1. Course Number and Title: EEE 141 Electrical Circuits I

EEE 141 Electrical Circuits I Lab

2. Number of Credits:3 +1 = 4 Credits

3. Type: Core, Engineering, Lecture + Lab

4. Prerequisites: MAT 120 (Calculus and Analytic Geometry I)

5. Contact Hours: Lecture-3 hours per week, Lab- 3 hours per week

6. Course Summary:

Formulation and solution of circuit equations using various circuit analysis techniques
including Ohm’s law, Kirchhoff’s laws, mesh and nodal analysis, superposition, source
conversion, Thevenin’s theorem, Norton’s theorem, and maximum power transfer theorem.
Then transient analysis of series RC and RL circuits will be discussed followed by brief
introduction of capacitors and inductors. This course has a separate mandatory laboratory
session every week as EEE 141L.

7. Course Objectives:

The objectives of this course are

a. To introduce basic circuit laws applied in simple DC circuits to compute voltage,


current, equivalent resistance and power.

b. To analyze complex circuits using nodal and mesh methods.

c. To simplify circuit analysis using various circuit theorems.

d. To examine the transient analysis of series RC and RL circuits.

e. To enable the students to build circuits and conduct experiments on it in a laboratory


setting.
