Ss2 Technical Drawing Lesson Plan Week 5

This lesson plan is for a technical drawing class on link mechanisms. The lesson will teach students how to plot the loci of a link mechanism with two symmetrical loci and with two cranks of different sizes. The lesson is 40 minutes long for 15-year-old students. The teacher aims to ensure students understand how to plot these types of link mechanisms. The teacher anticipates students may struggle with understanding the plotting process and will explain it extensively. Teaching materials include drawing equipment, posters, and video clips.

LESSON PLAN FOR WEEK [5] ENDING [14-10-

2022]

SUBJECT: TECHNICAL DRAWING

TOPIC: LINK MECHANISM
TIME: 40 MINUTES
SCHEDULE: 10:20-11:42
AVERAGE AGE: 15 YEARS
LEVEL: SS2
NUMBER OF LEARNERS: 4

TIME TABLE FIT: In the previous lesson, the learners had learnt about the concept of link
mechanism and the plotting of loci of a simple link mechnism

MAIN AIM: The learners will be able to plot the loci of a link mechanism which has two loci
that is symmetrical and mark out the loci of a link mechanism that has two cranks of different
sizes

SUBSIDIARY AIMS: By the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to
1. Plot the loci of a link mechanism which has two loci that is symmetrical
2. Mark out the loci of a link mechanism that has two cranks of different sizes

PERSONAL AIM: To ensure that the learners fully understand the process involved in
plotting the loci of a link mechanism which has two loci that is symmetrical and marking out
the loci of a link mechanism that has two cranks of different sizes

ASSUMPTION: The leaners may have seen or heard about plotting the loci of a link
mechanism which has two loci that is symmetrical and marking out the loci of a link
mechanism that has two cranks of different sizes from their textbook or online.

ANTICIPATED PROBLEM: The learner may find it difficult to understand the process
involved in plotting the loci of a link mechanism which has two loci that is symmetrical and
marking out the loci of a link mechanism that has two cranks of different sizes

POSSIBLE SOLUTION: The teacher will have to explain extensively about the process in
plotting the loci of a link mechanism which has two loci that is symmetrical and marking out
the loci of a link mechanism that has two cranks of different sizes

TEACHING MATERIAL: Drawing materials and equipment, Posters, Charts, Video clips
etc.

LEAD IN: Every mechanism must be visualized as moving, where the different parts produce
different loci for their different parts. When plotting the locus of a mechanism we divide the
motion in temporal spaces and then plot the required loci.

PROCEDURE

STEP 1: PLOTTING THE LOCI OF A LINK MECHANISM WHICH HAS TWO LOCI
THAT IS SYMMETRICAL
Example 1: In the figure, the crank AB rotates clock wise about A and the crank CD rotates
anticlockwise about C. The crank are joined by the link BDF. Plot the locus of points E and F
for one revolution of AB. AB and DC are 45mm, BD is 120mm, and BE and DF are 30mm.

STEP 2: MARKING OUT THE LOCI OF A LINK MECHANISM THAT HAS TWO
CRANKS OF DIFFERENT SIZES
Example 2: The crank in the figure rotates clockwise about O. The link AB is attached to a rod
CB which swings about C. Construct the locus of P if OA is 30mm, AB is 140mm, CB is 60mm
and BP is 70mm.

Solution

INTERACTION PATTERN: The use of explanatory, discussion, play-way, sketching,
teacher to learner and learner to learner method in her teaching method

STUDENTS’ EVALUATION:
1. The arrangement in the figure below, shows crank AB, which rotates about A and DC also
rotates about D. Rod BC are pin jointed at B and C respectively
a) Draw the arrangement as shown below
b) Plot the locus of point E for on revolution of CD in clockwise direction see data below for
solution

TEACHER’S EVALUATION: The learners fully understood the process involved in plotting
the loci of a link mechanism that has two loci that is symmetrical and planning out the loci of a
link mechanism that has two cranks of different sizes.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. The arrangement in the figure below, shows crank AB, which rotates about A and DC also
rotates about D. Rod BC are pin jointed at B and C respectively
a) Draw the arrangement as shown below
b) Plot the locus of point E for on revolution of CD in clockwise direction see data below for
solution
2. The figure below shows a crank mechanism. The crank OJ rotates uniformly anticlockwise
about O and the lever KL is pivoted at L. Using the given dimensions, construct the locus of
point P for a complete revolution of OJ

CONCLUSION: In tracing the locus made by a link mechanism, the function of the crank,
piston, connecting rod, or even engine block must be understood. Engineers, in fact mechanical
engineers cannot uperate successfully without the knowledge of each component parts of an
engine.

BIBLICAL PRINCIPLE: PURPOSE: The function of believers of Christ is to be a blessing to
the nations as the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world.” [Matt. 5:13-16]
BIBLICAL INTEGRATED LESSON: By the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to
understand that just as the function of plotting out the loci of a link mechanism is to understand
how the link mechanism function and how the knowledge can serve as a blessing to mechanical
engineers so we are believers show the function of Christianity by being a blessing to the
nations of the earth as the salt and light of the earth
