed t he Hebrew yod wit h J making it Jah, where it should be I A [ ee-ah] . Bef ore t he second coming, Elias t ruly shall first come, and rest ore all t hings. Mat t hew 17: 11. Since Gods name means salvation, it st ands t o reason t hat His name will also be rest ored t o its right ful place in t he end t ime. I t is our privilege t o share in t his work of Elij ah.
Gods name is a subj ect all unt o itself , but having given some basic explanation, we will leave it at t hat f or now. I n t his discourse, your will find t he proper names of God as I AUA, and Jesus as I AUshua.
Rest or at i on of t he Covenant Preparing for t he Bridegroom
What I AUA did on Mt Sinai was present a covenant , in which he asked t he I sraelit es 3 t imes if t hey would accept it . "All t hat t he Lord has said, we will do." But t his is about more t han doing. This is about accept ing t he t erms of t he "ket ubah," or " marr iage cont ract . " Will t he br ide agr ee t o accept t he t er ms pr esent ed by t he br idegroom. I AUA, as t he fat her , is t he go- bet ween, bet ween t he br ide, and His son I AUshua. I t is, in a sense, I AUshua asking us t o marry Him.
I n Bible t imes, a young man looking t o be married would give t he young lady t hat he hoped t o be his br ide a Ket ubah, which was a very beaut iful covenant cont r act for mar r iage. I t was wr it t en wit h gr eat car e and for et hought and given t o her at a special dinner planned by her family. Writ t en on t his Ket ubah Covenant was t his young mans heart s desire; of how he loves and adores t he young woman he hoped would be His bride; of his promises t o her of all t hat he would be and how he would pr ot ect and provide for her ; as well as his likes and dislikes, his favor it e foods, his highest ideals, his st andar d of living, how he want ed his household r un and his 5 childr en r aised. This covenant was basically, The Bluepr int for t he Br ide. From Bluepr int f or t he Bride of Chr ist , Pam Bent on.
The biblical wedding ser vice t hat God gave marr iage consist ed of t hr ee st ages. The fir st st age is bet r ot hal. You ent er t his fir st st age of mar r iage as soon as a bet r ot hal cont r act is made bet ween t he t wo part ies. During bet rot hal, you are legally marr ied, but do not physically dwell wit h your mat e. The word for bet r ot hal in Hebr ew, ' er usin' , comes fr om t he Hebr ew ver b ' aras' . Ar as is r elat ed t o t he Hebr ew word ' asar' , which means "t o bind". By t his, we can see t hat bet rot hal is legally binding.
Bet r ot hal is also ment ioned in Exodus 21: 8 and Deut eronomy 20: 7 and 22: 23,24. The t hr ee phases t o a Hebr ew mar r iage: t he bet r ot hal, t he wedding and t he celebr at ion ar e r ealized in t he r elat ionship bet ween t he childr en of I sr ael and I AUshua. This t r ut h ser ves as a perpet ual illust r at ion of how t he br ide ( I sr ael) is chosen by her Br idegr oom ( I AUshua) , is set - apar t for Him ( in her depar t ur e fr om Egypt / t he wor ld syst em) , and is led t o her bet r ot hal by t he Holy Spir it / Ruach HaKodesh. I n pr epar at ion, she r emoves any soiled gar ment s ( sinful nat ur e) , bat hes herself, t hen dresses in pur e spot less robes ( r ight eousness) , and comes under t he chuppah in agreement t o t he marriage covenant wit h her Bridegroom. There she says, I will obey ( Exodus 19: 5- 6; 20: 1- 17) . I n Ex 19: 10- 11, t he br ide is t o make herself ready. "And t he LORD said unt o Moses, Go unt o t he people, and sanct ify t hem t o day and t o mor r ow, and let t hem wash t heir clot hes, And be r eady against t he t hird day: for t he t hird day t he LORD will come down in t he sight of all t he people upon mount Sinai."
I n Exodus 19, when God, by t he leading of Moses, brought t he childr en of I sr ael t o Mount Sinai, He was making a bet rot hal cont r act wit h I srael. The wr it t en bet rot hal cont r act repr esent s "The book of t he covenant " ( marr iage is a covenant ) t hat Moses wr ot e prior t o t he revelat ion at Mount Sinai ( Exodus 24: 4,7) . The Book of t he Covenant spelled out mut ual obligat ions of God and I srael j ust as t he bet rot hal cont r act spelled out t he obligat ions bet ween husband and wife. So, God made a marr iage cont ract wit h I sr ael in Exodus 19: 3- 7.
I n Exodus 19: 8, I sr ael accept s God' s mar r iage pr oposal. I sr ael answer ed " All t hat t he Lor d hat h spoken we will do."
Moses wrot e out t he marr iage covenant ( Exodus 19- 24) . I t was t his t est imony given t o him by I AUA t hat showed t he br ide how t o live out her lif e wit h her Br idegroom. Moses gave t his wr it t en copy, called a ket ubah in Hebr ew, t o t he br ide for her t o keep as a remembrance of t heir vows. This copy of t he vows, t he ket ubah, can also be ident ified as t he Tor ah, t he five books of Moses, or , in a fuller sense, t he whole Word of God.
At t he end of t he discussion of t he bet rot hal on Mt Sinai, t he agreement is set in st one. And here begins t he t ragedy of broken covenant s. All I AUshua want s is a br ide, t hat will willingly be in r elat ionship wit h Him and Him only. May we all come t o a fullness of underst anding of t he covenant , as we must complet ely under st and t he covenant , befor e we can ent er int o it . 6
Now, let s see how t he covenant is relat ed t o t he seven t hunders.
When wer e t he seven t hunder s hear d by John?
John's vision t akes him down t hrough t he mainst ream of time to the 19th cent ury, over 1700 years int o t he f ut ure from his day. According t o Sevent h Day Advent ist hist ory, t he seven t hunders began t o ut t er t heir voices on or about Oct ober 22 1844. I t was during t he Advent movement of 1844 the Sanctuary doct rine was revealed, which became one of the most import ant f oundat ional pillars of t he SDA church. This is point ed out in Revelation 11: 19, and is t he key t o I AUA 's ent ire divine plan as revealed t o us in His script ures. I n 1844, I AUA began t he process of revealing all of His plan to modern I srael. Unf ort unat ely, it appears t he process was never complet ely f ulfilled, as we are st ill here, and Jesus ( I AUshua) has not ret urned.
I t was around t his t ime in 1844 t hat t he seven t hunders began t o ut t er t heir voices. John was apparent ly going t o writ e what t he seven t hunders said, when he was t old, by a voice f rom heaven, t o seal up and not writ e what t he seven t hunders ut t ered. Why? As we will see in t his discussion, all of I AUA 's plan had not been complet ely revealed yet , f or t he end days. I n 1844, t he 7t h day Sabbat h had not yet been reveal ed, and it is part of I AUA 's divine plan forever. Considering t hat t he 7t h Day Sabbat h had not yet been revealed, what else might we look for t hat had not yet been revealed?
Ellen Whit e provides some insight int o these events:
Aft er t hese seven t hunders ut t ered t heir voices, t he inj unct ion came t o John as t o Daniel in regard t o t he lit t le book: Seal up t hose t hings which t he seven t hunders ut t ered. These r el at e t o* f ut ure event s whi ch wi l l be di scl osed i n t hei r order. 7 SDABC pg.971 par. 4: (* Not e: relat e to; NOT, are fut ure event s.)
The special light given t o John which was expressed in t he seven t hunders was a del i neat i on of event s whi ch woul d t r anspi r e under t he f i r st and second angels messages. I t was not best for t he people t o know t hese t hings, for t heir fait h must necessarily be t est ed. I n t he order of God most wonderful and advanced t rut hs would be proclaimed. The fi rst and second angel s messages were t o be proclaimed, but no f urt her l i ght was t o be reveal ed bef ore t hese messages had done t hei r speci f i c work. This is represent ed by t he angel st anding wit h one foot on t he sea, proclaiming wit h a most solemn oat h t hat t ime should be no longer. 7 SDABC pg.971 par. 6.
Summarizing what Ellen Whit e wrote, we are t old t hat t he seven t hunders rel at ed t o f ut ure event s ( f ut ure f rom 1844-writ t en in 1890) , t hat t hey are a del i neat i on of event s whi ch woul d t r anspi r e under t he 1st and 2nd Angel s messages, and t hat no f urt her light regarding t he seven t hunders was t o be revealed at t hat t ime ( 1844) . We are lef t wit h t he assumpt ion t hat t he messages of t he Seven Thunders would be revealed somet ime in t he f ut ure. St rangely, it appears t hat Ellen Whit e didn't have anyt hing to say about t he 7 Thunders during t he great crisis of t he 1888 period.

We f ind many examples in script ure and relat ed comment aries, indicat ing t hat t hunder i s heard as t he voi ce of I AUA. Thunders in script ure represent at least t hree primary t hemes;
decree or covenant mercy j udgment .
Let ' s t ake a closer look and see when t hunders appear in t he script ures, and what t hey represent .
Thunder i n t he Gar den of Eden: ( broken covenant ; j udgment , mercy)
The first t ime we encount er t hunder as t he voi ce of I AUA in script ure is in t he Garden of Eden. Alt hough t he word "voice" is used, it is t he same Hebrew word f or "t hunder."
Gen 3: 7-10 And the eyes of them both were opened, and t hey knew t hat t hey w e r e naked; and they sewed f i g l eaves t oget her , and made t hemsel ves apr ons. And t hey heard t he voi ce [ t hunder] of t he LORD God walking in t he garden in t he cool of t he day: and Adam and his wife hid t hemselves from t he presence of t he LORD God amongst t he t rees of t he garden. And t he LORD God called unt o Adam, and said unt o him, Where art t hou? And he said, I heard t hy voi ce [ t hunder] in t he garden, and I was af rai d, because I was naked; and I hi d mysel f .
Here we see and hear I AUA's voice as t hunder, as His covenant is broken. We might assume t hat since t he covenant / law had been broken at t his point , t hat t his t ime I AUA's voice is heard, it is about j udgment . But it may f irst be about mercy. Not ice t hat Adam and Eve clot hed t hemselves with vegetation, but I AUA clothed t hem with skins. Here begins I AUA's plan of redempt ion for man, in t he f irst example resembling sacrifice.
Not ice t he correlat ion of Adam and Eve in Genesis, in t he Garden when t hey were naked and ashamed, and I AUA clot hed t hem wit h skins, compared t o t he Book of Revelat ion, where I AUA wants t o clothe us inst ead with His righteousness,

Thunders make t heir next appearance in script ure, j ust bef ore t he Exodus of t he I sraelit es f rom 400+ years of slavery in Egypt . I AUA sent t he plagues on t he Egypt ians as a f orm of j udgment because of t heir enslavement of t he I sraelit es, t o convince Pharoah t o let t he people go; t o release t hem from slavery.
Exo 9: 23 And Moses st ret ched fort h his rod t oward heaven: and t he LORD sent t hunder and hail, and t he fire ran along upon t he ground; and t he LORD rained hail upon t he land of Egypt .
Exo 9: 2) I nt reat t he LORD (for it is enough) t hat t here be no more might y t hunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall st ay no longer.
Exo 9: 2) And Moses said unt o him, As soon as I am gone out of t he cit y, I will spread abroad my hands unt o t he LORD; and t he t hunder shall cease, neit her shall t here be any more hail; t hat t hou mayest know how t hat t he eart h is t he LORD'S.
Exo 9: 33 And Moses went out of t he cit y from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unt o t he LORD: and t he t hunders and hail ceased, and t he rain was not poured upon t he eart h.
Exo 9: 3) And when Pharaoh saw t hat t he rain and t he hail and t he t hunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart , he and his servant.
Thunder s at Mt Si nai : (Decree or Covenant ; legal dispensat ion; divine power and aut horit y)
Next , we encount er t he voice of I AUA in probably what is t he most significant display of His voice as t hunder in all of script ure, when t he Law or Covenant is given in its ent iret y at Mt Sinai.
Exo 19: 16 And it came t o pass on t he t hird day in t he morning, t hat t here were t hunder s and li ght nings, and a t hick cloud upon t he mount , and t he voice of t he t rumpet exceeding loud; so t hat all t he people t hat was in t he camp t rembled.
Exo 20: 18 And all t he people saw t he t hunderi ngs, and t he l i ght nings, and t he noise of t he t rumpet , and t he mount ain smoking: and when the people saw it , t hey removed, and st ood afar off.
Here, amidst t he overwhelming and awesome display of nat ure on Mt . Sinai, we hear t he voice of I AUA as t hunder, as He offers His covenant , or decree; t he legal dispensat ion, if you will, of t he overall law of I AUA.

Spur geon, in one of his sermons, ref ers t o t he "t hunders of t he l aw." Here is an excerpt f rom his sermon No 87 regarding t hunders;
There is one st riking proof I would offer t o you, t hat the t hunder i s t he voi ce of God; and t hat is t he fact , t hat when God spake on Si nai , and gave f ort h Hi s l aw, His voice is t hen described, if not in t he first passage, yet in t he reference t o it , as being great t hunder s. "There were t hunders and light nings, exceedingly loud and long." God spoke t hen, and He spoke so t erribly in t hunder, t hat the people request ed t hat t hey might hear t hat voice no more. And I must refer you to one passage in t he New Test ament, which will bear me out t horoughly in describing t he t hunder t o be, indeed, t he voice of God; and t hat is in t he 11t h chapt er of t he Gospel according t o St . John, where Jesus lift ed up his voice t o heaven at t he t omb of Lazarus, and asked his Fat her t o answer him; and t hen a voice came from heaven, and they t hat st ood by said, " t hat i t t hunder ed; " i t was t he voi ce of God whi ch was t hen heard, and t hey ascri bed i t t o t he t hunder. Here is a remarkable proof when God's voice has been heard on any remarkable occasion, it has always been accompanied by t he sound of t hunder, or, rat her, has been t he sound of t hunder it self. The Maj est ic Voice-Thunder, Spurgeon Sermon 87
Mt Sinai is probably the most out st anding demonst ration of t hunders seen t hroughout script ure, except possibly for t he end of eart h's hist ory, when t he Seven Thunders are f inally revealed.
At Sinai, another principle of t hunders is demonst rated; t hat of decree or covenant ; t he gi vi ng of t he Law or Torah. Sinai represents t he giving of the whol e law of I AUA, beginning with t he Ten Commandment s. The t ot al cont ent of t he law given at Sinai, includes all t he st at ut es, commandments, and j udgments, as well as the Ten Commandment s. The t otal number of laws given at Sinai, including t he Ten Commandments, totals 613. They are comprised of t he 7t h Day Sabbat h, t he Sanct uary doct rine, laws regarding how t o live among our f ellow human beings, the diet and healt h laws, tit he and f inance, t he sacrificial syst em, including all sacrifices, oblations and of f erings.
1 2 Also detailed in I AUAs divine plan, are all the set-apart or "appointed t imes," His "f east" days, or as t he Hebrew word declares, His "moeds." This includes t he 7 t h day Sabbat h, as out lined t hroughout t he Book of t he Law or t he Book of Moses, given by I AUA. I t is I AUA's compl et e law f or t he benef it of humanit y. The Book of Moses, or t he Law, i s essent i al l y t he " how- t o" or i nst r uct i on manual f or t he Ten Commandment s, detailing how humanit y should live t o be in harmony wit h I AUA, our f ellow human beings, and all of nat ure.
We need to consider there is more involved in t his scenario than simply the ten commandment s. The reason to consider t his possibilit y is because this scenario relates to the t ime of t he end, t he Three Angels Messages, and t he "r est i t ut i on ( or r est or at i on) of al l t hi ngs."
Ellen Whit e reminds us of this f act:
"I n t he t ime of t he end, EVERY di vi ne i nst i t ut i on is to be rest ored. The breach made in t he law at t he t ime t he Sabbat h was changed by man, is t o be repaired." PK 678

The 10 commandment s, engraved in st one by t he f inger of I AUA, were placed in t he Ark of t he Test ament, while all t he laws, including the 10 commandments, all given by I AUA t o Moses, were writ t en in t he Book of t he Law and pl aced i n t he si de of t he Ark. This was so t he people had access t o t he ent ire law as t hey were forbidden t o t ouch t he Ark of t he Test ament .

Moab: Bor der s of t he Pr omi sed Land Renewing t he Covenant aft er 40 years in t he Wilderness
Af t er 40 years of wandering in t he wilderness, because of disobedience, idolat ry, rebellion, and out right sin, t he I sraelit es were camped on t he plains of Moab, on t he east side of t he Jordan River, j ust across t he river from t he promised land of Canaan. I t was f rom t hese plains t hat Moses would repeat and reconf irm I AUAs covenant wit h t hem.
At Sinai, I AUA spoke di r ect l y t o I srael and called t he nat ion his f irst born son (Ex 4: 22) and a kingdom of priest s Ex 19: 6) . The covenant at Sinai, (see Ex 19-24) was rat ified t hen broken by t he apost asy of t he golden calf ( Ex 32; Num 12-14, 25: 1-18) , af t er which t he I sraelit es were placed under t he clerical supervision of priest s and Levit es ( Ex 34-40; Lev 1-26) . Owing t o st ubborn persist ent disobedience, t he I sraelit es were f orced t o spend f ort y years in t he wilderness as punishment and t o prevent t he ent ry of the f irst generation int o the Promised Land. Yet t he second generat ion f ell int o idolat rous apost asy again at Bet h-peor in Moab. Af t er t hat , t he covenant of Deut eronomy was inst it ut ed.
Deut eronomy makes a clear dist inction bet ween t he covenant at Sinai (or Horeb) and t he lat er covenant in Moab; These are t he words of t he covenant which t he Lord commanded Moses t o make wit h t he people of I srael in t he land of Moab, besides t he covenant which he had made wit h t hem at Horeb. Deut 29: 1. Whereas I AUA spoke direct ly t o t he people at Sinai, He now spoke only t hrough Moses at Moab.
1 4 The repeat ed apost asy of I srael made t he second covenant very different from t he first . The idolat ry of t he golden calf ( Ex 32) , and again in Moab ( Num 25) , showed t hat I srael was not yet ready to assume t he responsibilit ies of being a priestly kingdom. As a result , the laws in Deut eronomy had t o make concessions t o I sraels unholiness. I gave t hem st at ut es t hat were not good, and ordinances by which t hey could not have lif e, I AUA says in Ezek 20: 25. This st art ling declarat ion comes af t er a summary of t he covenant and rebellion in t he wilderness, t he point being t hat some of the laws in Deut eronomy made concessions t o I sraels sinful nature. This same idea underlies I AUshua t eaching on Deut eronomys legal provision f or divorce: Mat 19:8 He sait h unt o t hem, Moses because of t he hardness of your heart s suff ered you t o put away your wives: but f rom t he beginning it was not so.
So we see much of Deut eronomy as t he f allout from t he apost asy in t he wilderness. Deut eronomy lowers t he bar of moral expect at ion for a people st ruggling wit h weakness. Divorce is not good, but it must be regulat ed t o prevent even worse abuses (Deut 24: 1) . The wars of ext erminat ion in Canaan were not good, but were made necessary by I sraels const ant at t ract ion t o t he abominable idols of her neighbors ( Deut 20: 16-16; Mat t 5: 43-44) . The Lord alone is King ( Deut 33: 5; 1Sam 8: 4-7) , and eart hly kings are not good ( 1Sam 8: 10- 18) , but t he I sraelit es would demand one anyway (Deut 17: 14-20). The principle behind t hese concessions was t o prevent , if possible, t he worst excesses of evil by permit t ing lesser ones.
So t his was t he condit ion of t he chosen people as t hey prepared t o ent er t he promised land.
What Changed At Cal var y? What was done away wit h, and what wasn't !
What happened bef or e Cal var y?
Bef ore t ime was, I AUA was. I AUAs nat ure is perfect , inviolat e, great er t han any ot her. He was ( and is) Justice, and His syst em was, and is, unchangeable. Then, about 6000 or so years ago, I AUA creat ed man.
Event ually man sinned, violating I AUAs syst em of j ustice. I AUA's syst em demands j ust ice. There was no way t o avoid His j ust ice. And now man was under condemnat ion. His legal nature demanded t he penal t y of deat h f or di sobedi ence.
I AUshua l egal l y pai d t he j ust penal t y f or t hat si n agai nst I AUA. I AUshua, and only I AUshua, was t he One in all t he universe who was able t o legally pay t he penalt y on our behalf . Because of the deat h of I AUshua at Calvary, I AUAs legal syst em of j ust ice is now able to legally f orgive our debt of sin, and f orgive us - once and f or all, f or all our t ransgressions - bef ore I AUA!
Forgiveness by I AUA is a legal act within His Holy Just ice. I AUshua deat h and resurrection provides t hat legalit y. No ot her way is given t o man by which he can be freed f rom t he condemnation of I AUA f or his sins. Only those that accept I AUAs j ustificat ion through I AUshua will ever be accept ed by I AUA, because t hat is part of his legal j ust ice syst em.
1 5 Only t he blood of I AUshua was, and is, accept ed by I AUA t o legally f orgive a person. Ot herwise man remains under condemnat ion. Only I AUshua is suf ficient as the t otal subst it ut e f or all t he punishment we legally deserve bef ore I AUA. I AUshua is t he expiat ion, t he only appropriat e amends bef ore Almight y I AUA, Creat or of all. I AUA provides t his way out f or us. And I AUshua "paid it all."
Messi ahs Bapt i sm Even sat an hears t he voice of I AUA as t hunder
Sat an was present at t he t ime when Christ present ed himself t o John for baptism. He heard t he maj est i c voi ce resounding t hrough Heaven and echoing t hrough t he eart h like peal s of t hunder. He saw t he li ght nings flash from t he cloudless heavens, and heard t he f earf ul words f rom Jehovah, " Thi s i s my bel oved Son, i n whom I am wel l pl eased." He saw t he bright ness of t he Fat her's glory overshadowing t he form of I AUshua, t hus point ing out in t hat crowd t he One whom he acknowledged as his Son wit h unmist akable assurance. The circumst ances connect ed wit h t his bapt ismal scene had aroused t he most int ense hat red in t he breast of Sat an. He knew t hen for a cert aint y t hat unless he could overcome Christ , from t hencefort h t here would be a limit ation of his power. He underst ood t hat t he communicat ion from t he t hrone of God signified t hat Heaven was more direct ly accessible t o man. { ST, April 5, 1883 par. 6}
What happened wi t h t he penal t y of deat h f or di sobedi ence Bef or e Cal var y?
Prior t o I AUshua' deat h, I AUA had devised a way for man t o at one f or his sins. I t was known as t he ceremonial or sacrificial syst em, and was part of t he service of t he Sanct uary or Tabernacle. This specifically det ailed syst em, was set up by I AUA f or man t o have a way t o commune wit h Him, and f or man t o at one f or his sin and disobedience. An elaborat e syst em of sacrifices, oblat ions and of f erings in t he Sanct uary provided a way f or man t o of f er up t o I AUA, his at t empt at repent ance and reformat ion. This syst em worked f or hundreds of years, as it paved t he way f or I AUshua t o ult imat ely pay t he f ull price f or sin and disobedience f or each one of us. The blood of sacrificed animals subst it ut ed f or t he blood of I AUshua, which was t o come at Calvary.
What Was Compl et ed or Done Away Wi t h At Cal var y?
When I AUshua died at Calvary, he paid t he ult imat e price f or sin, t he penalt y of deat h f or man, as a result of sin and disobedience. When he died, and t he veil in t he t emple was rent , t he price was paid, and t he ceremonial law, i.e. t he sacrifices and oblat ions, were ended. There was no longer any need f or sacrifices t o t ake place in t he t emple, as part of man's part t o at one f or his sin and disobedience. I AUshua now replaced t hat system wit h His own sacrifice.
Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm t he covenant wit h many for one week: and in t he midst of t he week he shall cause t he sacri f i ce and t he obl at i on t o cease, and for t he overspreading of abominat ions he shall make it desolat e, even unt il t he consummat ion, and t hat det ermined shall be poured upon t he desolat e.

When the sacrif icial syst em was fulf illed with the f irst coming of I AUshua t hrough His sacrifice at Calvary, He made provision for anot her covering; t he Robe of Hi s Ri ght eousness;
Rev 3: 17-21 "Because t hou sayest , I am rich, and increased wit h goods, and have need of not hing; and knowest not t hat t hou art wret ched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel t hee t o buy of me gold t ried in t he fire, t hat t hou mayest be rich; and whi t e r ai ment , t hat t hou mayest be cl ot hed, and t hat t he shame of t hy nakedness do not appear; and anoint t hine eyes with eyesalve, t hat t hou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chast en: be zealous t herefore, and repent . Behold, I st and at t he door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open t he door, I will come in t o him, and will sup wit h him, and he wit h me. To him t hat overcomet h will I grant t o sit wit h me in my t hrone, even as I also overcame, and am set down wit h my Fat her in his t hrone." No longer were t he skins of t he sacrificial syst em required. I AUshua provided a bet t er and more sure way.
1 7 I AUA's Law, in any respect , was not done away wit h at Calvary. The onl y t hi ng t hat changed at Cal vary, was t he way i n whi ch si n and di sobedi ence was deal t wi t h and at oned f or. Not hi ng el se. I AUA's law remains in ef f ect t oday, and t hose t hat love Him, and desire t o f ollow t he Lamb whit hersoever He goet h, will obey His commandments; ALL of t hem.
What Was Fi ni shed at t he Cross; and What Wasn't ? Quest ions t hat demand answers
I t is generally believed t oday t hat much of what is called t he "old covenant " was finished at t he cross. I t is believed t hat I AUshua eliminat ed cert ain aspect s of t he covenant wit h His people, and t hat much of what is called t he "old covenant " is no longer required. I t is usually ref erred t o as t he ceremonial law or syst em. But t here is much more t hat is involved, and f or t he most part , misunderst ood. The ceremonial law is part of a much larger pict ure.
I n general, it is also believed t hat sat urday as t he 7t h Day Sabbat h was/ is not part of t he old covenant or ceremonial syst em. I n order t o support or sust ain t hat belief , proponent s of t his t heory must excise, or remove, t he 7t h Day Sabbat h f rom t he list of I AUA's appoint ed t imes in Lev 23. I n t his account of "feast s," or appoint ed t imes, I AUA gives us t he Holy Days t hat are part of His covenant wit h mankind. The 7t h Day Sabbat h is list ed as t he f irst of t hose appointment s. There is no script ural inst ruction t o remove t his special day f rom t he list and appoint it t o anot her t ime and place, and on anot her calendar t hat isnt ordained of I AUA. This is simply man's doing, of "changing t imes and laws." Daniel 7: 25
Are t hese belief s act ually t rue? I n realit y, much of what is t hought t o be done away wit h, remains as part of I AUA's covenant f or His last day people and plan. Let 's examine what Ellen Whit e has t o say in t his regard.
What Wasnt Done Away Wi t h At Cal vary?
I n many places in her writ ings, Ellen Whit e makes it very clear t hat t he st at ut es, j udgments, f east s, or appointed t imes, as well as the Ten Commandment s were not done away wit h at Calvary.
I n consequence of cont inual t r ansgr ession, t he mor al law was r epeat ed in awful gr andeur fr om Sinai. Christ gave t o Moses r el i gi ou s pr ecept s w hi ch w er e t o gover n t he ever yday l i f e. These st at ut es w er e ex pl i ci t l y gi ven t o guar d t he t en commandment s. These commands were enforced by t he power of t he moral law, and t hey clearly and definit ely explained t hat law. Christ speaks t o such: " Not every one t hat sait h unt o me, Lord, Lord, shall ent er int o t he kingdom of Heaven; but he t hat doet h t he will of my Fat her which is in Heaven." What i s t he wi l l of t he Fat her? That we keep hi s commandment s. Chri st , t o enfor ce t he wi ll of hi s Fat her , became t he aut hor of t he st at ut es and precept s gi ven t hrough Moses t o t he peopl e of God. Christ ians who ext ol Christ , but array t hemselves against t he law governing t he Jewish church, array Christ against Christ . { RH, May 6, 1875}

The light est eem in which t he law of God is held, even by religious leaders, has been product ive of great evil. The t eachi ng whi ch has become so wi despread, t hat t he di vi ne st at ut es are no l onger bi ndi ng upon men, i s t he same as i dol at ry i n i t s ef f ect upon t he moral s of t he peopl e. Dest r oyed f or Lack of Knowl edge: God's favor toward I srael had always been condit ional on t heir obedience. At t he foot of Sinai t hey had ent ered int o covenant relat ionship wit h Him as His "peculiar t reasure. . . above all people." Solemnly t hey had promised to follow in t he pat h of obedience. At t he rat ification of t he covenant , t he people had once more unit ed in declaring, "All t hat t he Lord hat h said will we do, and be obedient ," Exodus 24: 3, 7. I f we t hink most of I AUAs divine plan has been done away wit h, t here are some quest ions t hat we need t o ask bef ore making a final decision.
Quest i ons t hat must be answer ed
I f t he 7t h Day Sabbat h was not part of t he feast s or ceremonial syst em, why were sacrifices required (Num 28: 9-10) ? I f sacrifices were required on 7t h Day Sabbat hs, why wasn't t he 7t h Day Sabbat h done away wit h when t he sacrif ices were?
Since the Sabbath is t he f irst it em in t he list of appointed t imes or f east s in Levit icus 23, why is it not included wit h t he rest of t he f east s on t he same cal endar t he f east s are on.
I f Sat urday is t he t rue 7t h Day Sabbat h, why would I AUA give specific det ailed inst ruct ions t o Moses regarding EVERYTHI NG except how t o f ind sat urday as t he 7th day in script ure?
I f New Moon Day is not a biblically recognized day, why were t here specific sacrifices f or new moon day?
I f new moon day has no relevance t oday, why is it ment ioned in I sa 66: 23, indicating a f uture applicat ion, along with t he 7 t h day Sabbat h?
I f freewill and t hank off erings were done away wit h as part of ceremonial system, why are t hey still claimed t oday?
I f t he healt h and diet ary laws were part of t he ceremonial syst em, why are t hey st ill being applied t oday?
I f t it hing is part of the old ceremonial syst em, why is it st ill claimed t oday?
I f all of t he old covenant was done away wit h, why have churches and inst itut ions spent so much t ime and energy studying and writing about it . Cert ainly not j ust t o prove it was done away wit h.
2 0 What Was Reveal ed i n 1844 The Millerit es and t he Seven Thunders
"I n t he t ime of t he end, every di vi ne inst i t ut i on is to be rest ored. The breach made in t he law at t he time t he Sabbat h was changed by man, [ changed, not subst it ut ed] is t o be repaired." PK 678
The Begi nni ng of Rest or at i on
The restit ution, or restoration of all t hings began in 1840-1844. Unf ort unat ely, t he process t hat was begun and was highlight ed ( delineat ion of event s) in 1844, f ailed t o be complet ed. We are now over 165 years furt her down t he road of hist ory f rom t hat t ime. We need t o examine what was being revealed, and what might have been missed. We must ask t he quest ion, what does "every divine instit ution" mean? Does it mean more than simply t he 7t h Day Sabbath, and t he Ten Commandment s.
We must also ask the same question of 1888. Several t imes during t hat moment ous t ime in hist ory, Ellen Whit e st at ed t hat "t he Lord would have come ere t his." Amidst t he message of Right eousness by Faith in 1888, was somet hing missed; an incomplete message if you will. We have t o assume t his due t o t he fact we are st ill here, and I AUshua has not ret urned. Aft er t he early 1900's, she had lit t le more t o say about t he 2nd coming. And we are now over 120 years well past ere t his.
What Was Reveal ed t o t he Mi l l eri t es; and What Di d They Mi ss?
The Sanct uary doct rine, one of the primary pillars of Advent ism, was revealed t o the Millerit es in 1844. But it was not simply t he sanct uary or t abernacle t hat was being revealed. I t involved so much more. I t was I AUA's overall plan f or mankind, which included His appoint ed t imes, f easts, or moeds, dietary and health laws, statut es and j udgment s, lif est yles for living, et c. I t was f or t he benef it of all mankind t hat I AUA int ended t o reveal His ent ire plan t o t he Millerit es. I n a nut shell, I AUA was about t o reveal or r est ore everything t hat was init ially given at Sinai. And His Sacred calendar is at t he core of His ent ire plan.
"As t he t emple of God was opened unt o His people, t he light of t he law of God, which was in t he ark, shone fort h. Those who received t his light are brought t o view in t he proclamat ion of t he t hird angel's message." (4BC 1152) "Therefore t he announcement t hat t he t empl e of God was opened i n heaven and t he ark of Hi s t est ament was seen poi nt s t o t he opening of t he most Hol y Pl ace of t he heavenl y sanct uary i n 1844 as Chri st ent ered t here t o perf orm t he cl osi ng wor k of t he at onement . Those who by fait h followed t heir great High Priest as He ent ered upon His minist ry in t he Most Holy beheld t he ark of His t est ament . (GC 433-434)
1844: Advent i sm at Mt Si nai " ( Coming out of Egypt : heading f or the promised land)
I n t he 1840' s, t he biblical lunisolar calendar was one of t he f irst part s of I AUA's divine plan t o be revealed t o t he Millerit es, in order t hat t hey could det ermine t he Day of At onement . This calendar would event ually lead t hem t o t he discovery of t he Sanct uary doct rine, or t he t abernacle in Heaven. (See Hebrews 9) 2 1 Just before t he I sraelit es were f reed f rom slavery in Egypt , I AUA began t o rest ore His sacred calendar t o t hem. This was in t he 1st mont h of t he year of t he Exodus. Beginning in t he 3rd mont h of t he Exodus, I AUA began rest oring His complet e law t o t hem. First t he calendar; t hen t he law. But bef ore Sinai, t he f irst it em on t he agenda of rest orat ion was t he Sabbat h. The 7t h day Sabbat h was reinst it ut ed wit h t hem in t he 2nd mont h of t he exodus, as det ailed in Exodus 16 in t he account of t he quail and t he manna. . . . . t hat I may prove t hem, whet her t hey will walk in my law, or no. Ex 16: 4. The parallel t o Advent ism is highly remarkable, in t hat it was t he rest oring of the sacred calendar, leading t o t he discovery of t he 10t h day of t he 7t h mont h, t he Day of At onement , which in 1844, was Oct ober 22nd. Once t he Millerit es underst ood t he sacred calendar, t he unveiling of t ruth led t o the rest oration of the understanding of the Sanctuary, or t abernacle, one of the f oundational pillars of t he SDA church.
But t he Day of At onement and t he Sanct uary was j ust t he t ip of t he iceberg in 1844. I AUA began revealing everything t hat He init ially gave t o the I sraelites at Mt Sinai. This was Advent ism's call t o leave Egypt , or more t o t he point , t o come out of t he world.

2 2 What Di d t he Mi l l er i t es Mi ss?
We know f rom t he hist ory of t he SDA Pioneers, and t he writ ings of Ellen Whit e t hat all of I AUA's plan was not rest ored during t hat t ime. We also know t his because I AUA's overall plan is not evident in t he church t oday. We know t hat t he 7t h Day Sabbat h did not surf ace in 1844, and even when it did present a couple of years lat er, it was t hen kept at t he wrong t ime f or anot her 10 years. Event ually t he t rut h of "even" was revealed in a vision, and correct ed.
When we compare what was given at Sinai, and what is evident in t he church t oday, we f ind t hat nearly all of I AUA's holy days specified in script ure are missing. I n fact , some papal pagan holidays are observed inst ead. The only ' holy day" we f ind evident is t he 7t h Day Sabbat h on sat urdays, on a roman calendar. During t he period of t he Advent movement , Sabbat h was observed st art ing about 1855, f rom sundown f riday t ill sundown sat urday.
We find lit t le evidence t hat I AUA's ot her sacred appoint ed t imes are being observed wit hin t he mainst ream of Advent ism. We also find t hat lit t le of t he rest of I AUA's laws are observed, in t he f orm of t he st at ut es and j udgment given at Sinai. What st at ut es do exist have been picked and chosen t o fit t he needs of t he church.
Remember t he words of Ellen Whit e; "I n t he t ime of t he end, EVERY DI VI NE I NSTI TUTI ON will be rest ored." ( PK 678) We must assume t hat many of t he "divine inst it ut ions" not evident in t he church t oday, are about t o be rest ored. So what are t he rest of I AUA's Laws, St at ut es, Judgment s; what are all of t he "divine inst it ut ions?"
What Happened i n 1888? Advent ism On The Borders of t he Promised Land
Advent ism was script urally st anding on t he borders of t he promised land in 1888. Since we did not go in, we must have t urned back int o t he wilderness, where we have been since. We are now at least 123 years behind I AUA's int ended plan t o t ake His people int o t he kingdom. The quest ion is WHY? Ellen White makes it very clear; (* note the date-pre 1888)
The church has t urned back from following Christ her Leader, and is st eadi l y ret reat i ng t oward Egypt . Yet few are alarmed or astonished at t heir want of spirit ual power. Doubt and even disbelief of t he t estimonies of the Spirit of God is leavening our churches everywhere. Sat an would have it t hus. Uriah Smit h said: We believe t here is bet t er ground on which t o rest [ t he prohibit ion on pork] t han t he ceremonial law of t he f ormer dispensation, i f we t ake t he posi t i on t hat t hat l aw i s st i l l bi ndi ng, we must accept i t al l , and t hen we shal l have mor e on our hands t han we can easi l y di spose of . { MR 852. 2.}
2 5 E.J. Waggoner brought up t he issue of t he law of Moses in his book The Gospel in Galat ians , which was a reply t o t he book by G.I . But ler called The Law in Galat ians .
What did Ellen Whit e say about Waggoner and t he law? You know t hat precious light has shone f ort h in connect ion wit h the law of God, as t he right eousness of Christ has been present ed wit h t hat law. Dr. Waggoner has opened t o you pr eci ous l i ght , not new, but ol d l i ght whi ch has been l ost si ght of by many mi nds, and i s now shi ni ng f ort h i n cl ear rays (The 1888 EGW Mat erials, 174).
And f or t he f irst t ime I began t o t hink it might be we did not hold correct views af t er all upon t he law in Galatians, f or t he t rut h required no such spirit t o sust ain it . { 1888 Mat erials bk.1 p.221} Waggoner underst ood t hat t he l aw of Moses and t he l aw of t he Lord were t he same law. He also underst ood t hat when Paul was speaking of t he law in Galat ians, as well as Romans and ot her books, he meant t he law of God or t he law of Moses . There was no dist inction; t hey were t he same l aw.
Have we made t his mist ake t oday in t rying t o dist inguish bet ween t he law of Moses and t he law of God?
Of t ent imes I see t hese chart s used by our modern day Seventh Day Advent ist minist ers, and on one side of t he chart t hey have t he law of Moses and on t he ot her side of t he chart t he law of God , and t hey say, t he law of Moses was against us . They also say, t he law of God is f or us on t he opposit e side. To a degree t his is t rue, but what t hey f ail t o realize is t hat t he l aw of God i s t he l aw of Moses , and it is witnessing against us when we break it . Anot her mist ake is t hat t hey say it is t he ceremonial law t hat wit nesses against us, but t he f act is, the moral law is witnessing against us inst ead.
The law wit nesses against us when we rebel. I t i s not t he r emedi al l aw t hat woul d wi t ness agai nst us. That was performed af t er we rebelled. Theref ore t he law of Moses is not only t he ceremonial law, but it is also the moral law, which witnesses against us.
Af t er we violat e t he moral law, it t eaches us t hat we need I AUshua. The law, including bot h moral and ceremonial, cannot j ust ify us. I t only point s out t he f act t hat we deserve DEATH , and we need t o run t o I AUshua who is t he only one who could sat isfy t he demand of t his law which was wit nessing against us . This law is not j ust t he law of Moses , it is t he law of I AUA. They are one and t he same j ust as Waggoner t ried t o share in 1888.
When Ellen Whit e wrot e regarding t he law of Moses, she said:
From t he light which God has given me it would be for our advant age t o st udy t he direct ions given t o I srael (read Malachi 4). Ver se 4 especi al l y has a meani ng whi ch al l have not comprehended. Let i t be caref ul l y consi dered. { PH087 8.2} E. G. Whit e: Pamphlet s -PH087 -Special Testimony to Bat tle Creek Church (1897).
Mal 4:4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, whi ch I commanded unto hi m i n Horeb for all I srael , w i t h the st atutes and j udgment s.
2 6 "The closing words of Malachi are a prophecy regarding t he work t hat should be done preparat ory t o t he first and t he second advent of Chr i st . This prophecy is int roduced wit h t he admonit ion, "Remember ye t he law of Moses my servant , which I commanded unt o him in Horeb for all I srael, wit h t he st at ut es and judgment s." { SW, March 21, 1905 par. 1} E. G. Whit e: PERI ODI CALS / SW The Sout hern Wat chman -March 21, 1905 "I n The Spirit and Power of Elias.)
"God is now t esting and proving His people. Charact er is being developed. Angels are weighing moral wort h and keeping a fait hful record of all t he act s of t he children of men. Among God's professed people are corrupt heart s; but t hey will be t est ed and proved. That God who reads t he heart s of everyone, will bring to light hidden t hings of darkness where t hey are oft en least suspect ed, t hat st umbl i ng bl ocks whi ch have hi ndered t he progress of t r ut h may be r emoved, and God have a cl ean and hol y peopl e t o decl are Hi s STATUTES AND JUDGMENTS... Ex. 15: 26 And said, I f t hou wilt diligent ly hearken t o t he voice of t he LORD t hy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight , and wilt give ear t o his commandment s, and keep ALL HI S STATUTES, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egypt ians: f or I am t he LORD t hat healet h t hee.
I n consequence of cont inual t ransgression, t he moral law was repeat ed in awful grandeur from Sinai. Christ gave t o Moses religious precept s which were t o govern t he everyday life. These st at ut es were explicit ly given to guard t he Ten Commandment s. They were not shadowy t ypes t o pass away wi t h t he deat h of Chri st . They were t o be bi ndi ng upon man i n every age as l ong as t i me shoul d l ast . These commands were enforced by t he power of t he moral law, and t hey clearly and definit ely explained t hat law. { RH, May 6, 1875 par. 10} E. G. Whit e The Review and Herald May 6, 1875 The Law of God.
Not es about t his quot e:
St at ut es guard t he t en commandment s
These explained t he moral law. These were given t o Moses. These were repeat ed at Sinai indicat ing t hey exist ed before Sinai. They were repeat ed and reconfirmed at Moab j ust before t he promised land. They will be binding as long as time should last. They were not nailed t o t he cross and did not pass away at t he deat h of I AUshua. The only t hing I AUshua abolished at t he cross was t he penal t y of deat h.
Deu 30: 15 See, I have set before t hee t his day life and good, and deat h and evil; Deu 30: 16 I n that I command t hee t his day t o l ove t he LORD t hy God, t o wal k i n hi s ways, and t o keep hi s commandment s and hi s st at ut es and hi s j udgment s, that t hou mayest live and multiply: and t he LORD t hy God shall bless t hee in t he land whit her t hou goest t o possess it
St at ut es t hat were not Nai l ed t o t he Cross
Consider t his: How can we expect I AUA t o pour out His Spirit on a church t hat says, We keep t he commandment s , and yet nails some of t he statut e commandments t o t he cross where they 2 7 dont belong? We have nailed more t o t he cross t han j ust t he penalt y t hat was against us. We have gone so f ar as t o nail t he law of Moses t o t he cross with many of it s st at ut es and j udgment s.
Not everyt hing is so black and whit e. There are 2 part s of t he law, t he Moral Law and t here is t he Ceremonial or Remedial Syst em which was put in place af t er violat ing t he moral law. But t here seems t o be a gray area where t here are a lot of st at ut es , and some, as weve discovered, are still binding which include statut es regarding healt h, marriage, t it hing, f ornicat ion, usury. These st at ut es are st ill binding. Then t here are st at ut es which point ed t o t he cross and were part of t he Ceremonial Law such as Sacrifices and Off erings.
But t here is a quest ion concerning t he Feast s of Jehovah as well as some of t he ot her st at ut es t hat remain. Here is a quot e f rom Pam Bent on who did some research on t his t opic. This is what she discovered:
Our English word st at ut e comes f rom t wo original Hebrew words, St rong's # 2706 choq and St rong's # 2708 chuggah. According t o St rong's Lexical Aids, t he def init ions for bot h words are t he same, except # 2708 has t he added qual i f i er of bei ng per manent l y bi ndi ng. The word st at ut es ( # 2706) most always ref ers t o t he sacrificial syst em and is not permanent ly binding. The word st at ut es ( # 2708) most al ways ref ers t o t he moral l aw, i ncl udi ng God' s hol y days i n Levi t i cus chapt er 23, and i s per manent l y bi ndi ng. Thus the original Hebrew words t hemselves suggest t o us which statut es are permanent ly binding. --Diamonds in t he Sand by Pam Bent on. So looking at t he Hebrew we can get a good idea of what is permanently binding and what is not .
I n t he days of Christ t hese feast s were at tended by vast mult it udes of people from all lands; and had t hey been kept as God int ended, in t he spirit of t rue worship, t he light of t rut h might t hrough t hem have been given t o all t he nat ions of t he world. Wit h t hose who lived at a dist ance from t he t abernacle, more t han a mont h of every year must have been occupied in at t endance upon t hese holy convocat ions. The Lord saw t hat t hese gat herings were necessary for t he spirit ual life of His people. They needed t o t urn away from t heir worldly cares, t o commune wit h God, and to cont emplat e unseen realit ies. I f t he chi l dr en of I sr ael needed t he benef i t of t hese hol y convocat i ons i n t hei r t i me, how much more do we need t hem i n t hese l ast days of peri l and conf l i ct ! And i f t he people of t he worl d t hen needed t he light whi ch God had commi t t ed t o Hi s chur ch, how much mor e do t hey need i t now! (Ellen Whit e 6T 39-40)
So what have we l earned?
1. The Law of Moses is not nailed t o t he cross 2. The law of Moses is t he law of I AUA 3. I n 1888 a message was sent from heaven t o clarify t his. 4. The feast s were not Ceremonial but Moral St at ut es. 2 8 14. I AUshua as t he Passover sacrifice was set aside 4000 years before t he cross. 15. The Passover day was not nailed t o t he cross as Paul kept t he Passover. 16. The Philippians, Corint hians, Colossians and early Christ ians were all Feast Keepers. 17. Rome t hought t o change t imes and laws. 18. AT Jones, EJ Waggoner, and Ellen Whit e never spoke against t he Feast s. 19. We should keep t he Feasts t oday. 20. The New Moons are fest ivals which are meant for t he purifying of t he body of I AUshua, his Church.

What Needs t o Be Rest ored What was t aken away, is what needs t o be rest ored
Whenever I srael went into apostasy, supplanting t heir own t radit ions f or t hose of I AUA, there were consequences. For what ever reasons, t he children of I srael periodically t urned from t he ways of I AUA and implement ed t heir own ways. Because of t hese errant and sinful ways, I AUA said he would cause t hem t o f orget t heir own way of doing t hings. He said he would remove t heir f easts and f est ivals, their appointed t imes, their own tradit ions. I AUA said in several places in script ure t hat t heir way of doing t hings, apart f rom His ways, were an abominat ion t o Him. Let ' s look at some of t he places where I AUA caused t heir ways t o be removed or forgot t en.
Hosea
I will also cause all her mi r t h t o cease, her f east days, her new moons, and her Sabbat hs, and all her sol emn f east s. (Hos 2: 11)
I sai ah
Hear t he word of t he LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unt o t he law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah. To what purpose is t he mult it ude of your sacrifices unt o me? sait h t he LORD: I am f ull of t he burnt of f erings of rams, and t he f at of f ed beast s; and I delight not in t he blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goat s. When ye come t o appear before me, who hat h required t his at your hand, t o t read my court s? Bring no more vain oblat ions; incense is an abominat ion unt o me; t he new moons and Sabbat hs, t he cal l i ng of assembl i es, I cannot away wi t h; i t i s i ni qui t y, even t he sol emn meet i ng. Your new moons and your appoi nt ed f east s my soul hat et h: t hey are a t r oubl e unt o me; I am weary t o bear t hem. And when ye spread f ort h your hands, I will hide mine eyes f rom you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are f ull of blood. Wash you, make you clean; put away t he evil of your doings from bef ore mine eyes; cease t o do evil; Learn t o do well; seek j udgment , relieve t he oppressed, j udge t he f at herless, plead f or t he widow. Come now, and let us reason t oget her, sait h t he LORD: t hough your sins be as scarlet , t hey shall be as whit e as snow; 2 9 t hough t hey be red like crimson, t hey shall be as wool . I f ye be willing and obedient , ye shall eat t he good of t he land: But if ye ref use and rebel, ye shall be devoured wit h t he sword: for t he mout h of the LORD hat h spoken it . (I sa 1: 10-20)
Amos
Shall not t he day of t he LORD be darkness, and not light ? even very dark, and no bright ness in it ? I hat e, I despi se your f east days, and I wi l l not smel l i n your sol emn assembl i es. Though ye of f er me bur nt of f eri ngs and your meat of f eri ngs, I wi l l not accept t hem: nei t her wi l l I regard t he peace of f eri ngs of your f at beast s. Take t hou away f rom me t he noi se of t hy songs; f or I wi l l not hear t he mel ody of t hy vi ol s. But l et j udgment run down as wat er s, and r i ght eousness as a mi ght y st r eam. Have ye of f ered unt o me sacr i f i ces and of f eri ngs i n t he wi l derness f ort y years, O house of I srael ? But ye have bor ne t he t aber nacl e of your Mol och and Chi un your i mages, t he st ar of your god, whi ch ye made t o yoursel ves. Therefore will I cause you t o go int o capt ivit y beyond Damascus, sait h t he LORD, whose name is The God of host s. (Amo 5: 20-27)
Lament at ions
How hat h t he Lord covered t he daught er of Zion wit h a cloud in his anger, and cast down f rom heaven unt o t he eart h t he beaut y of I srael, and remembered not his f oot st ool in t he day of his anger! The Lord hat h swallowed up all t he habit at ions of Jacob, and hat h not pit ied: he hat h t hrown down in his wrat h t he strong holds of t he daught er of Judah; he hat h brought t hem down t o the ground: he hath pollut ed t he kingdom and t he princes t hereof . He hath cut of f in his f ierce anger all t he horn of I srael: he hat h drawn back his right hand f rom bef ore t he enemy, and he burned against Jacob like a f laming f ire, which devouret h round about. He hat h bent his bow like an enemy: he st ood wit h his right hand as an adversary, and slew all t hat were pleasant t o t he eye in t he t abernacle of t he daught er of Zion: he poured out his f ury like f ire. The Lord was as an enemy: he hat h swallowed up I srael, he hat h swal l owed up al l her pal aces: he hat h dest r oyed hi s st r ong hol ds, and hat h i ncr eased i n t he daught er of Judah mour ni ng and l ament at i on. And he hat h vi ol ent l y t aken away hi s t aber nacl e, as i f i t wer e of a garden: he hat h dest r oyed hi s pl aces of t he assembl y: t he LORD hat h caused t he sol emn f east s and Sabbat hs t o be f orgot t en i n Zi on, and hat h despi sed i n t he i ndi gnat i on of hi s anger t he ki ng and t he pri est . The Lord hat h cast of f hi s al t ar, he hat h abhor red hi s sanct uary, he hat h gi ven up i nt o t he hand of t he enemy t he wal l s of her pal aces; t hey have made a noi se i n t he house of t he LORD, as i n t he day of a sol emn f east . (Lam 2: 1-7)
I n t he above examples of script ure, we f ind t he "divine inst it ut ions" t hat have been lost t hroughout t he cent uries, due t o apostasy. disobedience, ignorance, and willf ul sinf ulness. I t is t hese "divine inst it ut ions" t hat we must consider t hat need t o be rest ored.
We are t old in I saiah 66: 23 of t wo of t he "divine inst it utions" t hat will be rest ored. Not ice t hat t he "new moon" and Sabbat h are t wo of t hese divine inst it ut ions t hat will be rest ored.
And it shall come t o pass, t hat from one new moon to anot her, 3 0 and from one Sabbat h to anot her, shall all flesh come t o worship before me, sait h t he LORD. (I sa 66: 23)
What needs t o be rest ored, are all of I AUA's "appoint ed t imes," at t heir proper t ime, which consist of the 7th Day Sabbath to it's right f ul place in I AUA's sacred lunisolar calendar, Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, Feast of Weeks, Pent ecost , Day of Trumpet s, Day of At onement , and t he Feast of Tabernacles. I f Sat urday, as t he 7 t h day Sabbath, is the biblically correct day, why would it need t o be rest ored?
What does not need t o be rest ored are t he sacrifices and oblat ions, t hat were required under t he ceremonial and sacrificial syst em. Daniel t ells us clearly t hat t hese were complet ed at t he sacrifice of I AUshua on t he cross.
Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm t he covenant wit h many for one week: and in t he midst of t he week he shal l cause t he sacri f i ce and t he obl at i on t o cease, and for t he overspreading of abominat ions he shall make it desolat e, even unt il t he consummat ion, and t hat det ermined shall be poured upon t he desolat e.
Ellen Whit e supports t his as well. See ref erences from Ellen Whit e in ot her places in t his paper. I t was at t he point of t he crucifixion t hat deat h was no l onger r equi r ed as a penal t y f or si n. I AUshua t ook our sent ence upon Him inst ead.
Where i s Advent i sm t oday? 165 years in t he Wilderness
I n 1844, The Millerit es, and event ually Advent ism, st ood script urally at t he f oot of Mt Sinai, and began t o receive t he covenant of I AUA, or t he law, I AUAs set -apart or appoint ed t imes (f east s), including everything writ ten in the 5 books of the Old Test ament . ( wit h the except ion of the sacrif ices and oblations)
The I sraelit es, at Mt Sinai, chose to create an idol to worship, the inf amous golden calf . Advent ism, f ollowing 1844, appears t o have creat ed it s own idol, in Sat urday as t he 7 t h day Sabbat h. According t o script ure, t he 7 t h day Sabbat h out lined in script ure cannot be f ound on a papal, roman calendar. Did Advent ism, in 1846, creat e it s own golden calf , when Sat urday was adopt ed as t he 7 t h day Sabbat h?
I n 1888, Advent ism st ood script urally in t he land of Moab, ready t o ent er t he promised land, evidenced by t he writ ings of Ellen Whit e.
Today, Advent ism, and all of I AUAs church, not only are not in t he promised land, t hey have ret reat ed t o t he wilderness, and have marched st eadily back t oward Egypt . Today, not only are we not in t he promised land, we are over 120 years overdue. And f rom all appearances, we are at t he end.
The church has t urned back from following Christ her Leader, and is st eadi l y ret reat i ng t oward Egypt . Yet few are alarmed or astonished at t heir want of spirit ual power. Doubt and even disbelief of t he t estimonies of the Spirit of God is leavening our churches everywhere. Sat an would have it t hus. Ministers who preach self inst ead of 3 1 Christ , would have it t hus. The t est imonies are unread and unappreciat ed. God has spoken t o you. Light has been shining from his word and from t he t est imonies, and bot h have been slight ed and disregarded. The resul t i s apparent i n t he l ack of puri t y and devot i on and ear nest f ai t h among us. { PH001 1.2} Healdsburg CA May 30 1882
The Might y Work of The Fourt h Angel is long overdue
I saw angels hurrying t o and fro in heaven, descending t o t he eart h, and again ascending t o heaven, preparing for t he fulfillment of some import ant event . Then I saw anot her might y angel commissioned to descend t o t he eart h, to unit e his voice wit h t he t hird angel, and give power and force t o his message. Great power and glory were impart ed to t he angel, and as he descended, t he eart h was light ened wit h his glory. The light which at t ended t his angel penet rat ed everywhere, as he cried might ily, wit h a st rong voice, "Babylon t he great is fallen, is fallen, and is become t he habit at ion of devils, and t he hold of every foul spirit , and a cage of every unclean and hat eful bird." The message of t he f al l of Babyl on, as gi ven by t he second angel , i s repeat ed, wi t h t he addi t i onal ment i on of t he corr upt i ons whi ch have been ent er i ng t he chur ches since 1844. The work of t hi s angel comes i n at t he ri ght t i me t o j oi n i n t he l ast great work of t he t hi r d angel ' s message as i t swel l s t o a l oud cry. And t he people of God are t hus prepared t o st and in t he hour of t empt ation, which t hey are soon t o meet . I saw a great light resting upon t hem, and t hey unit ed t o fearlessly proclaim t he t hird angel's message. { EW 277.1

Thunder represent s t he voice of I AUA, and seven represent s "complet eness" (see Act s of t he Apost les, p. 585); t heref ore, t he seven t hunders cont ain t he complet e revelat ion of I AUA's voice t o His remnant people who are living in "t he t imes of rest it ut ion [ rest orat ion] of all t hings" (Act s 3: 21).
The seven t hunders cont ain t he f ull depiction of Mercy's last call, the rainbow revelation of I AUA's promise t o cont inue t o speak t o us "unt il [ our] right eousness t hereof go f ort h as brightness, and t he salvation thereof as a lamp t hat burneth," t hat we "may eventually st and on Mount Zion with t he Lamb."
