FOREWORD

The healing power of magnetism , both fr om natural m agnetism

and man-made magneti s m , has been kn own for m any centuries .
Indeed , it may well extend over m any th ousands of y ears , for we are
t old in ancient manus cri pts of the use of l odes t one in an cient China
and E gy pt for many pur poses , i n cluding curing the si ck . T o the
psy ch ol ogi cal observer and any one n ot kn owing very m u ch a bout th e
s u bj e ct , we might put it aside as " psy ch ol ogi cal healing" . In point
of fa ct , n othing is further fr om the truth , for are we n ot MADE of
magnetism , along with other nat nral for ce s ?

I n ancient times , the curative pr operties of the magneti c l ode

s tone (a natural magneti c ore ) were attri buted t o s o- called " magi cal
for ces" , merely be caus e the fundamentals of magnetism were n ot
s cientifi cally a ppre ciated , as they are t oday . In fact , sin ce s cience
has made such great s trides in this field , we may mani pulate natural
and man-made magnetism t o our will , using it in any intensity , fre
quency or polarity .

The pur pos e of this book is t o give s ome informati on on the

healing power of all kinds of magnetism utilised in many forms , for
the layman t o understand with out t e chni cal com pli cati ons . The work
offers in a condensed form s ome of the History , uses and pre sent-day
meth ods of healing by natural magnetism . . . . whi ch is truly a life
for ce and whi ch I call BIO - MAGNETISM (LIFE - MAGNETISM) .

T he study of B i o-Magnetism i s l ong and com pli cated , and might

lead into technical fields . H owever , the aim of thi s book is to inform
and offer meth ods of using this greatest of all natural healing for ces ,
and to dis pense with the danger ous drugs that are handed out by the
t on in the s e m odern time s . I have , for many years , been as s o
ciated with natural healing fr om many as pe ct s . . . Bi o-Mag-netism i s
an other im portant as pe ct of the healing for ce of the great Universe
in whi ch we live .

I am n ot sugge sting that Bi o-Magneti sm i s a panacea for all ill

nesses . There ne ver h as been found the "cure-all" remedy, in fact
there mi g-ht never well be , for we are s u ch com pli cated bein g-s that
what suits one pers on might n ot suit an other , for every one of us i s
a n individual quite different fr om our neigh bour . H owever , B i o
Magnetism has the pr operty of being a natural and harmle s s healin g
for ce when used corre ctly , and it has n o side- effe cts whi ch will aggra
vate or com pli cate a diseased conditi on . The d os age in s ome cases i s
contr olle d by instruments , in others n o instruments are required .
Yet , if an overdos e IS given , n o harm can come by it . T his is one of
the great advantages of the meth od , in that the layman can use ordi
nary magneti c a pplian ce s without fear of irritati on or overd os e . . . this
cann ot be said for the many harmful dru g-s that the world populati on
s wall ow each day .

Therefore , fr om the sim ple understanding of natural bi o-magnetism ,

we may find a system of healing , com bined with the latest informati on
of the s u bj e ct , freed fr om all s o- called "magi cal or occult" powers . . . .
offered in a straightfor ward workable manner . F r om the se pages , I
h ope y ou will find s ome measure of interest , of healing- and further
understanding of the Universe in whi ch we live , and the Universe
whi ch i s WITHIN us .

Dane Hill , Hay wards Heath , S u s sex , E ngland . 1978 .

THE MAGNET TO HEAL

The power to heal the sick is within us all , by one way or an
other it has been thus for all times . T he kn owledge t o heal is t oday
of s cience , of yesterday of magi c and the occult , a faculty belonging
t o the mythi cal G ods of an cient civilisati on , the Pythia of Gree ce ,
Tem ples of E gy pt , and the G ods of China and Japan . F or all time
has Man s ought for the panacea for i llne s s , and thr ough the super
s titi on of the an cient worlds , whi ch are n ow b ut fairy tale legends ,
there persists the informati on , s crawled on s lab s of s t one or b uried
in the pyramids of an cient E gy pt on Pa pari (the skin of animals ) .
Where can one begin t o find the truth ? Where can one seek the first
healing by natural magnetism ?

It is believed that the kn owledge t oday of the power of natural

magneti c ore (s o-called l ode s t one , m ore corre ctly termed "Magnetite" )
came fr om Asia Min or in the very early days of civili sati on , and the
k n owledge of its existence eventually s preads the wh ole of the then
civilised world , and on thr ough the ages to t oday , int o the future .

Only until Ant on Mesmer , M . D . dis covered any measure of

s cientifi c healing power of the magnet , was any attenti on paid t o it
in m odern s cientifi c cir cles . Gradually , fr om then on , the idea that
magneti c power is " magi cal" has l ong sin ce gone . D r . Anton Mesmer
of Vienna ( 1 7 3 4- 1 8 1 5 ) s tudied the effe cts of the plants on the human
b ody for s ome years . He maintained the exi sten ce of animal mag-
netism by whi ch pers ons could influen ce each other . In his cir cular
to the A cademie of B avaria , of whi ch he was a member , he stated
that Animal magnetism was quite different fr om the m agnetism of
metals . He later made use of metal in treatments in his S al on in
Paris , and he used a number of varied com pli cated and sim ple de
vice s t o heal the s i ck . It i s true to say that m any of his patients
were influenced by what we n ow k n ow to be hy pn otism , but hy pn o
ti sm aside , he als o found the s cientifi c m eth od of treatment by mag
neti sm , whi ch DID cure s ome of the m ost ob s t inate cases of the day
(MOL L ) . A foll ower of Mesmer , a certain Chastenet de Puy s egur ,
tried t o s e parate many natural phenomena conne cted with psy ch ol o
gi cal facets of the patient , in an endeav our t o give magnetism s ome
true power to heal of its elf .

1.
In 1 8 4 4 , B ar on Charle s Von Reichenbach pub li shed t o the w orld
the re sult s of hi s re search e s (Od re search ref) , in which natural
sen sitive experimental subj ect s w ere given m agnets in dark r oom s;
in time , some saw magnetic " fluid" (hi s term ) of a red and b lue c ol
our emanating fr om t h e magnet s . The p r ocedure s , exp erimental
n ote s , etc . , tran slated by J ohn A shb urt on , M . D . in 1 8 5 2 , make up a
w ork of ove r 50 0 page s w ith m any illustrations . Later, another English
tran slati on of hi s " L etter s on Od and M agneti sm " by Pr of. D r . O ' Byrne
in 1 9 3 4 , c ontained the intere sting forew ord "Why sh ould a scienti st of
e minence be denied a hearing for ob servati on s of fact t o w hich he has
dev oted a quarter of a century of the b e st year s of hi s life ? F act ,
they say , i s like ste am ; deny it an exit , and y ou are b ound sooner
or later to have an exp l osi on . How much m ore dignified t o accept
fact quietly . "

How ever , on further reference , we find that in a w ork

entitled " O n the treatment of w ound s by the magnet" by Gocleniu s ,
a crude meth od of healing w a s u sed in gr ound magnet s, which were
swallowed by the patient . Of c our se , w e may b e ab le t o go b ack
further in sh owin g that Paracel su s al so u sed the m agnet to d r

Pr ofe ssor He ll , a Je suit a str on omer , u sed a m agnet to relieve a

crip pled c onditi on of a servant ; fr om thi s succe ss , he w ent onto
other s , u sing heart -shaped magnet s for heart tr ouble and kidney
shap ed m a gnets for kidney tr ouble etc. In America , in the 1 8 0 0 ' s ,
there appeared a club de scrib ed t o " C ultivate the per sonality by
per sonal m agnetism in 7 p r ogre ssive step s" . T h i s included the u se
of magnetic l ode st one s t o cure certain typ e s of ailments (nam e s of
ailments are n ot given ) .

Dr . George S tarr White in hi s numerou s pub licati on s , has adv o

cated and studied the u se of magneti sm in the healing field in many
way s. In hi s b ook called "Think" we find the foll owin :r : -
HUMAN MA GNET - I have seen some per son s have energy fr om their
fin ge r s that w ould deflect a m agnetic needle the same as a b ar magnet
w ould . T hat i s , the finger s w ould re pel one pole and attract an other .
S ometime s b oth hand s w ould repel the same pole , and at other tim e s
one hand w ould rep el the n orth p ole while the other hand w ould attract
it . T h e se per son s c ould pick up a piece of p a per by mean s of the

I
energy at the end s of their fin ger s .

2.
At other tim e s , in stead of picking up the paper , their finger s
w ould repel it !

We are all familiar with the power of certain fi sh t o generate

electricity of such inten sity that it will cau se suffering w hen a
p er son c ome s into c ontact with it . N o one has yet b een ab ie t o
tell j u st how the se fi sh g-enerate the electri city , b ut i t i s pr ob ab ly
generated by a sudden interchange of fluid s in the b ody T hey
a pparentl y d o it t o pr ote ct them selv e s . Whether the per son s with
thi s pe culiar magnetic or electric faculty have something abn ormal
g oing on in their b odie s , I do n ot kn ow .

S ome per sons exhibit this peculiar electric or m a g-netic phen omena
if suffering fr om t omain p oi soning or fr om very severe inte stinal
indige sti on . T hi s w ould seem t o indicate that the phenomena i s
caused by some abn ormal interchan g-e of fluid s in the b ody .

In the fir st class of per son s de scrib e d , the phenom en on i s the

re sult of apparent phy si ol ogical acti on in the b ody , w hile in the
other cla ss it is the re sult of a pathologi cal c onditi on . "

In a further study on hi s reflex n ote s w e take fr om the w ork of

Dr . S tarr White the following: -
EXPLANATION OF THE S YMPATHETIC-VA GAL REFLEX - " I am often
a sked by scienti st s and ph ysician s for an explanation as to why the
mag-netic meridian affe ct s the b ody m ore w hen it i s facin g- n orth or
south than when it i s facin g- e a st or w e st? It c an b e b ri e fly explained
as foll ow s: - The symp athetic gangli o are p laced in the poster ior
p art of the t or so anteri or t o the spinal c olumn . The ramificati on s
fr om the sympathetic gangli o are lateral . T herefore they pre sent a
great deal m ore surface anter o-p osteri orly than they d o laterally .
When the b ody i s facin g- e a st or w e st , the m agnetic m eridian energy
cut relatively only a very few line s of force fr om the g-re at nerve
gangli o and their b ranche s; but w hen the b ody i s facing in the mag
netic meridian, that is , north or south , the ene rgy from the m a g-ne tic
meridian cut s infinitely m ore lin e s of force , and in so d oing ste ps u p
the energy , thu s pr oducing a change of ten si on i n the b l ood ve sse l s ,
whic h change of ten si on i s t h e sympathetic-vagal reflex induced b y
the m a g-netic meridian .

3.
Thi s exp lanati on seems c on si stent w hen w e c on sider the fact that all
form s of energy are related and it i s easy to step one energy up or
d own into another form of energy .

BI G-DYNAMO - CHROMAT IC THE RAPY - F oll owing the law of similar s , I

have devel oped a sy stem of therapy in acc ordance with the c ol our
findings in the diagn osi s . F or exam ple , i f ruby i s r e quired t o

tation or any other natural law , but one m u st k n ow and unde r stand
the law s g overning it the same a s they w ould other phy sical phenomena .
Like other natural law s , thi s M agnetic-Meridian Law i s so simple that
any one can dem on strate it t o hi s sati sfacti on with out the u se of elab
orate and exp e n sive in strument s; and there i s a scientific exp lanati on
of it al l . The far- reaching effect that thi s law h a s on hum anity cann ot
be expre ssed in w or d s . The fact that it enab le s the phy sician t o diag

very incep ti on , give s him an opp ortunity t o act at the m ost p r opiti ou s
time and in the m ost p r opiti ou s manner . "

Of c our se , magneti sm in centurie s p a st , e specially at the time

of M e smer and hi s c olleague s , w a s thought to have a fluidic effect
and apart fr om vibrati on s had a will of its ow n . T hi s can be seen
fr om the w orks of D r . M oll w h o state s - " . . the w h ole univer se i s
filled with a fluid which i s m ore sub tle than ether , j u st a s ether
i s more subtle than air , and air than w ater . Thi s fluid c onduct s
on s j u st like ether , air , and w ater . A s the vibrati on s of the
ligh t- e ther cause light , and th ose of air cau se ;:;ound s , so the vi

influence which the heavenly b odi e s undi sputedly exerci se on each
other and the earth are caused by the vibrati on s of thi s fluid . One
Animal b ody influenc e s an other by mean s of the vibrati on s of thi s

Thi s the ory of M e smer ' s i s often c onfused with an other the ory of
a fluid . M e smer w a s thinking of a univer sally extended fluid . An

M e smer , alth ough their the orie s are by n o mean s identical . The se
are n ot mere n otions invented and defended by swindler s and fool s .
Many clever men - A . v on Humb oldt , for exam ple - th ought that a
force in the nervou s sy stem c ould p r oduce effect s at a di stance , if
n ot at a great di stance . The w ell-kn own phy si cian and anatomist ,
Reil , held a like view . In any case the m e smeri st s had the sup port
of eminent scienti st s , wh o sup posed a nerv ou s fluid surr ounding men .
Me smeri sm has even quite lately found some adherents am ong eminent
men of science . E d . v on Hartmann is a c onvinced adherent of it , and
found s hi s belief on per sonal experience .

The me smeri st s maintain that slee p need n ot alw ay s b e induced

before a per son can be magnetically influence d ; that the subj ect s
may be th or ou ghly aw ake ; and that thi s i s the di stincti on b etw een
me smeri sm and hypn oti sm . But it sh ould b e said that there is by n o
means alway s a true sleep i n hy pn oti sm . I t i s evident that the old
me smeri st s knew the li ght hyp n otic stage s w ell; they called them mag
netic state s . The me smeri st s al so did n ot u se the per sonal meth od s
exclu sively ; they u sed inanimate obj ect s for magnetizin g , such as the
baquet of M e smer and Puy segur ' s fav ourite m agneti zed tree . T hey
thought that the magnetic force pa ssed into the obj ect fr om the mag
netizer . But when thi s was n ot the case they w ere n ot at a l oss .
When n o magneti zer has t ouched the obj ect , a s i s the case in the
meth od of Braid , then (as M oricourt thinks) the fluid of the subj ect
is reflected fr om the obj ect gazed at , and he i s affected by his own
fluid .

S o- called animal magneti sm has been m ade of p ractical im portance

"It i s said that l ode st one w i.th h one y i s a p urgative medicine and

Further, he state s, " The Hom oe opathic medicine s, including mag

work with cones, e specially a M r . C ameron in C aliforni a . The
Author has al so demon strated the mummifying p r op erti e s of the
pyramidal shape , and thi s i s generally supported in other quarter s .
In one publication on Radie sthe sia (Radie sth e sia C ongre ss) , it
state s . . . "It i s, in fact, an automatically obtained biological effect ,
rather than tho se produced on electronic instruments that Radie sthe sia
c an prove it s reality . T hu s, something· u seful i s done by the exp eri

will bring about desiccation and mummification . When an egg out of
its shell on a saucer i s left b eneath a cardboard model of the Great
Pyramid, the albumin hardens in le ss than a week , w hile in a similar
e gg left in the air elsewhere remains liquid . " From the S up er
S cience Cour se , b y the Author , it i s fully shown how thi s can b e
achieved b y u sing actual model pyramidal form s, w hi ch , for some
strange reason, mu st be in exact p roportion to the Great Pyramid of
Cheop s (Keop s) and mu st be prop erly oriented to face magnetic north .
If two or four pyrami d s are thu s u sed, the re sult i s negative , b ut so
long a s odd numbe r s are u sed, the r e sults are alw ay s p o sitive .
The whole thing i s FACT not fiction, anyone can do it, no special
" secret" p ow e r s are required, it i s a m ethod of utili sing the pow er

Later in thi s book , we will examine an interesting w ork by a

study group of J apane se scienti st s working on the m agnetic theory
that m agnet s do heal, and can have dra stic re sult s w hen p roperly
app lied . In some older p ap e r s in my library , many magnetic app
liance s were made , including magnetic cor se t s for ladi e s (circa 1 8 4 0 ) ,
magnetic brace s for men (circa 1 8 5 5 ) , and m any other s . How ever ,
a s time p a sse s by , we have more and more sci entific knowledge of
the re sult s of cure by magneti sm . In the fir st p lace , the p rob lem w e
have i s t o show three b a sic type s of m agneti sm , w hich the Author
will go into brie fly in the next chapter .

7.
In order to under stand how magneti sm heal s , w e must diff
erentiate between the three b a sic type s .of magnetism , which ,
although different in character , are e ssentially the same . . . . . all
have the property of polarity , power and action on other non
magnetic things .

METALLIC MA GNET IS M

Alm o st everyone know s what m etallic magneti sm i s , b u t w e will

brie fly explain here . It is the arrangement of atom s in a piece of
metal (often iron or steel) in force line s , either by induction by
electro magneti sm or in a natural state ( such as lode stone ) . The
power of the metallic magnet can b e accurately measured by special
i n strument s , the pow er attrib uted to m agne t s i s m ea sured in Gau ss ,
after C . F . Gau ss , a re searcher in thi s field . M etallic magnet s m ay
lose their magneti sm if heated or dropp ed too often , but can b e r e
magneti sed by the u se of electric current (electro-m agneti sm ) . Those
piece s of metal which are hard (iron or steel ) become permanent mag
nets , tho se w hich are soft ( such a s a soft iron b ar ) are termed temp
orary magnet s , b ecau se it requi r e s an electric force running around the
length of it to cau se a magnet to have the de sired r e sults to b e ab le to
have a north and south pole , but a s soon a s the electricity i s switched
off , the soft iron core i s no longer a magnet . How ever , if it i s semi
hard , it can retain some of the magnetic energy .

M agnetic metal s are u sed all over the w o rld for industry , per
sonal u se s , and much more . T hey are by far the most u seful of
the magnetic go od s we have today , and with the advent of plasti c s ,
w e now hav e plastic s w hich exhi bit m agnetic properties in any
manner and in any direction in any power . The reason w hy
p la stic s can b e u sed in thi s w ay i s by the addition of iron to the
plastic itself . . . thu s , giving u s p liable magnetic piece s , from a few
inches to many yards lon g , with a constant magnetic power .
In Fig . 1 , we shall see how the magnetic effects of b ar and hor se-
shoe magnets affect each other . (a) is a b ar m a gnet showing the m ag
netic flow from the pole s (the b lack m arkings are made with iron
filin gs to trace an accurate field) . (b) show s a hors
- e shoe magnet and
the field around the pole s , whilst (c ) show s two b ar magnets side by
side . . . note that the like pole s are thrusting the power aw ay from each
other , i . e . N - N and S - S poles . 8 .

In order that we may unde r stand the facultie s of Per sonal M ag

that is to s ay that there is no pure M an and no Pure Woman . We
have a percentage of each sex within us , and by Radionics it is
pos sib le to find exactly the degree of mas culinity and femininity in
any subject . (This has little or no b earing on the sexual repro
ductivity or homosexual tendancies of any individual , as shown by
the Author in " S exual B alance Problem in Humanity " , 19 45 ) . The
degree of sexual b alance gives rise to the possibility of certain
disease state s attacking one sex mor e than the other , certain ner
vous troub le s affe cting one sex ore than the other , and thus alter
nating the magnetic power of the individual . At first this might
appear complicated . In theory it is and in practice it d oe s not
appear to be so .

If we symboli s e one human being as a cub e (see Fig . 5 ) , this

symbolises a Man , the dividing line vertically is an im aginary line
that would go down the body , m aking the right sidde and the left
side . In a MALE , The right side is described as positive , the
left side is ne gative . In figure 5 , however , the positions are
r ev ersed , as this fi gu re symbolises a Wom an , and in mos t wom en
the right side of the body is termed ne gative , whilst the left side
is termed positive .

However , it is pos sible to discover the percentage of positive or
negative s tructure in any one human b eing . T herefore , Fig . 6 , show s

Once having s atisfied ourselves that w e are all varients of nature ,

it is pos sible also to find out that the degree of vital energy , in this
case magnetism , v aries in every individual . T hi s is one of the reason s
w hy certain individuals are very s trongly attracted to another ! E ven
though both are incompatib le p sy chology-wise and interes t -wise , they
are attracted by their degree of vital force (which has been loosely
termed "Animal magnetism" ) and nothing else . Were this vital force
not pre sent to such a degree , or more b alancing , we would not see the
amount of unequal marriages today .

It may app ear strange that thi s vital force play s a very s trong p art
in the relationship of one person to another , a group or society itself .
Let me further explain .

T aking one individual with another - a married couple - during

this marriage , (apart from p sychological factor s ) , the exchange of

18 .
vital forces in r e productive activitie s can play a very important role
in p roducing diseas eo in either p artner . Perhap s you will look
around and think b ack to all the p eople you know , you might s ay
"Mrs . A has married three time s - all her husb ands died of . . . . .." ,
or " M r . X i s always having a recurrence of the same complaint over
many years" .. . .
. . _ Is it not true then that it is pos sible for the
vital forces of the two persons to be in opposite polarity , and is it
not p os sible that this opposite force can up set the delicate radia
tional force of the body so much as to cause irritation and finally
disease? Of cours e , if you s aid to Mrs . A that she had killed her
three husbands , she would b e shocked . This is a new facet of
nature that we are comimg to unders tand , and in the vital role w e
all p lay i n life , is i t not then pos sible that , even i f tw o persons are
strongly attracte d , they may in fact s till be w rongly polari sed , or
one may be overwhelmingly strong for the other? The p roblem w as
studied some years ago by the Author in a now out-of-print w ork
" The Sexual B alance in Humanity" ( 19 5 0 ) .

Secondly : the natural position of one p erson in a group can

up set or bring harmonics to that group , no matter what their under
taking. How many times have you thought that M r . so and so
up s ets the harmony of YOUR group , or that Mr . X may , in fact ,
increase the harmony of the group ? This is e sp ecially so in a
group of workers . Psychologists might argue that this factor i s
negligib le , for i t is the psychological personality o f the individual
that is felt . Quite s o , but I have known cases of discord even
before the new arrival actually takes any p art in the p roceedings
and the field force reaches the group . B aron von R eichenbach
provided us with an answer in his b ook "The attraction and re
pulsion of certain individuals towards one another is shown in the
conclusive experiments with odic light, as seen by my experimental
sensitives . ...the Red (positive ) light of one p erson can eith e r over
whelm that of another, or can turn the forces of the weaker person ' s
field into an opposite" .

Since this book was first written a great deal h as happ ened in
the World which tends to point out the statements in the aforegoing
p aragraphs , and for one p art of the world or another , the delicate
polarity of peop le s , either in the physical or the mental stability of
s ame , are in a constant state of flux of attraction and repulsion as

19 .
in the case of natural magnetism t o b e found in the earth .
Life is one huge magnet , exi stence is one huge magnet , and the
Universe is als o a magnet - and within all is the turm oil of re
p ulsion and attracti on of the vari ous forces of m agnetic ener g y .

I n recent years the search has b een g oing on am ong the m ore
orthodox s cientis ts to the effect of trying to i solate the non- polarity
magnet , and it s eems that for fracti ons of s e c onds that this has
b een d one . N o d oub t , in time t o c ome , the feature will b e i s olated
but to what use it will be put , few of us w ill p r ob ab ly ever live
t o k n ow ! H ow ever , the questi on " an interest in M agnetism ? " is
increasing every day . It is n ot such a simple thing that we tend t o
l ook up on where w e are handling a small b ar magnet i n the phy si
c al sens e , b ut there is the phy sical , mental and spiritual magnetic
forces that play thr ough out nature .

We hear every day the effects of certain individuals up on the

c ommunity . P sych ol ogists s ay that this p r ob lem is just an anti
s ocial one , but what DRIVE S the se folk t o d o strange things , even
anti - s ocial things that lead eventually t o their destructi on? We may
take a M r . F , w h o has gr own up in good circumstance , w ell re s
p ected , w ell liked b y many up t o a certain p oint i n his life , then ,
for n o apparent rea s on , he s tarts a s eries of anti- s ocial b ehavi our
p atterns that l os e him his j ob , family and s ometimes hi s life in
due c our s e . I am n ot s aying that he can help it , or that other
m otives can be ruled out , but havi ng studied the m agnetic p att
erns of similar cas e s over a number of year s , I have found ( by
Radi onics ) that the force field of that individual can up set the
w h ole s elf , including the higher s elf , and , in extreme cases ,
there is a p oint of no return of s elf-destructi on .

Thus , we have a p attern wherein pers onal magnetism can aff

e ct the indivi dual , the gr oup , or the w h ole of a s ociety , in such a
w ay either t o harm onis e or t o do otherwi se . The intensity of per
s onal magnetis m in the use of Radi oni cs are called RATES , and the
degree of vitality can be accurately measured to a fine degree .
Thus , taking int o c onsiderati on the per s onality and other facts in
an individual , we may estimate the magnetic p otential or the exist
ing magnetic p r opertie s of that individual tested .

20.
THE LIVING MA GNET

The w h ole Universe is built up of magnetic attracti on and re

pulsi on , fr om the large s t of things to the smallest . One of the
most c omplicated stages of universal m agnetic energy is the living
b ody . Note that l stress the LIVING b ody , for the dead b ody has
no magnetism in itself . T hus , w e can see that thr ough a j oint
venture within us , the natural electrical and m agnetic energies are
what we like to l oosely call " the life force" , if we may use the
term " force " . The living pers on i s m ade up of p ositive and neg-
ative force s , depending on the degree of m as culinity or femininity
in the individual, but breaking this d own further , every organ has
its p olarity , and so d oe s every cell .

Fig . 7 .

Fig . 7 s h ow s a typical organ of the b ody ; it has the s ame mag

netic phenomena as any other living thing, i .e . p olarity as c onnected
with ele ctrical and magnetic energies caused by LIVING, or the
interacti on of other b odies ( organs etc . ) w orking with i t , the w h ole
being a m oving mas s , t o which w e attach the w orking b ody and

21.
mind etc . of the living b eing which is YOU The P olarity of the
organ shown i s not dependant on whether the subj ect i s a m ale or
female , but the WHOLE , which i s YOU, does alter w ith this fact of
mas culinity and femininity .

T aking our simple cube design shown earlier , we can see how
the p olarit y of the body in that m arked M , i s quite different from
that m arked F , but betw een M and F stage s there are m any vari
ables . In the further diagram of the actual per son , the p olarities
are generally shown as X for po sitive , and - for negative . In a
female , the s e are generally reversed . The forc e field around the
subject, known as the AURA , c an be affected by externally applied
magnetism .

It is loosely stated that there are upw ards of three auras in the
living person, but , in point of fac t , research has shown that there
is one complete aura, ranging greatly in frequency as it is emitted
by the body . But, for the benefit of metaphysical students who
have always accepted the multiple aura as b eing the b es t w ay to
e xp lain certain functions , w e shall refer the w hole subject in
multiple auras .

The Aura is defined as a haze surrounding every living b ody .

It is normally invisib le , but can be m ade visible either by E . S . P .
vision (which m ay b e controlled by the use of sp ecial s creeens ) or
c an b e s hown against certain coloured b ackgrounds . The aura
varies with every individual in colour , shape and intensity , and
special instruments can re cord the dimensions of this radiation belt .
We m ay lik en the aura to the V al Allen b elt surrounding the earth .

In the work " What the Aura means to You" , w e find a great
deal w hich has gone into aura research , li sted in one w ork of
considerab le m agnitude . Generally sp eaking, there are four auras ,
two of which may b e readily s een w ith speci al s creens under test
conditions . The first man to study these auras at any length i s the
late D r . Kilner, a London Speciali s t , w ho used a s creeen m ade of
Dyacine dye . Unfortunately , however , the dye changes colour when
exposed to light, but , later on, we have in these more modern times,
better and longer lasting s creens .

22 .
We may go b ack over 1 0 0 years to find that B aron von Reichen
bach refers to the "Auras" of magnets and obj ects , as w ell as the
coloured auras around persons . And , in fact , he also mentions
the effect of magnets of the time on the personality of the tested
subj e ct . I quote from his treatise " The Dynamics of M agnetism
and E lectricity" as follow s : -

"If a strong magnet , capable of supporting about ten p ounds , be

drawn downward over the bodies of 1 5 or 2 0 p er sons , without actu
ally touching them , many among them will be affected in a peculiar
manner . The numb er of per sons s ensitive in this reaction is more
than is generally appreciated . To p roduce this effect of m agnetism
on thes e persons is quite indifferent , whether we use a hor seshoe
magnet or a bar magnet , but either p ole will have a different effect .
It has b een shown a great many times that no decep tion is made ,
since some of the movements made with the m agnets h ave been be
hind the per son ' s back , without their knowledge . If a portion of
this p henomena here asserts an influence upon life , this occurs ex
actly and espe cially at the point w here the b oundaries of the organic
and inorganic are intermingled . "

The auras are loosely called - the Inner , secondary and outer
auras . T he inner in the diagram (Fig . 8) is m arked A , the s econd
ary is marked B , and the first outer is m arked B 1 and the outer
(which can actually stretch s everal feet from the owner ) is marked C .
As a simple experiment , turn on your portable radio (not a mains
radio ) , with its aerial extended and shorten or lengthen the aerial
several times during an experiment . Move to the instrument , then
move around it and away from it , and at s ome p oint your aura will
affect the receiption of the station into w hi ch you have tuned .
The strength of the auric reception on the radio depends a great deal
on the health of the subj ect and the length of the receiving aerial ,
but this experiment is put to prove that such a force actually exists
without the use of s cientific data to p rove it . It is possib le , how
ever , with the use of suitable instruments , either s cientific or non
scientific to trace the varied w aveform s of the differing auras in any
living being .

A separate book of mine , entitled "M agic of the Aura" will giv e
more specific information to those who have an enquiring mind into
this fascinating subj ect .

The auras shown in the above diagram vary a great deal in their
spacing in various persons , also variations occur in m ales and fe
m ale s , but, in fact, only one aura e xi sts , merely a change of fre
q uency response i s evident . No doub t , the more s cientifically
minded of my readers might like to experiment further . As in the
case of the neon lamp , which as most folks know doesn • t b urn with
h eat like an ordinary lamp , but glow s . . . . however , the neon lamp
c an be made to w aver in its intensity by merely w aving the h and
near it, or if you actually touch the glass of the lamp , the glow may
diminish rapidly . In certain test conditions , it is pos sible to w atch
the aura on the s creen of the oscilloscope .

However , w e , at this present s tage , will w ant to see the action

of magnetism on the living person, and although the aura subject
itself i s a long study , including colour intensity etc . , the diagram
following s hows the effect of the poles of a b ar m agnet on the
inner aur a , situated only about two inches from the skin .

From the book b y Geo . S tarr-White M . D . , entitled "The

s tory of the Human Aura" he states the followin g : - " General Discus sion
I know that it is - customar y to have the general discussion p recede all
else in a subj ect like this , b ut I purposely gave the definition of the
name and the properties of the subj ect under consideration before giving
the discus sion . " " Inasmuch as this subj ect i s looked upon b y so man y
s cientists a s being " imaginar y" , " subj ective" , " etheric" , "vap oric " ,
etc . , I am purposely leading up to the discus sion and illustration of
this s ubject as carefully and s cientifically as I pos sib l y can . B ecause
certain cults or faddists have had a good deal to say regarding the
aura , (and in fact some have based their religion upon the manifest
ation of the aura ) , is no sign that the subj ect i s not w ell founded . "

25 .
" Modern- day living, with its resulting bustle , and working so
hard to make a living that w e have not time to live, has changed our
natural intuition or perceptions so that the finer p roperties of
Nature are los t from our view . We have evidence in ancient history
and in the p aintings of our oldest masters that they di s cerned in
life what we now call the m agnetic atmosphere , or aura .

M any persons can feel the p sycho-magnetic radiation though they

cannot touch it nor even di spute its existence . The existence of this
p sycho-magnetic radiation is what some call the sixth sense . I wish
I had time to write a volume of s everal thousand p ages giving p roof
that there is such a sense as the sixth sens e , as w ell as giving p roof
that there is such a manife s tation as the aura , p sy cho-magnetic rad
diation or magnetic atmo sphere . Let me give one or two examples : -

You w alk down a lane along which are m any tree s , some
of them large tre e s , you p a s s s treet abutments as w ell as other
view -ob s tructors . You p a s s them all without thinking anything about
them, but suddenly , when opposite a certain one you s top , or show
in your s tep that there is a change of resi stance in your mus cular
movements . If you are inclined to ascertain why you had this
change of resistance come over you j us t then, you look b ehind the
tree or abutment and there you s ee someone w atching you-p erhap s a
thief . You did not see thi s per son , neither did you smell him , nor
hear him . What caused this change of resistance in your muscle s ?
Why did you not hesitate a t some o f the other view -ob structors ?
Here is the reason . " B ecause the magnetic atmosphere from that
individual was of a nature that interferred with the magnetic atmos
phere from your own body " . I t ' telephone d ' to your sub - conscious
ne s s , and thru your sub consciousne s s your mus cle response w as
changed .

Another examp le - Y ou sit in an audience of hundreds or thou

sands of peop le . S om ehow you have a feeling that you w ant to look
in a certain direction even if you have to tw ist your neck to do it .
You look and find your eye m eets the stare of someone w ho is gazing
at you . W hy did you look around? What gave you this feeling? You
neither saw this ob s erver , nor did you smell him , but this radia
tion interferred with your r adiation and thru your sub - cons ciou sness
you involuntarily directed your ey es in his direction .

26 .
S ome call this p r operty " instinct" . I c::tre n ot under w hat name
it goe s . It is an interference of energy- the interference of a psych o
magnetic radiati on c ommunicated t o y ou thru y our sub c onsci ousness .

Again , h ow often we hear or e xp erience such authentic circum

s tances as the following: Y ou w ake up at a certain h our in th e night
with y our mind centered up on s ome one w h om y ou k n ow , even th o he
or she is 3 , 0 0 0 or m ore miles away . Y ou fancy that this p er s on has
met with s ome accident , or ls sick , or s omething has happened to him .
Y ou cann ot get y our mind off it . When the m orning c omes , y ou re
ceive a telegram stating the very c onditi on has taken p lace that y our
s ub c onsci ous c onditi on pictured . D o n ot s ay thi s is a c oincidence !
D o n ot s ay it happens s o seldom that it i s negli gib le!
I kn ow of s o
many such instance s that I c ould fill v olumes relating such narratives . !

Only recently such an occurrence was related t o me and I p r oved

it to be true -where s omething happ ened to a pers on in E ur op e at th e
s ame time that s ome one here had a visi on of it . What caused thi s ?
The p e ople did n ot see 3 , 0 0 0 t o 6 , 0 0 0 or m ore miles aw ay . H ow did
they know it? It is by the p r oj ecti on of thi s s ame atm osp here , but
in a different form . It is influenced by th ought and is the very s oul
or spark of vitality - - life !

In subhuman animals w e call thi s faculty an 'instinct ' , but there

must be s ome phy sical w ay of explaining an instinct . Y ou will s ay
that an animal has a super-sense of smell w hereby it can detect s ome
of the s e things , but I can tell y ou that by actual experimentati on w e
have been able t o s o mask the sense of smell that the animal c ould
n ot tell anything by that faculty and yet w ould find what they w ere
directed to find . Ordinarily they w ould d o it by their highly dev
eloped sense of smell , but w e have found that m any animals have a
s ense m ore subtle than that of s mell .

T o th os e w h o do n ot beli eve any thing they cann ot w ork out in the

lab oratory , or cann ot see with the micr os c ope or analy s e , I can s ay
that there is m ore bey ond the micr os c op e than the micr os c op e has
every found or ever will be able to find . The distance b ey ond th e
range of the m os t p ow erful micr os c op e is as great in relati on t o the
Infinite as the sp ace b ey ond the visi on of the m os t p ow erful tele s c op e .
B e caus e we fail t o see things i s n ot rea s on w hy w e s h ould b e s o

narrow minde d as to not reali ze that there is much more beyond the
microscope or the teles cope than we have yet dreamed of.

Can the materialist who will believe nothing he cannot find out
in a p hy sical w ay tell how a dog can find his m aster ' s footstep s in
a crow ded street among thousands of other step s ? He must admit
that there are manifestations , or elements , w hich are far b eyond
our understanding and far out of reach of any chemical or micro
s copical analy si s .

B ecause there have been false p rophets , or sooth- s ayers , or

magicians , or whatever the name they go under , who had a smatter
ing of the knowledge of the magnetic atmosphere and imposed upon
the credulous p eop le , is no sign that the s cience is not w ell founded . "

With modern magnetic equipment , it i s possible to obtain any

typ e of reaction to the living tis sue . In using natural magnetism in
this field , we may find a method of s timulation of the life force to
overcome many illne s se s . In order to understand the Auric field ,
some research may be done by the most inexperienced layman . One
of the main methods is to view the aura through a s creen , much in
the s ame way as Dr . Kilner mentioned earlier . If you have a piece
of dark cloth (velvet is best) , get a friend to p lace his hands a few
inches from the dark surface ; thi s , in turn , should be situated so
that the light from a window will not fall on this surface - look through
a mauve aura s creeen at the light for a few moments to sensitise the
eye s , then , removing the mauve s creeen , look at the hands of your
friend and you will see a s moky haze coming from the finger tip s .
If you have not the convenience of a friend , you may do the experi
ment yours elf , by looking through the mauve screen at the light first
( NOT dire ctly at the Sun) , and then p lace the hands , fingertips
touching a few inches from the dark material , then very slow ly move
the fingers apart and you will see a smoky haze of a definite colour
b eing emitted by the fingers , the se w ill be j oined to one another of
the corresponding hand , and as you move each hand aw ay from the
other , it will be s een that the aura gets thinner until it finally cannot
be s een . You may , at will , after a few experiments , intensify this
aura by imagining it getting s tronger ....and it will . The following
diagram is designed to s how the relative p ositions of the cloth and
hands in relation to the light .

28.
Fig . 10 .

If a group of people intere sted in auric VlSlOn sit around a tab le

covered with a dull black cloth , e xisting auric sensitivity can read
ily be noticed . Ask each person to p lace their hand , p alms down
on the cloth and relax , and try to visualise the aura around the
fingertip s of one person in the group . The s ensitive person chosen
will appear to have radiating hands ; the fact that a group i s p re s
ent makes one person ' s auric field greater if mental p ow er is added
to the idea .

Thus , we can see that there IS an auric field , and it can b e

affe cted b y magnetism; in fact , it may b e increased or decreas ed
by natural or artificial means . From " T he E lectronic Medical
Digest" 1 9 1 6 , we read:

"All living cells are m ade up of two coloidal solutions , the cyto
plasm and the nucleus , s ep arated by a membrane . T he cytop lasm
is alkaline in reactions . "
The last quote in this chapter comes from the b ook "New C oncepts
in Diagnosis and Treatment" by Albert Abrams w ho states : -

" HUMAN ENE R GY Investigations of all ages have es poused the theory
-

of HUMAN RADIATIONS . To some , the organism i s compared to a

Voltaic battery which emits something akin to electricity .
The hagiolosit conciliates the reality of radiations by referring to the
auras in ancient pictures around the heads and b odies of Chri st and
the s aints .

29 .
The phenomena of light in m ateriali zation have b een witnessed
and accepted by notable s cientists as spiritistic phenomena. Of
superstition , it has been s aid , that it i s true p sychology with the
wrong dre s s .

The writer is convinced that the phenomena are realities inde

p endent of di sembodied spirits and can be referre d to the manifest
ations of human energy . Disocculting the occult will b e pos sible
when one attains a better understanding of the activities of living
cells and when the biologist shall know the law s that govern cell
growth with the accur acy of the s cientist knowing his law s .

The depths of the sea teem with luminous fish , crustaceans and
zoophytes (animal light ) .

Luminous phenomena (PHOTIS M S ) have been coincident with

many conversions .

T he theory of exteriorization is supported by the occulist in his

reference to the perispirit and astral body .

Every individual , it is maintained , is envelop ed in a radiance

(Aura ) invisible to the carnal eye and only p erceived by the soul
accustomed to it . Perception of the aura is the supposed p rerogativ e
of clairvoy ance but Kilner has shown that any one can observe the
"ATMO S P HERE " surrounding the human body by aid of chemical s creens
notably , one: containing a solution of dicyanin which , by p artially p ara
lyzing the retinal rods and cone s causes visibility of the aura in a
darkened room .

Kilner doe s not explain the auric force .

The aura is prob ably ener gy-discharge . In a letter from

Dr . Kilner , the latter ob serve s : " Your opinion that the
aura is only energ y emanating from the body corresponds
entirely with mine , only I have expressed it i.n a different
manner . I have tried to see it on the dead body but have
always failed to do so . "

30 .
In health the aura is symmetrical . In HYS TERIA , the aura
instead of gradually diminishing and reaching its narrowest
limits not higher than the lower h alf of the thigh (as in
health ) , suddenly contracts to i ts final b readth at a short
distance from the pub e s . In EPILE P S Y , at any time , the
width of the aura is markedly increased on one side which
inequality is more conspicuous in w omen than in men (Kilner ) .

The N -ray s of Blondlot , supposed to emanate from the body and

detected by the fluoures cence of a phosphorescent screeen , h ave
been relegated to oblivion . The w riter s ' investigations w hich pre
ceded tho se of Blondlot were abandoned owing to the difficult of
eliminating the per sonal equation w hi ch p ermitted one to p erceive
what one exp ected to per ceive (expectant attention ) .

Holme s , I as sume , is sponsor for the epigram that some p eop le

believe that their p ersonality is limited by their phy sical exterior
but as far as he hims elf w as concerned , it extended some distance .
Leon Deni s , contended that , the psychical b eing is not confined
within the limits of the body but that radiations are exteriorized
like the Hertzian w aves . T hey arous e impres sions in s ensitive
p eople varying according to the dynamic condition of such persons ;
visions , voices or movements . The latter conception corresponds to
that of Reichenbach and others , respecting a force variously called
odic , vital , electric and m agnetic which is exteriori zed in an un
limited field and manife sted by varied mediumistic or p sychological
phenomena .

B araduc contends that each s egment in our organism (cerebral ,

pulmonary , gastric and genital) , has a radio- activity of its ow n ;
an area of vibrations varying i n nature ; that , owing to their
power of emanation , they m ay exert a telep athi cal influence , a kind
of wirele s s telegraphic action over the p as sive radioactivity of
another p erson in a condition of vital hyopotension . Grasset cite s
the following from B ue (Le . M agneti sm e curatif) : " One m ay easi ly
get a clear idea of the impres sion made on p lants by our radiant
action , by operating with hyacinth or tulip bulbs " .

In his spectroscopic s tudies of the human ray s , Hooker con

tends that the colour of the radi ations are utilizable in determining
definite temperamental conditions .

31.
C lerk-Maxwell , ob s erved that progres s was symb oli zed in th e
clock , the b alance and the foot-rule . Implying thereby , if w e
could time , w eigh and measure , facts i n lieu of theories could b e
submitted . Until ob servations are expressed numerically , all data
concerning radiations must be limited to the realm s of speculation11 •

MODERN IDEAS ABOUT MA GNETISM

From the pub lication by B S RA (U . S . A . ) we note a few remark s

about the use of c arbon rods and magnets .

Horne Wilson s ay s 11I may m ention that a rod of carbon w hich

has its molecular condition altered in a similar w ay into a magnet ,
has a mos t remarkable effect on b ody deflections . If held in the
right hand , it produces a positive reaction in the test m eter , and
if held in the left hand , produces a negative reaction . It evidently
charge s the body with the m agnetic ener gy , depending on the
polarity and condition of the individual . 11

In another article in the 11M edi cal Times11 , 11this form of energy
(magnetic ) will rai s e nerve currents to normal . The m agnetic rod
held in the right hand acts as a s timulant , and the left hand as a
s e dative . 11

We see from 11Vitic11 , p age 4 , the following:

11Magnetism applied to the left side of the body stimulates the heart
action , but only so long as the body remains within the magnetic
field . T he p rop erties of m agnetic iron ore , and perhap s these
p roperties were known to the C hine se in olden times and earlier to
the Greek s . If two magnetic rods are held , the effect is to give
deci sive action of recuperation that will last up to 12 hours in any
given individual . 11

From August 1 9 6 4 edition of 11p endulum11 we read - MENTAL

HEALTH AND MA GNETIC FIELDS - P sychiatric disturbances - at

32 .
le ast as shown by hospital admi s sions - can be significantly related
to the intensity of the E arth ' s m agnetic field , reports D i scovery
(January 1 9 6 4) . P rofe s sors H . Friedman , R . 0 . B ecker and C . H .
Bachman give the results of a study of 2 8 , 64 2 admis sions into eight
New York hospitals in the period July 1 19 5 7 to O ctob er 3 1 , 19 6 1 ,
reporting their findings in N ature , November 1 6 , 1 9 6 3 .

The New York team comp ared the admis sions to the hospitals
over 7 , 1 4 , 2 1 , 2 8 and 3 5 - day periods , during times of intense m ag
netic disturbances . They found a surprisingly high correlation b e
tween the numb er o f day s with magnetic storms i n any o n e p eriod
and the number of admis sions . They also suggest that since the
relationship become s more significant with the longest period , the
full effect of the magnetic storms i s not shown until nearer 35 day s
than s even .

T here are so many variables in such a b road survey that the

relationship between geomagneti sm and human behaviour i s by no
me ans p roven . Evidence is gradually accumulating that the low er
ranks of the animal kingdom detect and respond to magnetic fields ,
b ut little is known of their effect on m an . Even the little evidence
w hich does exist has not been subjected to a rigorous statistical
examination .

"Techniques Nouvelle s " of B ru s sels for August reports that a

Hungarian named lmre O rmenyi has recently stated in Budap e s t that
solar eruptions intensify the s equence of typical symptom s such as
depression , dementia , skin inflammations and cereb ral hemorrhages
as s hown in phases corresponding to the w aves of electro m agnetic
radiations reaching the E arth during such disturbance s .

A recent article in the London pres s stres sed the important

effe cts of changes in gravitic and m agnetic fields on health .

ABSTRACT OF BIO - MA GNETIC S SYMP O S IUM IN JAPAN

" Study of effe ct of magnetism on living bodies" - " I t has b een w e ll

investigated for a long time that various physical phenomena have
influence upon living b odies . T herefore , it is w ell know n that such

33 .
physical phenomena as electricity , light , heat and radiant ray s , act
upon living bodies .

On the one hand , the s tudy of magnetism has p rogressed re

markably and above all , the research of ferrite (oxide powder magnet)
is well studied , and its use for Indus try is widely applicated . In
Japan , it is recogni sed that the study of m agnetism h as developed as
compared with other fields .

Recently , our co-workers S hoichi T anaka and Akira S akiyama ,

members of the Institute of E lectro-Magnetism S tudy , introduced the
magnet treatment , using the perm nent magnet . Therefore , they
designed the laboratory s tudy showing the relationship b e tw een mag
netism and living bodies .

Vermeiren explains in these experiments that the change of the

fluid fluxing in the magnetic field t akes place by the change relation
to the velocity of the power . We then developed the res earch into
thinking that a p art of a living body might be affected more than
another if p laced with the magnetic field ; thi s shows interesting
pos sibilities for further re s earch . "

" The Growth of Yeast in a M agnetic Field"

" The influence of a magnetic field upon living organisms was

s tudied by E dw art in 1 9 0 3 , that protoplasmic streaming w as an ele
trical phenomenon . He found that certain elongated p lant cells swung
in the direction of an applied m agnetic field . In 1 9 3 0 , S sawostin
confirmed this and found that he could accelerate or retard it . He
attributed the acceleration to an increased rate of chemical action ,
the retardation to friction b etw een the protoplasm and the cell walls ,
as it attemp ted to turn toward a s tab le polar position . He also
found that he could s timulate the growth of a wheat seedling by
applying magnetism to its base .

We find in controlled exp eriments at the C ornell University , that

when yeast cellls are placed on a surface of a favourable solid
medium , the m agnetic field of a small horse shoe magnet , the mag
netism retards the rate of bud formation by a s much as 30 per cent .
The most probable explanation is that some essential molecule s in

34 .
the living cell are moved out of the sphere of he molecules of e ach
neighbouring typ e , thus interrupting the normal p rogre s s of building
up of the protoplasms . 11

The Author has done a great deal of re search over the p ast two
decade s into radiation and its affect on the living tis sue , even at a
dis tance . E arly experiments showed how one may discover that the
effe cts of magnetism are truly REAL and not imagination , since some
e xperiments were done with applying the energy to living plants of
various kinds . Over the years , it has been found that one may use
m agnetism in any w ay so desired by the exp erimenter , once the
common law is di s covered , and the resulting information given in the
correct dosage for the specific complaint .

Some of the early experiments involved the use of coloured lights

and controlled magnetic energy , and thi s w as done in the follow ing
wat by illustration of coil etc .

It is known that light i s electro-magnetic in nature , and electri
city also p roduces magnetism , b oth intensities of which can be con
trolled . By the use of a closed b ox arrangement , inside which
there was a high intensity light (suitable light temp erature for col
our healing ) , which w as further intensified by an adjustab le p ara
bolic mirror . As you can s ee from the i llustration , in front of the
box is a tube through which t11e light will h ave to p as s . Around
this tube is a coil of wire , which , in turn , is connected to a s ep
arate electric circuit with suitable controls , etc .

It was reasoned that if we have light travelling at high sp eed

through the tub e , and we induce a s tatic m agnetic field into the coil
around the tub e , then the resulting s tatic m agnetism must be carried
along to some extent with the light , which , in fact , happened . The
intervention of coloured s cr eens s lowed dow n or accelerated the
p a s s age of the magnetism . R ed tended to increase the intensity ,
w hilst green and b lue tended to decrease the intensity .

Further , with the u s e of radi es thesi a , it w as discovered that if

one p laced a homoeopathic or similar rem edy w ithin the static m ag
netic field , the remedy ene r gy also w as carried on the m agnetic
w ave , and a s eries of test treatments p roved the p oint . However ,
as time p as sed , more sophisti cated techniques and instruments have
shown the p rinciple to be correct , and thi s has b een improved upon .
And now , one may u s e the method even to give R adionic B roadcasting
treatment .

Further interesting improvements have b een m ade over the y ears

with the use of an improved coil , as illustrated above in Fig . 1 1 , by
which one may use colour filters to obtain m agnetic treatment by
amp lification with the coil . However , more data on this is given
under appliances section of thi s publication .

MAGNETIC S YMPATHY (Latent Instinct )

It is known that animals of different genera and even classes of

orders , often exhibit an attachment very similar to that ob served b e
tween a magnetiser and h i s sub j ect; and they also show very un-

36 .
accountable antipathies , both to men and animals .

In fact , there would appear to e xist among animals and p rimitive

. man some means of communicating unknown to us " consciously" .
This has been ob s erved in all animals and is usually as crib ed to
' instinct' . B ut , what i s instinct? In the dog , this p eculiar s aga
city has been much noticed because the dog is so much in contact
with man , but there is hardly any animal or tribe of p rimitive man
which doe s not exhibit it , and in regard to w hi ch it has not b een
recorded . T he C ourts of Justi ce and p unishment of rook s , th e move
ment of birds of P ardise , the immediate knowledge of events affect
ing a member , which is to be found amongst the other memb ers of a
primitive family , even though they m ay b e sep arated by m any mile s ,
'
and hundreds of analogous facts , p oint to some p eculiar influen ce .
How does a dog trace , not only his m as ter , but anything which his
master has touched and commanded him to s eek , even though it b e
concealed? How doe s a dog or cat , carried a great distance b y s e a ,
or in a b ag , find its w ay home by the direct route? If we ascrib e
to s cent , the dog ' s p ower to trace i ts master , the degreee of s cent
required is so great that it amounts to a new s cent; for , it will
after long confinement , often go to w here it last s aw its m aster and
finding him not there , will nevertheles s trace him , through m any
p laces , until it finds him . We cannot suppose s cent to b e the agent .

T he writer is inclined to as cribe many of the m arvels of latent

instinct , as e xpressed through the instrument of radiesthesia , to
magnetic symp athy , which , there is reason to b e lieve , is very active
and powerful in all living creatures .

Most radiesthesi sts will readily admit that they are unable to
arrive at a s atisfactory conclusion or diagnosis in their investiga
proximately one-third of their clients or p atients .
The reason for this lack of seeming m agnetic symp athy b ecomes
apparent upon closer investigation into the p sy cholgical make-up of
the individual .

It would appear that during our e arly life , our characters deve
lop into two main group s , the extravert (positive ) personalities , and
the introvert (negative ) personalities - but b efore going further , I
will ende avour to elucidate .

It would app ear , from tests , that w e all commence life with an
extravert (positive) p ersonality and that as w e mature , approximately
one-third of us develop a contrary or intravert (negativ e ) persona
lity . This development tak e s p lace at various ages and is doubtless
influenced in its cour s e by our individual reactions to life , by our
surroundings , by the atmosphere in which w e live , by the general
of our parents and other s having influence over us (this
b eh aviour

i s one direction in which we appear to be influenced by the Sins of

the Fathers ) and by inheritance facts (here , again , the sins or
otherwise of the fathers may w ell show their influence ) .

In general , there are only the two m ain group s of character in

the human r ace , and the s e are the extravert (positiv e ) and the intra
vert (ne gativ e ) - in the proportion of two extravert (positive) to one
intravert (ne gative ) - b ut s elf-discipline in the individual may appear
to create m any artificial and confusing variations .

T he extravert (positiv e ) personality is governed in the m ain by

the following - or s everal of the following - impulse , art , credulity ,
sentiment , lib erality , trust and idealism . He approaches life from
an objective point of view . His interest is centered in things an d
happenings outside him self . When a problem is encountered , then
his centre of awareness is in the problem and in the facts connected
with it . The goal of all his endeavours and hi s whole experience ,
arises from things apart from him self . He is not deeply conscious of
his own individuality , and although he m ay at times appear s elfish ,
even this results from his overwhelming urge to approach the objects
of his desire , rather than the wish to achieve them for his ow n use .

The intravert (negative ) personality is quite different . He i s

governed i n the main b y the following o r several o f the following: -
c aution , incredulity , sceptism , materialism , self-view and mistrust .
Hi s interest is centered in himself . When a problem is met , he does
not weigh all the concrete facts ; ins tead , he searches for thos e p oints
w hich have a significance in his life . He erects a barrier b etw een
hims elf and the outside world ; p as sing thi s barrier , all things are
coloured by his own ideas about them . Like that of the extrovert
(p ositive ) p ersonality , his life is completely one-sided , excep t where
influenced by self- di s cipline .

38 .
T here are three methods of determining one group from the other .
The first and most reliable method i s by the use of a very sensitive
galvanomete r ; the second is by means of R adiesthesia and the third
is by p sychological assessment - by far the s low est method - b ut
with practice , the posses sor of p sy chic sense often di spenses with
all three of the se methods by virtue of his natural ability to detect
the opposite .

The Galvanometer T est (P sychogalvanic Resp on se

The most reliable method of determining one group from the

othe r , and one which cannot be influenced by " self dis cip line" in
the individual , is to use a very s ensitive galvanometer ; having a
resistance of ten ohms or less . No b attery is required , since the
natural current circulating in the Aura or m agnetic field of the
human body is quite sufficient for the purpose of the test .

To prep are for the test , attach two leads of low resistance flex
ible wire to the terminals of the galvanometer , and to the opposite
ends of the se leads attach two short brass rods . T he recipient of
the test must hold one rod in the left hand , w ith the lead tow ards
the centre of the body , and the other rod in the right hand , likewi se .
The galvanometer should b e " centr ally set and positioned " , with the
needle p ointing away ; the dial is then in the correct position for
reading.

If the skin of the subj ect is very free from moisture - due to
changing action of the sweat glands - then it m ay be difficult to
pick up the current in the vicinity of the h an ds alone , and it m ay be
nece s s ary for him to hold the rod in his left h and with its end
against the left side of his tongue , and the rod in his right hand
with its end against the right side of his tongue ; the reaction of
the galvanometer will then be immediate . If the needle swings to
the right , this denotes that the current surrounding the subject
rotate s to the rl gh t - clockwi se - and that he is an extravert
(p ositive ) pers onality (and s tudy of his home and away life will
prove this to be the cas e ) , but if the needle swings to the left ,
then the opposite i s the case , and he i s an introvert (negativ e )
personality (here again , the study of h i s home and away life will
provide the proof) .

39 .
The needle of the galvanometer may register from one to thirty
degrees or more , but the s trength of the current picked up in the
vicinity of the tongue will always be greater than that picked up by
the hands , since the moi sture enab le s a b etter contact to b e made
with the circulating current .

The current can b e picked up without direct contact with the

but not in sufficient strength for a satisfactory
s urface of the body ,
test with the galvanometer .

In the event that the currents circulating in the subj ect are too
w e ak for a s atisfactory test , then it i s neces sary for him to " recharge
his nerve cell s " ; this he can do b e st by tensing the muscles while
breathing deeply in the open air .

The T est by R adiesthesia

The aura or magnetic field of the human body has b een p roven ,
by the p sy cho- galvanic respons e and by careful study of the indivi
duEl , to rotate in a clockwise direction in the case of the extravert
(positive ) personality and in an anti-clockwise direction in the case
of the intravert (negativ e ) personality . It i s thus pos sible to settle ,
by means of radiesthesia , any doubt w hi ch m ay have arisen in one ' s
mind a s to the definite group o f characteristics to which an individual
m ay b elong . For this purpo s e , a sk the subj ect of the test to hold an
aerial lead- in or a piece of electrical flex in the left hand with the
p alm downwards .

Hold the pendulum over that end of the lead-in or flex w hich is
nearest to the heart (inw ards ) , and if it rotates in a clockwise direc
tion , then the subj e ct is an extravert (positive) p ersonality - since
this denotes the p ositive or advancing direction or rotation of th e
aura or magnetic field (current) , b ut should the pendulum os cillate ,
then the rever s e is the case . (Not every radiesthe sist works to
the s ame reactions but thos e with a " difference" can achieve the
equivalent re sults ) . (The most s ensitive typ e of p endulum for the
p urpose is a s mall magnet attached to about five inches of thread
and with the positive end downw ards ) . I am assuming that the
reader is acquainted with r adie sthesia and will take the necess ary
p recautions to avoid the intervention of metal obj ects or auto-suggestion.

40 .
In recent years , the late M r . F . A . Archdale , an exponent of
radiesthesia , was taken to task for speaking of the positive and
ne gative ends of a piece of flex when held in the hand . But , he
was quite correct , as the reader will reali se from the information
given above , though a piece of flex by itself is neutral .

P sy chologi cal A ss e s sment

This i s the slowe s t method of all , and I do not think that i t is

nece s s ary for me to elaborate . It involves the careful study of the
p articular personality - w ell known to s tudents of p sy chology .

This method has b een used i n checking the results of experiments

w ith the galvanometer and with radiesthesia over a p eriod of time ,
and has proved that a test of the galvanic response i s by far the
quicker and mos t reliab le method , with radiesthesia running it very
clo s e ; since neither method is influenced by s elf-discipline in the
subj ect tested .

S ummary

I have now dealt with the two character group s and the methods
of discrimination . (In practice , the healer or operator m ay find that
neither of the se methods is obj ectively nece s s ary , since many of us
possess the p sy chic ability to sense the opposi te . S o often is this
ability spoken of in busine s s and in p leasure ) .

It will readily be ob s erved that the two group s are in a state of

" p erpetual disharmony" , owing to the developments referred to earlier ,
and which have evolved an " opposite of outlook" amongst the ethereal
ingredients of mankind , beyond the individual ' s objective influence
(except that it can be more " s ecurely hidden" by the adoption of
false characteristics through s elf-discipline and w hich i s not changed
during mature phy sical life . H ence , the p ercentage of failures in
diagnosis and in treatment , since that where real harmony does not
e xist b etw een healer and p atient , then a cure is less likely to b e
achieved .

41 .
Direct H ealing by " M agnetic Sympathy "

When it is desired to perform the act of healing by "M agnetic

Sympathy" , the operator mu st concentrate his mind upon the desired
result and , at the s ame time , place hi s hands li ghtly round the
subj ect' s neck , in such a position that the finger tips touch b ehind
the subj ect ' s neck and the thumb tips in front . S h ould the sub j e ct ' s
neck be too large for this method , then it is nece ssary for th e
operator to p lace his hands lightly at the b ack of the subject ' s head
and around the region of the subj ect ' s medula oblongata . A few
seconds application should suffice , b ut w hen neces s ary , application
can be repeated at intervals , until the desired result is obtained .
In some awk ward cas es , and with some extra-sensitive operators ,
it may be neces sary to hold the hands a little aw ay from the Medula
Oblongata of the subj ect with something to do (e . g . , moving a
sound limb - or something to think about (the w eather , politics ,
etc . ) in order to " occupy the attention of the subj ect ' s sub - conscious
mind" , thu s overcoming in advance any sub cons cious opposition .

This method of healing will b e found to afford relief from di s

comfort , in varying degreee , in almost 1 0 0 % o f cases - usually
1 0 0 % relief in rheumatic - not arthritic - and other nervous di s
eases , and to a le s s er degree , in more physi cal complaints . S hould
the symptoms , once relieved , return after a short interval (e . g . ,
an hour , a day or . . . . . . ) then it is a sign that a pre-disposing
cause i s deep- rooted and must be removed by continued appli
cations of " Magnetic Symp athy " or by N ature Cure , or by H omoeo
p athy or even , on occasion by physiological medicine , or as a la st
re sort - in some hopele s s ly neglected or overlooked cases - by
surgery , before final relief can be afforded . Once the pre-disp osing
cause is removed , however , then magnetic symp athy will m ake
final and definite disposal of all side and after effects .

MAGNE TISM IN AN CIENT CHINA

All · Chine se me dicine is based upon the study of the YN and th e

YANG , i . e . . the Positive and N egative for ce s . The healers of th e
Cele stial Empire consider remedies as so many conductors , either

42 .
of the YN or the YANG , and u s e them with the obj ect of expelling the
di sease from the body . There is an instance in their medical work s
of a cure without the use of M edicine at all , with no other conductor
than a piece of tub e , and without the D octor ever seeing the p atient .
I translate the following from a work wri tten during the S uoi dyna
s ty which reigned from the 6th to the 7th centures of our era , th ey
even therefore took place about ten centuries ago .

A Mandarin of high rank had a dearly b eloved wife whom h e

s aw failing i n health more and more each day . H e tried to p ersuade
her to see a Doctor of the time , but she firmly refused . Upon enter
ing her husband' s home , she had taken a vow never to allow another
man to see her , and she was most determined to keep to her w ord .

The M andarin consulted Doctors of the time , but none could help
her . One day , there came , an old S cholar who offered to cure th e
M andarin ' s wife , without even coming into her apartment , p roviding
s he consented to hold the end of a long B amboo tub e , the other end
would be held by the healer . The husband thought this cure
s trange , but consented .

The scholar came with his tub e and p a s sing one end through the
p artition of the room , told her to apply it to her b ody in every p art
until she felt a sensation . S h e follow ed the directions and as soon
as the tube was applied to the Liver area she experienced a severe
p ain that caused her to groan , she was told not to let go her hold
on the tub e and to keep the end on the spot . H aving been sub -
j ected to the treatment for a quarter o f a n hour , h e retired , p romi sing
to come b ack the next day at the s am e hour - he came back for 6
oc casions until she was cured .

The narration was translated from the Chinese by Father Amiot ,

and the case was also mentioned in C ount de Puy s egar ' s volume on
"Animal M agnetism" .

The narrative is an admirable ins tance of m agnetic treatment ,

with the tube to s erve as a method of transporting the vital mag
netic fluid , and applied each day at the SAME HOUR . H ere , the
Homeopathic aggravation was produced from the firs t . The infer
ence of the article is that ancient Chinese m edi cine w as w ell

43 .
acquainted with the fact that every living thing possesses a degree
of " fluid" , depending on the Universal m agnetism disseminated through
out all space .

A s they gave the names YN and YANG to the two opposing

p olaritie s , which are now recognised in the terrestrial fluid , as w ell
a s i n the nervous male up of M an . T hey lnew , b esides , that each
individual could dispos e of the fluid , p rovided that he h ad acquired
the knowledge , that they could , at will , by directing it , mak e certain
a quantity p a s s e s into the p atient ' s body , and unite with the fluid of
the p atient , and they could use thi s method , with the exclusion of all
m e dicines to b ring about the polarity of all p olaritie s .

A still more remarkable thing - they had , then , the secret little
known even among our most learned m agneti sers (or h ealer s ) the
power to s end either Positive or N egative fluid into the body of the
p atient , thus enabling a cure to be m ade .

HOW ALTERNATING MAGNETIC ENERGY A FFE C T S

LIVING TIS S UE

M agnetic field-producing devices of various kinds h ave b een

proposed over a numb er of year s and m any of them have b een de
nounced as having no effect on disease conditions . This p rob ab ly
was justified in many cases b ecause of faulty design . However ,
thos e making the criticisms in m any instances are p artly at fault in
not distinguishing b etw een different kinds of m agnetic fields and
energy , and in not understanding how the fact- changing m agnetic
field does affect inj ured tissue s .

All living cells are made up of two colloidal solutions , the cyto
p lasm and the nucleus , s ep arated by a s emipermeable membrane .
The cytop lasm is the alkaline in its reaction and negative in its
electrical charge . The nucleus is comparatively acid in its reaction
and comparatively positive in its electrical charge . Hugo Fricke
(J . G en . P hy siol . , 1 9 2 4 , vi . pp . 7 4 1 - 4 6 ) has shown that the ions and
electrons present in the cell are indicated as accumulations of ele
trical charge s . Certain p arts of the cell are alw ay s positive and
other parts always negative .

44 .
According to M athews (Physiological Chemis try , New Y ork , 1920) ,
these electrical char ges are produced in the cell by oxidation , and
accumulate on the opposite sides of the lipoidal dividing m embrane of
the «':!ell , much the s ame as a charge is held on a conden ser in a
radio device .

Crile (A Bipolar Theory of Living Tissue , N ew York , 1 9 2 6 ) say s

that oxidation and the consequent acidity are p rimarily p arts o f the
most fundamental p rocesses of the cell . H e then concludes that the
primary function of the cell i s to fabricate electrical energy by the s e
ioni zing procedures much t h e same as i s done with t h e acids and
bases of the man-made b attery .

This tis sue cell , therefore , consists in a negatively -charged

colloidal cytop lasm surrounding a p ositively charged colloidal nu
cleus and s ep arating them is an insulating lipoid membrane . O xida
tion in the life proces s of the cell p rovides the nece s sary chemical
and p hy sical actions to p roduce negative ioni zation in the cytop lasm
and a relatively positive ioni zation in the nucleus .

Atoms in the make-up of the carbohy drates and w ater in the

cells provide the source for hydrogen ions concentration in oxid ation .
E ach living cell requires a certain hydrogen ion concentration for
its normal activity and even a s light change in thi s concentration
fundamentally alters the cell . Any change in the oxidation taking
p lace in the cell affects its pH concentration , its p roduction of heat ,
its acidity and its electrical charge . When this change in oxidation
goe s beyond the normal limits for the p articular cell , injury tak e s
p lace in the cell .

O xidation is increased by exertion , emotion s , infections and

injections of foreign proteins . E lliott (J . Phy siol . , 1 9 0 5 , xxxii , pp .
4 0 1- 6 7 ) , C rile (sup ra ) , and others ascribe the increas e of oxidation
to a s timulation of adrenalin thrown into the blood . With this in
crease in oxidation the resultant e lectrical charges are correspond
ingly high .

As a result of di sease or injury affecting b ody tis sue , oxidation

and the accomp anying electrical charges are too high for normal
functioning of the cells . Where ioni zation and the electrical charges

45 .
are too far from the normal for the p rotective mech anism of the b ody
to 1·estore the normal , outside help must b e given . It i s urged that
alternating magnetic energy , medicine , and other corrective treat
ments may provide this needed help .

In thos e diseases such as the infection s , etc . , where there i s

excessive oxidation , there is a n e xc e s sive electrical charge b uilt up
in the cells . T hi s i s manife sted in a too high positive p otential on
the nuclear side and a too high negative potential on the cytop lasmic
side of the lipoid membrane for the cells . The charge is above the
normal for the cell . This state presents a condition somewhat res
e mb ling a p ermanent b a r m agent for our p urpose here . The magnet
has one end p ositive and the other negative and much above th e
normal for a s teel or iron bar

A natural property of alternating magnetic energy is to fluctuate

in intensity so that an e lectrical current p roduced by this energy
changes in polarity with the alternations . If , therefore , a bar magnet
is brought into such an alternating field , the latter alternately b oosts
and tends to tear down the fixed p olarities of the m agnet . After a
time , the tearing down predominates and it is found that the mag
netism of the magnet i s lost . It i s dem agneti sed and changed to a
normal bar .

When there i s an inflammatory p roce s s in a tissue , the nuclear

p ositive potentials and the cytoplasmic negative potentials are greatly
increased due to an increase in o xi dation . These abnormal electrical
charge s in the cells often interfere with the repair w ork in reducing
the inflammation . Bringing such a tissue into a swiftly changing
magnetic field reduce s the abnormal p otentials in the cells in a
manner similar to that in tearj ng down the polarities of the perm a
nent magnet .

M agnetic energy i s not oscillatory and has no recurring fre

quencie s . It requires no tuning a s doe s electromagnetic energy .
The swiftly changing magnetic field can be built up in strengths to
quickly reduce the high electric cell charges to relieve p ain , swe lling,
and other di s comforts in cuts , bruises and injuries . Its use is not
indicated where the e lectrical cell charges are b elow normal , such
as in low vitalH y , Addison ' s disease , etc .

46 .
T o the best of our information , D r . B anchialet (france , 19 1 7 ) was
the fir s t to sugge st the u s e of quickly - changing m agnetic energy for
treating cuts , b rui se s , and infections to reduce p ains , sw elling and
relieve infections . A little later , the American C ar and Foundry C o . ,
brought the idea to this country and has used these alternating current
magnets in their B erwi ck , P ennsy lvani a , p lant clinic for a number of
years .

Prof . R . A . Muttknow ski of the Univer sity of D etroit , according to

an editorial in S cience News Letter , recently in a talk b efore th e
American As sociation for the Advancement of S ci ence , toJ d how he used
the magnetic energy from the p owerful electromagnets to treat mutilated
·
flat worms . He described that the lost body p arts regrew more rapidly
under the influence of the s trong alternating m agnetic field than those
untreated , or " controls" .

METHODS AND APPLIANCES

Methods - (U sing magnetism in daily life )

In order to avoid confusion , I have sep arated methods from appli

ance s , since the first are known sy s tems of improving health etc . ,
without the use of manufactured appliances ; the se cond is a li st of
properties of magnetic appliances for healing from a number of stand
points , either method is as us eful as the other , but some are given to
operate better than othe rs in special circum stances . H ence , w e have
METHODS first .

DE LAND ' S MAGNETIC CANOPY

The device called the D eland M agnetic F rost C ontrol System is an

apparatus that was perfe cted by John D elrea DeLand , of Riverside ,
C alifornia . The equip ment has b e en in u s e in some citrus groves
since 1 9 49 . It appears to be succes sful in w ar ding off frost damage
to citrus fruit , while at the s am e time p romoting b etter growth and
grove he alth in thos e areas it covers .

The Deland system i s s et up in units covering one acre , or

4 3 , 5 6 0 square feet each . A unit consists of a steel mast or tower
about 32 feet high . T hi s mast i s made of galvanised steel pipe in

47 .
standard 1 2 - foot length s . T he first length is two-inch pip e . It
i s s et into a three-foot deep concrete foundation in the earth . On
the top of thi s pipe i s fastened o n e length of one-and-one-half
inch pip e , by means of a pipe fitting known in this country as a
" reducer" . B oth pip e s s crew into this fitting . At the top of the
one - and-one-half inch pipe is a length of one-inch pipe , also
attache d by me an s of a reducer . It is most important that this
tower b e p lumb when set .

S itting on top of e ach reducer and also at the m ast-head is a

w aterproof , three-quarter-inch thick p lywood di s c . One flat surface
of the dis c i s turned e arthw ard , the other skyw ar d . Around the
outer diameter of thes e di scs are drilled seven holes each . These
hole s parallel the mast and are at right angles to the earth . The
size of the holes i s about one-quarter-inch . They are sp aced at
angles of s lightly more than 5 1 degrees apart .

Beginning at the top dis c , with an extension of about eight

inches at right angles to the mast , and p arallel to the earth , are
s trung ten hard copper wires through each of the holes in the discs .
This forms a cage of copp er wire around the m as t . One of these
s even wires mus t be at p recise m agnetic north . T hi s p osition should
be located with a tran sit and with the aid of a chart furnished by
the U . S . Godetic Survey here in the U nited S tates . T his position
varies widely in relatively s hort di stances apart in m any p laces .

The wires are run through the outer edge of the concrete found
ation , then into 1 8-inch- deep trenches in the earth w hich radiates
from the mast centre at the s ame 5 1 degrees - p lus - as do the
holes in the wooden discs . T hese trenches should also b e laid out
by transit , beginning with the one pointing to magnetic north .

The copper wires are run from the foundation to a distance of

1 44 feet from the centre of the mast . H ere , they are attached to a
" Magnetic-pack " . The ME THOD of thi s attachment is secret . So
i s the make-up o f the p ack itself . Likewi se , is the m ethod by which
the m agnet-pack is s ealed against the w eathering and corrosion of
the earth . These details are covered by a " p atent p ending" , and

48 .
cannot , therefore , be dis closed until the p atent is granted . It i s
known , however , the magnet-p ack contains a n "Alnico 5 " p ermanent
magnet - or equivalent .

The end of the wire attached to this magnet-p ack is b roght above·
ground and its end pointed toward , as nearly as can b e , the corres
p onding end on the m ast top . How each m agnet-p ack i s set in re
lation to the north- south position of the earth is not known , nor is
the fundamental theory under which the device operate s . These
would be explained in the p atent if it w ere i s sued . All trenches ,
with their wires and magnet-packs are covered w ith earth , of cours e .
T hey must remain so for proper functioning of thi s sy stem .

The DeLand device doe s not rai se the AIR TEMPE RATURE of the
grove . Thermometers in a grove protected by the D eL and apparatus
read the s ame as thos e outside the p rotection . What app ears to tak e
p lace is that a " magnetic canopy" o r field o f force is s e t up over
the tree s by the DeLand equipment , and this canopy creates w ithin
the tree s themselves a condition w hi ch seems to p revent the results
of that which we know as " freezing" from taking p lace . O ranges
lying on the ground , or in b oxes or b asket s , unattached to the
tree s , free ze . It also appears that oranges attached to the tree b ut
touching the ground will free ze in a few hours . It seems it is only
the fruit attached to the trees and not " grounded out" w hich survive .

The DeLand apparatus has p rotected citrus groves succes sfully

when temp erature s have fallen " officially " as low as to 20 degree s
F ahrenheit . T here is a n " unofficial" 1 7 degreees F . How long the
DeLand apparatus would p rotect against a 20 degree F . temp erature
is not known , as daytime temperatures rise considerab ly ab ove
freezing .

Not only does the DeLand device p revent frost , its magnetic
force-flow app ears to b ring w ell-being , also , to the grove . T his
s how s in the general higher production and better app earance of
the tree s . No claim is made that the D eLand apparatus will b enefit
human health in any w ay , but there are records of those who h ave
installed the system for their groves who s ay their p ersonal health
has been help ed in addition .

49 .
Many experiments have been carried out relative to the effect of
magnets on animal as w ell as vegetable health and growth . These
experiments seem to indicate that b oth animal and vegetable well
being are enhanced by the presence of certain magnetic forces .

T here is some que s tion as to e xactly WHERE the energy come s

from t o motivate the D eL and S ys tem . It is quite p ossible the tow ers
pick up s tatic- ele ctric or electro-magnetic ener gy from the atmosphere
and transfer it to the earth under the grove , thu s creating a condi
tion yet remaining unstudied by s cience in this p articular respect .
It may be there is a merging of energies from the air and from the
earth , which create s a very local condition and enhances growth and
fro st resistance . It is even pos sible the energy m ay stimulate the
flow of s ap in the trees so they are ab le to w ard off the condition of
free zing more effe ctively . We know trees do not "die" every winter ,
and even in cold regions , a tree in Feb ruary looks considerably diff
erent from which it did in D e cember .

Does the D eLand system work? I called upon a citrus grove owner
in River side , C alifornia , for the purpose of determining this point .
The grove is of fifteen acres . Its owner is M rs . Eva Hibb s . Five
acres of thi s grove has been operating under the D eLand system for
five years . Mrs . Hibb s i s more than s ati sfied with the results ob
tained . S he fe els the sy stem has not only increased her yield of
orange s but has saved her a goodly sum she would have had to
spend on orchard heating oil had she not had the D eL and sy stem .

T here is no direct connection , yet discovered , betw een the forces

used to operate the D eLand sy s tem and dow sing . Nor has my investi
gation of the system led me to see any connection b etween it and the
dowser ' s ability - or lack of it - to locate " either" north . However ,
its pres ence doe s further emphasise there are forces ab out us of
which we know little - or p erhap s know how to use . It is pos sible
the se forces do affe ct dow s ers . It may be these energies affe ct per
sons who cannot dow s e . P erhaps the person who cannot dow se cannot
do so be cause they are more sensitive to these forces than to those
which actuate the dow ser . Speculation here is endless .

50 .
As much as dow sing for underground m aterials mak es dow sers
b ecome interested in earth problems , p erhap s the few facts set
forth here will stimulate further thinking on their p arts . We hop e
it will b e a key which unlocks some hitherto clo sed doors . M ayb e ,
it will be the sp ark which lights the lamp for further study and
experiments . We hope so .

SIMPLE METHOD OF OBTAINING NATURAL S LEEP .

Insomnia is one of the most potent troub les that humanity has to
b ear . It occurs in civilised nations all over the w orld , m ainly b e
cause they ARE civili s ed , and a s such , there i s much t o think ab out
and do , w hilst in the non- civilised countries , sleep le s sne s s is vir
tually unknown . I t is true t o s ay that ins omnia i s the cause o f many
nervous and mental illne s ses , mer ely be cause one i s frightened at
not getting the usual 6 to 8 hour s each night . S cientists have dis
covered , however , that the amount required by each per son varies
such a lot that a great deal of w hat i s loosely termed IN SOMNIA , is
not insomnia at all , but just the imagination of the subj ect because
their individual pattern of biorhythms are not under stood (see Bio
grams , the secret of succes sful living p ub li shed by the Author ) .

There are many caus es of sleeplessne s s , but one thing i s certain

that drugs and medicine s will not cure it . The causes of insomnia
m ay be classified as under: -

NOXIOUS RADIATIONS

H armful radiations from the soil are one of the predisposing

causes of sleeples snes s , and many other illne s s es (Harmful Radia
tions & Their E limination" by the Author ) . The history of this
factor has proven it a prime factor in the caus ation of insomnia .

Those who live over a sandy soil appear to enj oy a better night ' s
s leep than those who s leep over granite or clay , the los s of sleep is
due to cosmic radiation bouncing from the under layers of strata and
being amp lified by the springs of such a thing as a b e d ; the whole
bed becomes a radio w ave collector by suitable neutralising the bed

51.
agains t thes e ray s . O ne of the simplest w ay s of doing this is to
obtain a length of ordinary copper wire and m ake it go right round
the b e d to overlap at one end , in the s tyle of the w ell-known
Lahkovsky coil (see Figs . 12 & 13) . The first illustration show s
the common Lahkovsky coil used for p rotecting p lant life against
harmful radiation , the second s hows how to do it with a bed to obtain
immunity from the soil . It is best too i f the bed can b e p lace d so
that the head faces magnetic North for a m an , and the S outh for a
woman . How ever , p eople and geological positions can vary in their
response to this law , but if the b e d is i solated with the wire already
mentioned , the need to move the bed is maller , it rather depends if
it is earth ray s that are causing the trouble , or not .

52 .
F ig . 13 .

Another cause of sleeplessness i s one ' s own mental state . It i s a

p sychological fact that if a per son fails to s leep on the first night , he
will be les s likely to sleep on the s econd . If the p attern continues ,
then one finds that sleep le s sne s s becomes a habit b rought ab out by
auto- sugge stion , and then one re sorts to drugs that never cure the
trouble but bring on other illnes s e s and cause an upheav al in the
body its elf , thereby causing an allergy in due cour se to the very
drug taken as a last resort . If one simply understands the p roblem ,
then there need be no insomni a .

A TE CHNIQUE FOR l\'IAKING PLANTS GROW

Apart from the Lahkovsky coil already shown , w hich may be used
for the single p lant , D r . S tarr White (Cosmo-E lectro Culture ) show s us
that it i s pos sible to place a copper wire underground along the row s of
p lants , and in so doing will bring abundant growth . T he i llu s trati on in
Fig . 1 4 . s hows the simple method Dr . S tarr White used .

On the other hand , rather than dig up trenches and make a lot of
work it is pos sible to place a magnetic catalyst near to each p lant re
quiring stimulating in this way to produce b etter crop s . S till better

53 .
than this is to u s e an instrument which b eams given rates of vi
b ration to the p lants . In an article appearing i n "Natural Thera
p eutics" , we see below how trees are affected by using electrical
and magnetic current .
Fig . 14 .

GROWING AND GATHERING FRUIT B Y E LE C T RICIT Y

T h e title o f this might w ell b e considered rather strange unle s s

one i s familiar with the techniques involved . L e t me elucidate . Re
search into the electrical potential and directional currents i n p lants
was fir s t known in 1 9 5 4 , when a German experimenter by the name of
Buff found electricity b etw een a root tip and the upper p arts of th e
p lant - not intermittently as in human nerves and muscle s , but in a con
tinuous s tream of direct current . O ther s have repeated the experiments ,
and it has been found pos sible to detect a steady current in single cells .

In thi s Century , it has been found that it is pos sible to connect a

fruit treee to an electric current of a p re- determined voltage and s trength
and in running the voltage in one direction , the growth and p roduction

54 .
of the tree is stimulated so much that it 1 :::. pos sible to double the size of
the tree in any sp ace of time . For instance , if the tree grew 2 inches in
one y e ar under normal circumstances , it would grow 4 inches in the
s ame space of time be electrical induction . By reversing the current , it
is p o s sible for the RIPE fruit only to drop off the tree ;
this is esp ecially
so ln the case of citrus tree s , which are w ell known to hold on to their
fruit . Up to the p resent time , no machine has b een designed which can
automatically pick this fruit .

If we use N atur e ' s forces , we shall find that sen sational things can
b e done , and if we continue to use the se finer forces in the right w ay ,
helping them along a bit , much can b e achieved .

During thP best growing season , I have been continuing experiments

w ith smaller p lants , and have found that the amount of electrical or mag
netic current required is so small as to be almost immeasurab le . If one
uses a certain type of metal p late , it is pos sible to stimulate growth in
tree s or p lants in a spectacular m anner , b ecause the p late - by its very
nature - p r oduces an electrical current .

S ome years ago , I cured a numb er of ailing trees by the insertion of

a s electe d homoeopathic remedy into the tree itself . I drilled a tiny hole
into the trunk and p laced a slim glass (not p lasti c ) tub e inside , sealing
it up within the tree . Another simple cure for a non-fruitful app le tree
was found by w ay of analysis . T his analysis revealed that the tree
lacke d Zinc , and so - after finding the tree ' s fundamental ray - I gently
h ammered a Z inc roofing nail into the trunk . Ever since , this tree has
b orne fruit abundantly .

Now to return to the electrical action of p lants ; I h ave found that

by using certain R adionic apparatus , iti s pos sib le to "b eam " the required
energy to the p lants and thu s stimulate growth .

S ome time ago , A C anadian fruit grower claimed that by using certain
magnets (specially made for him ) and a numl.J er of overhead aerial s , it
was p os sible to p rotect large areas of fruit trees from frost , with no
heating or device s . No further literature on the subj ect h as b een forth
coming , but we arealways inves tigating the possib le phenomena con
nected with this interesting feature .

55 .
In my opinion , what we really need is a number of interested farmers
or horticulturists in all p arts of the world w ho will take a little time off
to s tudy these phenomena . If a suffi cient number of these forward-looking
men and women did investigate this interesting and worthwhile field with
zest , I am convinced that they would find s atisfaction and a rich rew ard .
However , p atience , time and energy are required to do thi s , together
with enthu siasm and ideas for constant improvement . And , in order to
evaluate the p rogre s s , records would also have to be kep t . I wonder
if there are enough readers of thi s book suffici ently interested to
forward this inexp ensive b ut important method of reasearch , w hich will
not only s ave time and labour , but will give production a boost where
needed and will also p rovide a life- long interest .

MAGNETIC APPLIANCES

The following M agnetic Appliances are designed in various w ay s in

w hich one might apply the magneti c energy for per sonal w ell-being or
for healing purposes . Other specialised app liances are also used for
treatment of p lants , and animals also .

The M agnetic Cus hion

D e signed to alleviate the many prob lem s caused by sleep lessnes s ,

without the use of harmful drugs or medi cines of any kind . By using
thi s cushion , w hich normally is p laced b eneath your existing pillow or
cushion , (it can be used on the bed or chair , .as desired ) , you can throw
away all the s leeping pills you now use and be much b etter in health .
The Magnetic Cus hion consists of a series of magnets , oriented in a sp ecial
de sign , s andwiched b etw een tw o foam sheets , and completed with a
cushion case . It m ay b e used at any time with good results . It has
b een used by m any thousands of insomniacs around the world , with
greater b enefit and a s aving of taking harmful drugs and p otions and at
the s ame time alleviating mental stress whi ch has caused many an insom
niac of worry about not sleeping , the greatest cause of not s leeping itself!
S imilar magnetic cushions are also availab le with leather covering for use
in motor cars and the like . And , they have the effect of i solating the
electro-magnetic current of the vehicle for thos e who h ave a certain
amount of travel sickne s s or b ack troubles . What we are using here ,
i s the normal , phy sical magnetism which will re- act in cohersion with
animal magnetism within us to form a healing force in itself .

56 .
The M agnetron

This is a small electrically - operated instrument , which has a varied

w ave-pattern . No technical knowledge is required , as it emits a low
powered magnetic current that reflects from the inner aura , thus b ring
ing a soothing s leep , free from the use of drugs of any kind . · The
instrument looks rather like a small radio , is p lugged into the electric
mains and switched on . The pulsating ener gy of the M agnetron i s
of very low power and i n m y earlier work s o n M agnetism it will b e
s een that low -power magnetism has a definite beneficial healin g effect ,
operating much in a similar w ay as do the M agnetic Cushions , b e -
c ause the manufactured (if w e may p u t it that w ay ) m agnetism co
agulates along with the natural m agnetic energy of the b ody and b e
tween the m the polarities will sort themselves out and correct mi s
polarity i n the body its elf as w ell a s correcting auric disturbances .
Treatment may be given through a p air of handgrips p lugged to the
instrument , or by a w ave-form p attern , the instrument is slightly
variable in intensity to suit the individual .

Personal M agnetic Rejuvinator

An unusual and dynamic instrument , w hich you carry in the pocket

or in the handbag , it help s to build a vital and dynamic personality by
correcting the latent magnetic energies in the sy stem into vital , usab le
energy . No electricity or b atteries are used , as it recharge s itself and
requires no attention for all time . It is the result of many y ear s re
s earch into this hi ghly interesting res earch field . D o you recall how
vital and energetic you were when a child? Do you notice that some
folk around you are more energetic than you? You can be the s ame ,
b ecause everyone ' s m agnetic power varies a great deal - some need
a method of boosting this energy and putting it into the right p laces
where nature intended it to be . It operates only on the natural forces
in and around the living b ody .

R adionic s & Healing

Over the years the s cientific approach made by radioni cs into

assessing and evaluating the human universe has m ade great strides .
With the advent of the radionic analytical computer and more advanced

57 .
equipment now being p roduced in the Author ' s laboratory we find that
not only can we do an exact analysis on the physical , mental , auric and
spiritual p lanes b ut also in the cosmic and atomic p lanes . In order to
investigate and res earch into a phenomenon of life - where we sp eak of
" life" we also include , of cour s e , all kinds of living tissue and creatures ,
such as animals and p lants of all categories and great work is being
undertaken by r e s e arch in s titutes around the World w ith our e quipm ent
into this very thing . Frorr time to time w e p ub lish new books , new
material , thesis and other p apers w hi ch may be of interest to the student
of M agnetism , and indeed , of life itself , in assisting thos e who desire to
h ave natural healing - without the use of drugs . S uch information can
be obtained by w riting to the address of the pub lishers of this b ook who
will be p leased to p a s s over the latest catalogues or any other infor
mation that may b e currently availab le to the interested observer or to
the p r actical p ractitioner .

One could go into lengthy dis sertations into M agnensm itself but
magnetism i s only a s mall p art of the total living condition of the World
and if we tend to study the one , this will lead us on to others and a
whole gamut of interesting information that will have you transfixed
with interest for many years to come .

We terminate this book with an illustration of one of the most ad

vanced pieces of equipment that we use in examining the auric , magnetic
and other fields of life .

I also re commend the s cience student to go into any library and

find many ob s cure b ook s on this interesting topic , for there are many ,
far too many , to mention in a small b ook such as this - but the intere st
i s ever present and I hop e you will have found something of interest in
this p ub lic ation - if s o , the Author will b e p leased to hear from you if
you h ave any p rob lems .
