Administration Overview ■ Test 5 Phonological Processing is composed of three subtests—5A Word
Access, 5B Word Fluency, and 5C Substitution. You must administer all three subtests to obtain a score for
Test 5 PhonologicalProcessing.■ If the subject provides a response that is not in English, or is not
commonly used in English, say: Tellme in English.■ If the subject provides a phrase (two or more words),
say: Give me a one-word answer. ■ You may repeat any item during this test if requested by the subject.■
Present Sample Items A through C and Items 1 through 3 orally. Present the remaining test items fromthe
audio recording.■ Letters printed within slashes (e.g., /p/) indicate that you should say the phoneme (the

most common sound of the letter), not the letter name.■ The audio recording provides adequate time
between items for most subjects to respond. However,you may pause the recording if the subject needs
additional time.■ Look away from the subject while a test item is presented from the audio recording. After
the twobeeps, look expectantly at the subject.Audio Equipment■ Before testing, locate the correct starting
item on the audio recording (see Suggested Starting Points table on page 125) and adjust the volume to a
comfortably loud level on the subject’s headphones or thespeaker.Scoring■ 1 = Correct response0 =
Incorrect response■ To be scored correct, responses must be real words in English.■ Do not penalize a
subject for mispronunciations resulting from articulation errors, dialect variations, orregional speech
patterns. ■ When calculating the number correct, count all items below the basal as correct. Do not include
pointsfor sample items.■ The total number of points (raw score) on 5A Word Access is used to determine
the starting point for5C Substitution.
