1.2 Safety
Operators of this equipment must have experience and
expertise with switchgear.
To prevent personal injury or equipment damage, this
manual must be read carefully.
This manual MUST be readily available whenever the unit
is handled or operated.
If this equipment suffers from any fault or damage,
contact the manufacturer and/or supplier immediately.

• Before commencing any work, ensure that the necessary safety precautions, risk
assessments, and safety documents are in place.

• Installation must be carried out observing the Operational Safety Rules.

• Check substation earth is intact - if missing, seek advice.

14. Commissioning Tests
Commissioning Safety Notes
The tests described hereafter, unless otherwise stated assume the switchgear is in the unconnected state
and deenergised state. ie: cables are not connected to the RMU Ring Switches or T-Off bushings or circuit
is in such a state as would be considered safe.
Primary current injection should never be attempted while the switchgear is in an energised state. It could
result in serious injury and/or damage to the equipment.
Secondary current injection should not be undertaken on live equipment. CT ratio shorting link should not
be removed while the switchgear is in service or power is flowing through the CT primary.
In all instances the relevant protection and RMU schematics should be referenced prior to commencing
testing.

14.1 Main Circuit Resistance Tests

Note: It is recommended that Electrical Circuit Resistance readings are taken. This
is to ensure good working order of all moving parts inside the unit, and to make sure
the unit is safe to operate for testing.

Resistance readings should be taken for each of the following adjacent circuit paths for each phase:

1 : Ring switch 1 to ring switch 2

2 : Ring switch 1 to T-off Circuit Resistance Value
(microhms)
3 : Ring switch 2 to T-off
Ring Switch To Ring 260
These readings taken are to be compared with the Switch
following maximum values. Ring Switch To T-Off 265

Note: Values shown are the maximum permissible in (µΩ).

Any readings which are above these maximum values should be reported to
appropriate supervising personal for review.
