Steps for Adding EDS file to the DTM Catalogue

 Download the EDS file for IC-KP2-2HB17-2V1D by going to the below mentioned URL.

 Open the Unity Pro XL software and configure required PLC and its modules and once done, the
screen will appear similar to the image below

 First we need to Add the ESD file to the software library for doing so follow the steps below
 Click on “Tools” and select “DTM Browser”.

 The below mentioned screen will be displayed


 Right click on the PLC and then Go to “Device Menu”>”Additional Functions”>”Add EDS to
Library”.

 Click yes for the Pop Up which appears and then the EDS installer will open. Click on “Next”
 Choose “Add file” and click on “Browse”

 Go to the destination where the ESD file is unzipped and kept. Select the EDS file and click Open.

 Click on Next and then Finish. The EDS will be installed.


 Now we have to update the DTM hardware catalogue. For that go to “DTM Browser” and right
click on “Host” and select “DTM hardware catalogue”

 From the Hardware Catalogue Menu Choose DTM catalogue and Click On “Update”. This will
update the catalogue to include our newly installed EDS file.
Testing of RFID Read/write head with EtherNet/IP Interface
 After installing the EDS we need to add the EDS to the DTM Brower. For that right click on the
PLC and choose “Add”.

 Find the EDS for our RFID Controller and Click on “Add DTM”.

 The below mentioned screen will appear. Click On “OK”.


 Once the EDS is added it will look like the below mentioned Screen.

 Double click on the PLC and the below mentioned communication screen will appear. Click on
“Device List” and under the “Properties” menu Change Import Mode to “Manual”

 Now go to “Address Setting” and set the IP of the RFID Controller.


 Now double click on the EDS file of the RFID Controller.

 Configure the same EtherNet IP Instance which was configured via the web interface during
initial setup of controller.

If the default is not same remove the current connection and add the new connection as per the configuration.
 Add the New required connection and Click on “OK”

 After configuring the connection double click on the PLC again and go to “Items”. From here
delete all the Inputs and Outputs as we will be configuring new ones.

 Select all the inputs/outputs and click on “Define Items”


 Choose “Dint” Data type from the drop down selection and click on “OK”

 Now both input and output in now configured and will show like the below mentioned screen.

 Once done Click on “Apply” and Then “OK”


 Now from the Project Browser click on Device DT Variable and we can see that our Controller
input and output is now configured and is showed in the Device DDT

 Now load the PLC program.


 Once loaded, monitor the values inside the animation table and check for Freshness bit as “1”.
This will indicate that the communication is healthy. If it is “0” then the communication is not Okay.
