Pefanio-Cj - Coursework-2 - State-It

A state requires a government in order to exist and perform essential duties like upholding law and order, defending citizens' rights, and providing public services. Without a government, it would be very difficult for a state to efficiently control its territory and population. However, a state could temporarily exist without a functioning government during times of political unrest or war if external groups intervene to preserve order and meet citizens' needs until governance can be restored.

Comparative Government and Politics

Pefanio, Chris Jericho D.

CED-08-301A
Mr. Melvin Ambida

Can the state exist without a government? Answer the question in a straightforward
manner with a maximum of five sentences only. This serves as your Coursework No.
2.

Typically, a state is described as a political entity with a definite territory, a population, and a
functioning government. As a result, it is common knowledge that a state requires a
government in order to exist.

The government is in charge of exercising sovereignty and performing state duties, such as
upholding law and order, defending citizens' rights and interests, and offering public goods
and services. It would be challenging for a state to carry out these duties and efficiently
control its territory and population without a government.

Nevertheless, a state could go for a while without having a functioning government if there is
political unrest, a war, or other unforeseen events. In such circumstances, it might be
necessary for external actors to intervene and offer assistance or support in order to
preserve order and take care of the needs of the populace, such as international
organisations or neighbouring governments. However, these circumstances are frequently
transient and do not signify a protracted lack of administration.
