JAMNABAI NARSEE SCHOOL, GIFT CITY

SPORTS DAY (2022 – 2023)

ANCHORS – GAYATRI : CHOPRA, MAHIKA BABELIA (9A), VIDHI BHARADWAJ (11C)

ANCHORING
GAYATRI : A very happy morning to one and all. On this pleasant
winter morning and a wonderful day I GAYATRI : Chopra and my
team comprising of MAHIKA Babelia of 9A and VIDHI Bhardwaj of
11C welcome you all on behalf of the staff and management of
Jamnabai Narsee School, Gift City to witness our Annual Sports day.
It’s a well -known fact that Sporting is good for our physical and
mental health. At Jamnabai Narsee we encourage our students to
take-up sports and excel in them as sporting develops leadership
skills and equips children with the ability to set goals and build
character. At Jamnabai we understand that participating in sports
can lead to higher self-esteem and better social interaction. It also
helps students gain a positive outlook.
A school sports day is a red letter day on the school calendar, it’s a
day for red faces and perspiration, where t-shirts and track pants are
the order of the day. It’s a day for lots of action and smiling faces. It’s
a day for victories and defeats, for successes and failures.

VIDHI: : Indeed. Sports teaches us a lot and has a multitude of

benefits in out daily lives. But one of the most important things that
the students of an institution identify with on a sports day is the
Mascot. So, Let me take a moment to introduce our mascot for the
day which is none other than the legendary bird garud. Garud is an
iconic symbol of duty and power, an insignia of royalty and dharm.
As per the mythology, the eagle like form of the Garud, signifies
divine approval. Garuda is invoked as a symbol of unstoppable force,
speed, and martial prowess.

1
GAYATRI : Even till date, Garuda is the representation of great speed,
power, dexterity and skill on the field and that’s why its the Mascot
of Jamnabai Narsee School Gift City!

INSPECTION OF THE PARADE

Spring is in the air as the weather gods have calmed down a little and
the temperatures are now hovering close to 28 degrees. It is without
doubt, that our well-practiced March Past would be a great success.
Since the past few days the sun has been playing hide and seek and
that has been making me anxious to think about the Marchpast and
the other sports day events, but I needn’t have worried: the sun,
clearly under the orders of the school counsil members, came out
and shown bright, today.

I am sure that the sun is out on the cue that the Inspecting Office,
Ms. Pragnya Mohan is inspecting the parade escorted by
____________________ and _________________.
The marchpast is not just a parade but infact our marching platoons
are going to be judged. March past is a qualitatively judged event,
which makes it very technical to coach. Each contingent shall be
judged for posture, discipline, uniform, coordination, carriage, arm
swing, leg action, length of pace and timing

WELCOME ADDRESS & FLORAL TRIBUTE

GAYATRI : But before we begin, we wish you all a very happy
morning and extend a warm welcome to all the dignitaries gracing
the occasion, Principal Ma’am Mrs. Anupama Singh, all the Staff
members and our dear parents, who have taken time out of their
busy schedule to be with us and cheer the young children. Our Chief
guest for the occasion is Ms. Pragnya Moha India's highest ever
ranked triathlete in the world.
and it’s our honour to formally pay our tribute and express our
gratitude to her for having taken time out of her busy schedule to be
here with us to witness our show. She is an inspiring personality who
has battled against all odds and reached the pinnacle of success. She
is highly passionate about alleviating ignorance and infusing hope
among people. Undoubtedly she is a living proof and an exemplar of

2
humanity. She has a huge list and a trail of achievements.
In Birmingham 2022, she led India's triathlon debut at
the Commonwealth Games and in 2019, she became the first
triathlete to represent India in the Triathlon World Cup. She is and
has been one of the very best South Asian and National Triathlon
Champions and has won gold medals at the South Asian Games and
the National Games and as if that wasn’t enough she is also a
Chartered accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of
India.
I’d like to invite ________ to present a bouquet to our Chief Guest
Ms. Pragnya Mohan.

“The fragrance of flowers spreads only in the direction of the wind.

But the goodness of a person like you Sir, Spreads in all directions”.

Let’s hear a loud round of applause for Ms. Pragnya Mohan.

TORCH RELAY
GAYATRI : Now its time to begin this action packed day with the
lighting of the sporting torch without which any sporting event is
incomplete. Please take a look at the beckoning sports field this fine
winter/spring morning, where not only the sports torch but also a
symbol of our passion for sporting, is waiting to be kindled. Let me
take this opportunity to invite our Chief Guest Ms. Pragnya Mohan to
step up and do the honours by igniting the flame which represents
our endeavour for achievement and struggle for victory. I would like
to request __________ to escort __________.

(While they go to light the tourch)

VIDHI : The torch is a symbol of peace, harmony and good will, it

brings with it hope and inspiration and lifts up spirits. The torch
ceremony, as in the Olympics, has a few specific traits.

GAYATRI : The torch is now lit and is being carried by the sports Capt
Bhavya Patel, Sports Wise Capt Sahaj Porwal and the Sports
Coordinator Mr. Kaushal Kuchara.
3
VIDHI : Historically; the most common use of torches was to shed
light in darkness and honouring the Greek god Zeus.
Educationally; its message for mankind, is to teach people fair play
and instil a high regard towards cooperation and togetherness. And
Artistically; it enhances the elegance of sporting ceremonies.

GAYATRI : The torch is now in the hands of Ms. Ananya Bhardwaj of

grade 12, she is a National Level Athlete and with her is Mr. Dinesh
our sports teacher.
They shall be joined by Daksh Singh and Pratham Premani of Grade
8, who are both National level atheletes and Shrenik Jain of Gr 12,
who holds the first position in 1500mt race at National Level.

VIDHI : Traditionally, flame symbolizes the light of spirit, knowledge

and life. As a tradition the flame is passed from one person to
another in stages during the Torch Relay at sporting events.

GAYATRI : The sacred flame has now reached The National Level
Lawn Tennis Players of our school. Its been handed over to Niyati
Khandelwal of Gr 8 who is being accompanied by Satyajit Rao and
Vihaan Bhandari of Gr8 and Yashika Yadav of Gr 6. All these
students have done the school proud at National Level Lawn Tennis.

VIDHI : We at Jamnabai are keeping the tradition alive, by handing

down the symbolic fire of the gods, which represents and expresses
the spreading of sportsman-spirit, compassion towards opponents
and sporting passion from generation to generation.

GAYATRI : Next team to receive the fire of the gods is the National
Level Taekwondo players of JNS among them one of our very best is,
Aakansha Ladhwani of Gr 10 and she is being handed the torch. She
is accompanied by Dhrish Sonigra and Dhruvi Jain of Gr 7 Jinit Patel
and Teeshya Verma of Gr 8 and Aarohi Popat of Gr 6. Lets hear a
loud round of applause for all our athletes today.
Finally the torch has been received by our National level Basketball
players and is in the hands of Rudra Chauhan our basketball team

4
captain who is in Gr12. He is joined by Dhruvin Shah, Prajwal
Chaudhari and Parv Singh of Grade 12.
From the Olympic Games to the Annual Sports Day of Jamnabai
Narsee, the torch ceremony may have altered a bit. But the
symbolism has not.

WELCOME ADDRESS - MAHIKA

DECLARING THE SPORTS MEET OPEN (with balloons)

GAYATRI : Wow! the Torch Relay gave me goosebumps… It seems

that we all shall witness examples of enthusiasm, passion, and vigor
on the sports field this Annual Sports Day.

So without much ado let me request ____________,

_______________, ________________ and __________ to step up
and release these colourful balloons to declare the sports meet
open.

(While they are coming to the field)

Flying hydrogen balloons signify growth and high spirits. The release
of balloons signifies our endeavour to, celebrate life and success & is
a great way to commence a memorable ceremony.

(While balloons are going up….)

MAHIKA : These balloons rising into the sky, taking with them the
banner of Jamnabai Narsee School are proclaiming to everyone that
every child in this institution will reach for the skies and endeavour
to excel. Peace is a journey of a thousand miles and it must be taken
one step at a time. These balloons remind us that each one of us is
an angel and we can only fly by embracing one another and working
in a spirit of true harmony and peace.

MARCH PAST
GAYATRI : : Similar to the grand parade in New Delhi, akin to the
different regiments of the Army, Navy and Air Force marching in all
their finery and official decorations, the various contingents of the
5
school will now display the March Past and our Chief Guest Ms.
Pragnya Mohan shall take the salute.

The marchpast is not just a parade but infact our marching platoons
are going to be judged. March past is a qualitatively judged event,
which makes it very technical to coach. Each contingent shall be
judged for coordination, carriage, arm swing, leg action, length of
pace and timing

As our platoons march on with a spirit of strong will and

determination, ladies and gentlemen let not your claps and cheering
stop for even a millisecond as our contingents comprising of the
Student Council, followed by the platoons of Scouts & Guides, NCC
and each of our 6 Houses - Akbar, Einstein, Lincoln, Mahatma
Gandhi, Swami Vivekanand and Tagore, march on.

VIDHI : Among the schools in the city, Jamnabai Narsee School,

Gift City is one of the very best where the School Band is
concerned.
GAYATRI : Yes ! At Jamnabai Narsee School, Gift City we believe
that the School band is an excellent vehicle for teaching students a
host of skills such as discipline, teamwork and the importance of
following directions. Although the Band sounds melodious it has
little to do with entertainment, and everything to do with the
teaching of these skills.
Parents please cheer the School Marching Band as they parade.

VIDHI : Leading the March Past is The contingent comprising of the

honourable Student Council of Jamnabai Narsee School, Gift City.

GAYATRI : Being a member of the student council is a powerful

leadership and learning opportunity and at Jamnabai Narsee School
we are committed to provide an opportunity for each member of
the Students Council to engage in structured partnership and
contribute towards the operations of the school.

6
VIDHI : Following the Student Council is the platoon of Scouts and
Guides. Under proper training and guidance right from childhood,
positive values and attitudes can be nurtured in children to make
them mature and responsible citizens of the nation.
Lets give a loud round of applause for our boy scouts and girl guides.

GAYATRI : Coming up is the contingent of our Cadets of NCC. The

National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a youth development movement
which provides opportunities to the youth of the country for their all-
round development with a sense of Duty, Commitment, Dedication,
Discipline and Moral Values so that they become able leaders and
useful citizens.

Next in the parade is Akbar house. It is represented by a light-yellow

coloured flag representing the flames of passion that the members
of Akbar house have towards all their endeavours and this value is
surely not just a gameday thing, it truly permeates the lives of the
athletes of Akbar house who strive to exhibit their passion for sports.

VIDHI : The next contingent is that of Einstein house with their sky-
blue flag which seems to be having a conversation with the wind as
the contingent marches on.

GAYATRI : Next on we have Lincoln house with its flashy red

coloured flag which stands for - The firmness of purpose and
represents the Courage and determination of the athletes of Lincoln
house.

VIDHI : Following their heel is Mahatma Gandhi house which abides

by the motto “What lies ahead of you & what lies behind you is
nothing compared to what lies within you. ”

GAYATRI : Coming up next is the platoon of Swami Vivekanand

house, which believes that “There is no end to the adventures that
we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.”

7
VIDHI : The rearmost contingent, which is by no means the last, is
that of Tagore house with their Ochre coloured flag which epitomizes
- the force of determination.

GAYATRI : Wow! Seeing the contingents march with such confidence

and synchronization, gives me the conviction to state that the houses
are all set and absolutely ready to give each other a tough
competition today

Since time immemorial It is a protocol to take the Athletes oath

before beginning with any sporting event. The oath signifies fair play
by athletes. It’s a promise to abide by the rules and participate with
the true spirit of sportsmanship, without foul play and it is taken to
honour teams and help make the globe a better place through
sportsmanship. So, ladies and gentlemen please rise up for this
solemn ceremony and put out your right hand while the Oath is
taken by our sports captain Bhavya Patel along with the wise Sports
Captain Sahaj Purval of Jamnabai Narsee School, Gift City

ATHLETES OATH
(DISPERSAL OF THE PARADE)

GAYATRI : The school sports day is a day when students are freed
not only from their classrooms to jump and run around but also from
the fetters of academic learning. It is a day for mothers and fathers
to cheer on their sons and daughters. Moreover, Sports Day is a day
for celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship. So let’s begin the Annual
Sports Day with lots of enthusiasm, passion, and vigour.

OPENING CEREMONY
MPT
MAHIKA : A colourful and dazzling opening ceremony is something
we all look forward to at any sporting event and we at Jamnabai,
GIFT city have always believed that a healthy body hosts a healthy
mind, and thus, physical fitness needs to be a part of our everyday
routine. On that note, let’s combine some bling factor with our daily

8
dose of exercises along with some unbelievably synchronized body
movements.
Please put your hands together for the Mass PT presented by
students of Grade 5. Through this grand sporting and fitness display,
the students wish each other luck and challenge their peers to
perform keeping their best foot forward.

GYMNASTICS DISPLAY
GAYATRI :
Wow that was truly amazing!
One of the indoor activities done at school, is a sport involving
exercises requiring physical strength, agility and coordination. Well
yes, I am sure you guessed it right, I am referring to Gymnastics.
Gymnastics; is a sport about body control which also builds strength
and flexibility and helps children grow in self-confidence and mental
toughness. Additionally, gymnastics encourages kids to set goals and
gain the discipline to achieve them. It helps children, overcome fear
and it improves motor skill development and accelerates learning.
Gymnastics has non-physical benefits as well and helps children with
school, social interaction and teaches them some awe inspiring body
movements. Besides these there is one more benefit which can’t be
ignored: gymnastics classes are great fun! So please cheer the kids by
clapping for them as the students of grades 5-8 enter the field to
perform. These students have taken up Gymnastics as their hobby
and are learning it at school.

DANCE DRILL
VIDHI :
Wow that was a wonderful display.
We at Jamnabai, GIFT city have always believed that a student
display must exhibit leadership, perfect posture, pride and attention
to detail, and the Gymnastics display was about all of that.
Well, the breeze today is electrifying and charged with a lot of pep
and exuberance, and our students surely know how to blend their
daily dose of movement with fun. Showcasing all of these are our
students of Grade 6 in their Dance Drill. So, let’s welcome them on
the field by giving them a loud round of applause.

9
TAEKWONDO DISPLAY
MAHIKA : After that spectacular multi-hued Dance Drill, it’s time for
yet another display which trains our students in Self Defence. Well, I
am talking of none other than Taekwondo. Coming up on the field
are some of our best Taekwondo performers. Practicing Taekwondo
helps in developing your self-esteem. It involves learning various
kinds of moves, postures, strikes and more. Perfecting each of these
gives our students a confidence booster and also helps them tone
their muscles.
Ladies and Gentlemen… let’s hear it for our Taekwondo performers
who have taken up this activity as their hobby at school.

ADDRESS BY THE CHIEF GUEST

GAYATRI : We are honoured to have with us Ms. Pragnya Mohan as

our honourable Chief Guest. She is not only an achiever and not only
an sports person but also a prominent nation builder through sport.
Undoubtedly she is a living proof and an exemplar of humanity. A

Birmingham in 2022 and became the first triathlete to represent
India in the Triathlon World Cup, in 2019. She is and has been one of
the very best South Asian and National Triathlon Champions and has

honourable Chief Guest Ms. Pragnya Mohan.

(Chief Guest’s Address}

FLAT RACE
MAHIKA :
Thanks ma’am, Thank you very much!

10
Track or field Athletics is a collection of sports events involving
running, jumping, skipping, fast walking and flat races. Flat races are
as challenging as the other innovative races. They are the true
competition of speed and stamina as the athletes need to traverse
the same distance in the shortest amount of time. So let’s begin
today’s competition with a few Flat races. But before we begin I must
briefly reiterate the rules-

· Every participant will have one dedicated track.

· Each participant should be within their tracks during the race.

· If during the race the participants move to other competitor’s

track, it will lead to disqualification.

VIDHI: First to be lined up on the track are the boys/girls ready to

take on the ________ metres flat race. O and the race has begun the
kids are rushing towards the finish line and each one’s endeavour is
to out do the others.

Wow that was awesome. Please let not your clapping stop… a true
sportsman only needs cheering from the audience to keep him
performing to the best of his ability.

We do have a clear winner there and the results shall be declared

soon.

MAHIKA : Next we have ____________ neatly lined up on the track

ready to run a _____ metres race. And there goes the clapper
indicating that the race has begun and that the kids need to run as
fast as bullets from a gun and reach the finish line.

There they have reached their destination…Amazing, wasn’t it?

Please encourage these young kids who have practised so hard to
put up their best performance for us. Well we shall wait for the final
results to reach us before we announce them.

11
VIDHI : Coming up next is a ______ metres race and the athletes are
ready to take on the challenge. Flat races requires agility and physical
strength.

MAHIKA: The race is now on and the kids are running fast towards
the Finish line in order to show their swiftness and come out
victorious.

VIDHI : Wow! That was quick… I bet not many people in the audience
would like to compete with our sporting stars.

MAHIKA: So parents let’s encourage our young boys and girls by

putting our hands together for the athletes of Jamnabai Narsee
School, Gift City.

SKILL BASED TEAM RACES

GAYATRI: It’s amazing to see such competitive spirit among our
athletes. They have been seriously sweating it out and toiling hard to
come out winners. But a sports meet shouldn’t be just be serious,
cut-throat competition. It must also be fun. So we have some skill
based team races which can be a lot of fun and help us tickle
ourselves to laughter. But ladies and gentlemen don’t you forget that
although these races may be hilarious and fun to watch our kids have
worked hard to practice for them and they do have some serious
benefits like

1. -Bonding children together emotionally

2. -Laughter helps everyone cooperate and work as a team
3. they are fantastic for mindfulness and mental health and
4. -fun races are a great form of physical activity

So please do cheer the youngsters with your never-ending applause.

MAHIKA – (Ball Relay – Gr 5): Yes, dear parents your cheering is the
only thing we ask you to shower on our students today, as we now
begin the Fun Races. The track is already set and the athletes of Gr 5
are on their marks for the very first race – Ball Relay. Vidhi, have you
ever seen a ball relay?

12
VIDHI: No I haven’t but it sounds interesting, what is it?

MAHIKA: Well I don’t think speaking about it would be as much fun

as watching it. So let’s see it for ourselves, as the kids balance the
ball in their hands showing exemplary teamwork while toiling hard to
get the first prize

VIDHI: Oh, wow that sounds fun! Plus, it’s a team relay, that’s even
more entertaining. So, the kids will be rolling the ball to each other
and then running the race, right?

MAHIKA: Oh no no, the kids are not allowed to let the ball touch the
grounds, that will be a definite disqualification

VIDHI: That sounds challenging, doesn’t it?

MAHIKA: Indeed, it does, but nothing the Jamnabai Narsee School

Gift City students can’t handle. Take it look at the action on the field
and witness our dextrous heros.

VIDHI: And with that the race comes to an end. What an amazing
piece of entertainment and an example of their skill it was!

BALL RELAY GR 5 BOYS

MAHIKA : And now the field is ready for the boys of Gr5 to showcase
their talent of balancing and passing the ball in the ball relay.

VIDHI : So ladies and Gentlemen plz watch the dexterity with which
the ball is being passed from player to player.

MAHIKA : The players need concentration and coordination to win

this game. Its not as easy as it looks.

VIDHI : Wow! And the game has come to an end. We shall soon be
announcing the winners.
CIRCUIT - GR 6
13
MAHIKA: Meanwhile, next on the cards is the Circuit race. Well let
me tell you a little about it.
The circuit race has obstacle that a runner has to jump over during a
race. The athletes have to run over a precise distance with full
stamina and cross the finish line in the fastest possible time going
over, under and through the various obstacles and hurdles.
VIDHI : Audience, eyes down at the tracks… as the Girls of Gr 6 have
taken their positions and are waiting for the clapper to go.
MAHIKA : And there goes the clapper and the race has begun.
VIDHI : Isn’t it amazing how these young athletes are putting in their
sweat and blood to ensure that their team wins today.
MAHIKA : Yessss! And the race has come to its end. For the results
we shall have to wait till we receive the names of the winners.
VIDHI : Ladies and Gentlemen the track is now set for the boys of Gr
6 to take on the same challenge as the girls just did.
MAHIKA : And I am sure you are all eager to check out if the boys are
also as dextrous as the girls were at taking on the hurdles.
VIDHI : We need not wait any further the Clapper has just signalled
that the race is on.
MAHIKA : Wow these boys are super-fast! Its almost unbelievable.
VIDHI : And with that the race has come to its end and the winners
shall soon be announced.

HUMAN WHEEL (Gr7)

MAHIKA: Next in line we have yet another Skill based Fun Race - The
Human wheel race.

VIDHI: I’ve heard about a lot of wheels but MAHIKA… what’s a

human wheel?

MAHIKA: (laughing) Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! well VIDHI… we’re not causing
any motor accidents here. Don’t worry you’d be absolutely safe
The Human Wheel race involves a team entering a canvas wheel and
travelling a specific distance to reach the finish line. This is one of the
physical games which requires a lot of space and our huge, beautiful
lush green school ground is just the right place for it.

14
VIDHI : Wow I am sure the race is going to be exciting and fun for all
participants.

MAHIKA: Well VIDHI, we don’t need to contemplate that as the race

is just beginning and we can see the excitement in the eyes and the
body language of the participants.

VIDHI : It’s amazing to see the participants trying to coordinate and

synchronize their movements and at the same time hurry towards
the finish line.

MAHIKA : Yessss! and with that the race has come to its end.

VIDHI : Wow that was fun to watch.

MAHIKA : Yes it was and that’s why we now have the boys of Gr7
showcasing their talent at the same race The Human Wheel.

VIDHI : Look the boys are already there and all set to take on the
challenge.

MAHIKA : Wow I particularly like the way they are all moving in a
synchronised manner.

VIDHI : Yes ofcourse the game is all about Synchronisation and

Coordination. And I am enjoying the way they are all trying to win
the race by moving fast.

MAHIKA : Yes, this game is all about synchronization, coordination

and being quick.
VIDHI : And with that the first team has reached the finish line
followed by a few others. Although ______________ house is still
struggling to reach the finish line.

BIG FOOT

15
GAYATRI : Gr8 Well that was nail biting! And now it’s time for the
last in the line of our fun races is the Big Foot race, the athletes are
all set in their positions to take on the challenge.

VIDHI : THE BIG FOOT – O Maam do you mean the Abominable

Snowman – The Yeti? I thought these were Fun Races and that
doesn’t sound like fun to me… its scary!

GAYATRI : – Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Well no VIDHI, this race only mimics the
large sized foot of the Abominable Snowman… he isn’t really coming
to attack us. This race is a real team building event. Teams stand a-
top two over-sized “Big Feet” and attempt to coordinate and
synchronize their actions as a team to make it to the finish. It’s
harder than it looks but comes with tons of laughter for our audience
and loads of fun for the participants.

MAHIKA : On a board with ropes tied, the students are required to

secure their legs in one set of ropes while holding the other pair in
their hands. Both coordination and balance are necessary for this
game. To get to the finish line, they must simultaneously move their
hands and legs.

VIDHI : Hey take a look at the field, the race is just starting… as all
the participants have taken their positions and the teams are
beginning to walk.

MAHIKA : This game definitely requires coordination and

understanding between the members of the team.

VIDHI : I am sure that the participants must be enjoying their racing

competition which is soon coming to an end.

MAHIKA : I can see that the first house has almost reached the finish
line and the rest of the houses are not too far behind. Parents you
shall have to wait a while for the results which shall be announced as
soon as we receive them.

16
VIDHI : While the results of the Girls event is getting prepared lets
watch the boys take on the challenge.

MAHIKA : Yes and the track is all set for the boys to take on the
challenge.

VIDHI : Lets see if the boys are as good at this as the girls were.

MAHIKA : See it for yourself as the race is just beginning.

VIDHI : Wow look at that the boys have begun well and well begun is
half done.

MAHIKA : Yes isn’t it amazing that the boys have taken up the
challenge well and are doing justice to the competition and…

with that the first team seems to have reached the end with
maximum ease. Let’s give a loud round of applause for all the
participants and please bear with us till we receive the names of the
participants of the winning team.

RELAY RACES
MAHIKA :
And with that we have come to the end of the Flat race event. But
don’t you worry the best is yet to come because coming up next we
have a few relay races.
VIDHI : A relay race? Well what’s that?
MAHIKA : In a relay race, members of a team take turns completing
parts of a circuit on the racecourse. Each segment of the relay or the
distance run by one person is referred to as a ‘leg’. The runner
finishing one leg is required to pass the baton to next runner while
both are running in a marked exchange zone.
VIDHI : Wow that sounds interesting. And I can already see the
teams of various houses ready for taking on the relay challenge.
MAHIKA : Yes, that’s true. I can hear the buzz coming from the racing
track, it seems like all the teams are strategizing their win.

17
GAYATRI : A relay race is nothing but Team work at its very best. The
House spirit is very evidently displayed by the teachers as well as the
children of each house as they cheer their relay teams.

Taking a look at the field we can see the circuit is set and there goes
the clapper indicating the beginning of the race.

MAHIKA : Running in the outermost track is ________ house with its

superb athletes in their striking ________________ T-Shirts. The first
athlete to run with the baton is ____________, he/she is followed by
__________, ____________ and ___________.

VIDHI : Running in the second track is __________ house with its

amazing athletes, recognizable in their flashy ___________ T Shirts.
The athletes in this house in the order of their position are
___________, ___________, ___________ and __________.

MAHIKA : The third track is occupied by _________ house with its

astounding athletes in their conspicuous ____________ T Shirts.
The racing order of the athletes of __________ house is ________,
___________, ___________ and ___________.

VIDHI : The fourth track is that of ___________ house with its

outstanding athletes in their remarkable ______________ T Shirts.
__________,___________,____________, and ____________ are
the racers of this house.

MAHIKA : The fifth track is that of ____________ house with its fine
members ____________, ____________, ___________ and
__________ racing in their _________ T-Shirts.

VIDHI : And the innermost track is taken by ___________ house

represented by its meritorious athletes racing in their
______________ T-shirts. _____________, ____________,
___________ and __________ of This house are gracing the field.

18
GAYATRI : Wow… the nail biting relay has finally come to its end.
What a fine example of amazing team work it was. A sure treat for
the eyes of the audience witnessing the event today!

MAHIKA : Although as per the very format of a sports competition

we can’t have more than one winner but to us at JNS all our athletes
are Winners and Achievers.

TUG OF WAR
GAYATRI : Wow! That surely was a lot of fun. But wait…the fun isn’t
yet over. It has been an emotion packed day for participants and
viewers alike until now and our sports persons have been battling
like warriors on the field and enjoying themselves all the while.
Coming up next is ‘Tug of war’ typically Tug of War is a sport which
tests the strength and limit of endurance of the 2 teams pitted
against each other.
MAHIKA : I really like the way you compared the sports field to a
battle field because we may be friends on normal days but today we
are warriors fighting for accolades for our houses.
GAYATRI : Yes, it’s evident that the students are very excited and
charged-up, as if it’s a real battle... I guess that’s why the sport is
called Tug-Of-War… and naturally…not just the students even the
teachers are very high on the energy-meter.
MAHIKA : That’s absolutely true. Let’s take a look at the Students
and the teachers as they take their positions on the battlefield…
(laughing… Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!) I mean the sports field... which by the
way is very much like a battle field today.
GAYATRI : That’s true.
Well finally the contestants are all set for the Finals of TUG OF WAR,
the houses have had their preliminary rounds earlier at school. And
today we have __________ house and ______________ house taking
up the TUG OF WAR challenge.
Tug Of War is an athletic contest between two teams chained up at
the opposite ends of a rope. The game may look simple, but the
participants in tug of war are strategically placed. Each team drags
the other across a central line drawn on the ground, in an endeavour
to pull the chain of participants of the opponent team across it and

19
towards their own side. Tug of War is a real tussle; a severe contest
for declaring supremacy.
MAHIKA : The day seems to be in favour of the __________ team as
they are managing to pull the rope faster and harder.
GAYATRI : But see now… the _________ team has managed to make
good the loss and with a jerk they have been able to pull the rope
towards themselves.
MAHIKA : It is interesting to see how the Students & Teachers are
working in sync to contribute towards the winning of their teams.
But teams, please watch your step as you are engrossed in pulling
the rope… one day’s fun must not turn into lasting pain.

GAYATRI : Yes Mahika… the work of the students and teachers is

commendable for sure but I’m particularly enjoying the way the non-
participant teachers and the rest of the student body is also fighting
the war from outside the arena… it seems the whole school is
involved.
and Wow… with that last jerk the tug of war is finally over. The
participants and the winning team shall soon be announced.

GAYATRI : Wow! That surely was a lot of fun. But wait…the fun
isn’t yet over. Coming up next is ‘Tug of war’ typically Tug of War is
a sport which tests the strength and limit of endurance of the 2 teams
pitted against each other. In this case the two teams are those of great
importance in the lives of the students. One team stands for their
home front, this is represented by the parents and the other team
which is equally important to the students, is the school team
represented by the teachers.

I request the parents and teachers interested in taking on the

challenge to step on to the field and take their positions.

(While the parents and teachers take position)

Members of both the teams are the most important people in the life
of a child and they share the quintessentially typical love-hate
relationship. Sometimes they can’t stand each other but at other times
they need to work together, for these two… the teacher and the
parent, can’t stay without each other either. Although their coming
20
together works wonderfully for the kids; today we are in the mood for
some fun. So ladies and gentlemen lets witness the tug of war between
the teachers and the parents, as they are all ready to take on each
other.

The day seems to be in favour of the __________ team as they are

managing to pull the rope faster and harder.

But see now… the _________ team has managed to make good the
loss and with a jerk they have been able to pull the rope towards
themselves.

Teams, please watch your step as you are engrossed in pulling the
rope… one day’s fun must not turn into lasting pain.

Wow… with that last jerk the tug of war is finally over in the favour
of the __________ team.

PARENTS RACE
MAHIKA : At Jamnabai Narsee School, Gift City, we believe that our
parents are our primary stakeholders and collaborators. They are a
cherished part of the JNS family. On a day as special as today, how
can they be left behind?
When the children have been so enthusiastic and energetic
throughout the day, then how can we not give their parents a chance
to have as much fun as their children did?
So, I request the parents to please come forward and take part in the
fun races that we have organized specially and exclusively for them.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE TROPHIES

GAYATRI : Today, we feel extremely privileged and honoured to

our brilliant students who have made both the school and their

or position holders have been waiting for it.
I would now like to invite ______ to distribute the trophies…

DECLARING THE MEET CLOSED

MAHIKA :
We the students of JNS are blessed to have an academic and
supporting fraternity as we do. Victory is in the quality of
competition and not the final score.

VIDHI : After an action-packed day, we have come to the end of the

day. Congratulations to today’s winners! Whether you have won a
medal or not, you are all winners. Thankyou parents for cheering the
children and for being a great audience.

GAYATRI : Yes, I do agree that our audience today was awesome.

Taking up sports at school pays huge dividends in a student’s
development. Where else can a young impressionable student learn
values like discipline, responsibility, sacrifice and accountability?

True champions are not always the ones who win, but those who
don’t give up. Competition is the spice of sports, but if we make the
whole meal too spicy, we’ll fall sick and that’s why, it’s more

23
important to have participated than won. Although the will to win is
important, but the will to prepare is vital.

Sport serves the society by providing vivid examples of excellence.

And Jamnabai Narsee School Gift City is proud of having an excellent
fraternity of teachers who have taken as much pain in setting up
these enclosures and preparing the field as our students have
exhibited in performing today.

All this hard-work, calls for a loud round of cheering for our super-
stars our students, their grit, strong will, determination and energy
were unmatched today.

Dear parents… please remain seated. You shall be informed about

the dispersal of your ward in a short while from now.

At the school, we are trying hard to teach our children social

etiquette, rules, regulations and the systems of doing things the right
way; you will not be setting a good example if you leave your seats
before the children exit from the field. Please vacate your seats only
after THE NATIONAL ANTHEM & once the children have left the field.

SCHOOL ANTHEM & NATIONAL ANTHEM

MAHIKA :
An anthem is a musical composition of celebration, our school
anthem unites all the stakeholders in the school, the students, the
parents, the teachers, and the management. As our sporting event
comes to its culmination today I’d like to request every one present
here to rise up in the honour of our school anthem followed by the
National Anthem.

DISPERSAL
GAYATRI :
Indulging in sports, be it individual, dual or team sports, leads to a
major boost in self-confidence. The ability to go on the field and
perform instils a self-discipline and self-assurance, which goes a long
way in building a person’s character. Not only victory but also the
ability to accept defeat on the field and yet believe in your own
24
capabilities brings a sense of integrity & positive attitude, It also gives
our students an exposure to what’s expected and how much more
effort needs to be put in to improve their performance.
With that we come to the end of another delightful and exciting
sports day. Which shall soon be archived in the portals of the school
until, it’s time for a subsequent sports day, another year.
Winding up with this one let me once again Thank you all for
cheering the children and for being a great audience. You are now
requested to collect your ward from the following venues:

FILLERS
● Cheer our kids loud and applause them hard
● Cheer the girls loud and clear as they race towards the finish
line.
● Let us appreciate our athletes with a big round of applause
● That reminds me of a joke… I like long walks, especially when
they are taken by people who annoy me.
● The advantage to exercising every day is that you die healthier.
● EXTRA
● The school sports day is a day when students are freed not only
from their classrooms to jump and run around but also from
the fetters of academic learning. It is a day for mothers and
fathers to cheer on their sons and daughters. Moreover, Sports
Day is a day for celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship. So let’s
begin the Annual Sports Day with lots of enthusiasm, passion,
and vigor.
