TESTING FOR PIPES

1. PURPOSE:

The purpose of this method statement is to define construction sequence in

relation to the Hydro testing of pipes. All works will be carried out in accordance
to site safety rules and regulations as guided by HSE Management. This
method statement shall be read in conjunction with project specification,
relevant codes for installation.

2. SCOPE:

This method statement defines the construction methodology for the Hydro
testing of pipes. The work will be coordinated with other services during the
execution of work in line with the specifications, approved MAS, approved shop
drawings safety and quality requirements

The following reference documents to the extent specified herein form a part of
this method

5. RESPONSIBILITY:

Manager:

 He shall be responsible for all the contractual requirements pertaining to

this activity and method statement.
 Be the focal point for all communication and correspondence.
 Ensure that effective systems to monitor and control the works are
implemented, particularly in respect of safety, quality of the works.
 Directing construction activities through engineers.
 Review overall progress of activities pertaining to this method statement
and communication with contractor for coordination of civil works and
other services etc.
 Take active participation in all QA/QC matters.
 Coordinate with various agencies to reduce interface problems.

Site Engineer:

 Conducting toolbox talks to explain the work procedure and maintain

safety guidelines.
 Ensure that latest shop drawings are being used at site.
 Controlling the fitters/ fabricators, helpers and their performance,
supervision of installations.
 Organizing all necessary materials, tools, equipment to the work site and
assigning workman crew prior to commencement of work.
 Confirming materials used at site are as per approved material submittal.
 Preparation for Stage Inspection and notification to Project Engineer for
inspections.

Quality Personnel:

 QA/QC personnel shall be overall responsible for QA/QC activities.

 Ensuring the quality of Materials delivered at site as per specification and
approved material submittals by conducting stage wise inspection at
factory and site.
 Facilitating Client / Third party Inspections as per approved Inspection
Test Plan.
 He shall be responsible for the execution of correct installation techniques
and control with respect to this method statement and reference
documents.
 Witnessing all Checks / tests.
 Maintaining records of calibration, inspection and testing equipment.
 Documentation of test records and stage inspection.
 Reporting and monitoring of non-conformance status.

Safety Engineer:

 Shall facilitate and maintain a good safe working practice at site.

 Shall facilitate the risk analysis and require preventive measure.
 Check PPE for all workers and staff during execution.
 Take prior precaution to avoid any accidents.
 Check the equipment used for lifting the materials are tested and safe for lifting.
 Shall be responsible for ensuring that all involved personnel have attended
company HSE induction and follow HSE regulations, safe work practices, safe
working environment.
 Shall responsible to conduct work site inspection to ensure that all the activities
are performing as per the standard safety procedures.

 Shall lead HSE communication with workforce to encourage reporting of

incidents, hazard identification, risk management and emergency
preparedness.

6. METHODOLOGY FOR HYDRO TESTING OF PIPES

 Installation of pipes to be completed for the conduct of hydro test.

 All the ends to be shut before filling the water.

 Water filling point to be installed at the lowest point of system and Air vents on
the highest point of the system.

 Pressure gauges will be fitted near the pressure pump manifold and at the
highest point manifold.

 Now fill the water in the entire testing circuit and close the valves.

 Now start pressuring the system using pump until the required pressure in
obtained at the gauge.

 All piping shall be tested to hydrostatic test pressure of at least two and half
times the maximum operating pressure, but not less than 10 kg/cm2 gage for a
period of not less than 24 hours as per specification.

 After reaching the required pressure hold it for 1 hr and check for leaks in the
pipes.

 If any leakage is found release the pressure and rectify.

 Hold the pressure not less not 24 hrs and inspect and witnessed by the client,
the pressure will be released and dewatering done through drain outlets.

7. Inspection and Testing

 The in process works shall be monitored for quality of workmanship and
installation against approved shop drawings by contractor’s QA/QC engineer

 Hydro test report is prepared by the engineer with the parameters recorded
during testing.

 Upon the arrival of pumps to site the duct works shall be inspected by
contractors QA/QC engineer for visual and dimensional checks

 All the works shall be inspected for the conformance towards project
specifications

 The inspection formats shall be used in accordance with the requirements of

main contractors Unique documentation procedures

 After contractors QA/QC inspection the inspection request shall be officially

submitted to engineer for inspection and approval.

RECORDS:

 All inspection formats and other records shall be as per project approved forms.

8. Health and Safety Control Measures

Safety

 All activities will be executed in accordance with contractors HSE Plan and HSE
guidelines.
 Safety risk assessment shall be performed for every job or task, which has the
potential for harm.
 Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available with all the workers.
 All required equipment and tools should be checked before start of work for
suitability and integrity.
 All safety Guidelines shall be adhered as per approved HSE Plan.
 Necessary permit to work to be obtained as per the site requirement.

9. HOUSE-KEEPING:

 Effective housekeeping can eliminate some work place hazards and helps to
get job done safely and properly.

 The work area shall be maintained neat and tidy as reasonably practical all the
times
